Patch on thursday evening People test the patch on friday, which is both a high activity and a work day and allow for normal mode fixes(weekends aren't normal mode )weekend is than without obvious issues and can be tested by the crowd for two days. A hotfix if a big issue is found ASAP , if small than on monday, if none than its great :D Work from monday to thursday on next patch

Launch options and autoexec don't seem to be doing it, and it looks like they've packaged all the resource files into a vpk so I don't think I can hard delete it either. Sigh, after months of trying to get a stable game I manage for a week and then the next patch fucks it up again lol ><

Should I keep randoming awhile longer, or start focusing in one one or two heroes? Also, what is a good rule of thumb for what types of heroes to have on a 5 man team?

A team comp should have a good lategame hero, a good mid, a hero to play on the hard lane and supports to fill up. In pubs anything works that isn't more than 2 carries until people start buying wards from starting gold so don't worry THAT much about it ![]()

Gabe Newell has more than 1,000 hours and still goes random. Apparently IceFrog told him so and he did. Honestly, just keep playing and when you have an idea of what role you wanna play, go head and start picking them. I keep saying that anyone in DotA master a hero (just like LoL community does). You never should focus on one hero. Just keep playing. Your favorite will eventually come in...

With respect to randoming, that is up to you. I like telling people to play all the heroes at least once so that you have some grasp of what is raping you, not just "I DUNNO WAT HE DID BUT I DED" However, learning a hero and playing it fairly often (not every game) isn't a bad idea at all. Less things to worry about while progressing in your knowledge of the game. Regarding team lineups, what is really important is synergy and/or a goal behind a lineup. However, that isn't even remotely relevant to pubs. So, rules of thumb for pubs: 1) 2 ranged heroes minimum, preferably 3 or even 4. Prioritize higher range heroes somewhat. Luna doesn't really count, for example. 2) Stuns. In doubt? Pick a stun. Reliable stuns (shadow shaman, etc) are preferred to unreliable ones (wisp, etc). Lina/Lesh with their long-delay AOE stuns are somewhere in the middle depending on how many ways you have to set them up. Obviously these picks can depend on synergy (got a Chaos Knight? Wisp just became amazing). Bonus points for easy hero counters (slardar vs riki, StormSpirit vs tinker, etc).

Having a pool of 10 heroes between the different roles is pretty good; therefore meaning you could play any role given with good efficiency due to having good skill with those heroes. Once you've figured out what role you really like playing, start playing the heroes that often are used for that role and get better at them. Do you mean 5 man stack with your friends? If so then.. a carry on bot-lane with either one or two lane supports, a good mid hero and a decent off-laner. An example lineup me and my friends use regularly would be Chaos Knight as carry with Shadow Demon and Lesh as lane supports. Invoker mid and either a Tidehunter or Windrunner suicide off-lane. There IS a reason for this lineup, aka SD prisons/amps damage, lesh lines up a stun and invoker sunstrikes on that target = instant 1k burst damage and killing any laning hero in the first 10 minutes easily. Tide or WR depending on enemy lineup and if we need an AOE stun to stop certain lineups like Enig ulti or SK ulti etc. If I misinterpreted your question sorry!

+ Show Spoiler + Also, lmfao at the MGQ reference. For something a tad more 'serious' what do you guys think of AtoD? Best strat is to try and give enemies a hard carry or what? I'm thinking that pub stomping heroes might actually be good in AtoD due to the fact that you'll rarely give enemies heroes with good disables and such, so giving them a hero like huskar might actually be dangerous.
