Centaur doesn't have the anti-intiating usefulness that Tide has pre-blink.

You don't just pick Tide for post-Blink Ravage initiates.

Centaur replaced Lycan in the " No fun allowed " club imho. Now it's AM, TA, DS, Invoker AND Cent. I really hate playing with him on my team or on the enemy team.

I really think at least 5% of Centaur's winrate is due to his strength gain, being hard to kill/having easily understood skills. I wouldn't exactly call him balanced but i'm fine playing AP again. Even though he's at like 62% now I'm pretty sure Drow will be a larger problem in coordinated games. Most drows don't toggle their aura correctly (and sometimes not at all) in pubs.

I'll go ahead and throw myself on my sword: I never toggle my aura when I play Drow. I'm sure there is some detailed point as to why you would (I assume it has to do with your ranged creeps not pushing your lane)...but in pubs at my play level, it almost never matters.

I'll try and start remembering to do it.

Generally keeping it 100% on after like 20 minutes is the bare minimum. Rest is like "press key to push more/splitpush"

The thing is you don't need a blink as Cent to initiate, you just need someone to get in close to the enemy team with ANY hero in your team. Blinkers, force staff or a blink dagger on heroes who aim to get it fast are just as good. Not to mention it is harder to steal by Rubick if you pop it and someone else goes in instead of you. Lower mana cost and cooldown greatly help. It can also be used as sort of a counter-initiation tool, and due to its range the only thing that matters is for Cent to not be disabled. Just one minute cooldown at lvl 16 is also huge, it means its up every time you engage in hero fights and don't have to save it for the big clash.

Not to mention the burst Cent can do is greater, whereas Tide will need to wait for Anchor Smash to cool down to get to similar levels of damage.

Again, you're comparing Tide and Centaur on the basis of something that is 1) Centaur's strongest point, and 2) not the ony reason pick Tide.

Centaur doesn't *replace* Tide in the way you're implying. He's excels in some of the things that Tide can get picked for, but in others, he has no relevant usefulness. They're different heroes that are good at different things.

Yeah I've told like 5-6 drow players that their aura can be toggled to affect creeps. Suddenly the game either goes from close - super far ahead or from being behind to being close.

Yeah, its more "off during laning phase, then as soon as the first concerted push for a tower happens, on for the rest of the game".

Centaur really is not like tide. Tide is highly effective with mana boots, +/- blink. Centaur scales with strength all game long and is hilariously bad with just boots. Or at least, if not hilariously bad then not even remotely close to his real potential.

Their farm priorities make them very distinct. I guess in pubs it matters less. I'm not saying tide is better than centaur (quite the opposite).

@Pseudoku I'm well aware of how to check my skill. Just pointing out that "very high bracket" is NOT the way to do it.

They can both be put in the "big chunk of teamfight control" category, and this is what makes Cent look scary and at the same time make Tide looks less: there might now be another viable contender to the "king of teamfighting" crown (along side Enigma, QoP, Dark Seer, etc, all those scary heroes you don't want to face against in a 5v5 fight). Yes, they all have different playstyles, but all have one thing in common that makes them so damn good: they provide a gamechanging abilities in addition to being strong early on (each in their own way; Cent has a ton of burst and is deadly when someone else can throw the initiating stun/slow in a gank, while being dangerous to target first due to high health (even though DE harms him too, that doesn't stop him from taking a ton of punishment to bring down if focused first, later on Return is quite painful)).

While he might not be in the old lycan category (close to unstoppable farming, pushing and damage machine) , he is one more thing to consider when in the ban/pick phase. It will make the game much more diverse.

As a side note, a early level of Return is hilarious against harass: it does about 22 damage at level 1 with base starting stats, while supports are hitting for 50-ish damage .

Nobody's arguing that Centaur isn't a good teamfighter, or that he's not ban/pick material (though that's pretty much irrelevant because he's not enabled in -cm for either DotA 1 or DotA 2, and he probably won't be until Icefrog is 100% satisfied with where he is balance-wise). But your original post was:

Anyone else thinks Cent can be used as a replacement for good old Tide? Ultimates are similar (Stampede does less dmg, but does not require a blink on cent himself), but Cent has better burst and an extra stun.

They occupy different different roles/positions on a team. So no, he's not a direct replacement.

I beg you all to not interpret this as a BM response, but try to find two examples where one hero compeletely overshadows another one in all of his aspects. (Sorry for the quick and little reply, but game is starting)

Isn't WR and mirana the best example? The only difference is one being agi and the other int the the obvious item differences that brings. WR does all mirana does just better

Night stalker VS bloodseeker.
Night stalker does everything he does better.
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!
