IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

Something different: In my last match a Kunka got 2 buriza. I was telling him that crits don't stack but he told me that they would: Not multiplierwise [having a 5.x something crit], but chance wise - if the first one fails, the second one might trigger. And everyone else on the team then agreed to him. Am I missing something? As far as I know crits don't stack in any way, but since mechanics in Dota2 are very different from what I know from wc3 DotA anyway, I'd really like to know.

Crit fully stack, but when 2 crits happen at the same time only the last accquired crit will do damage.

Just to check if I got this right: So since he had 2x buriza he had a 50% chance to crit for 2.7x dmg?

While he was correct, they have diminishing returns - one buriza gives 25% chance of criting, while the second can only crit if the first does not, so it gives 0.25*0.75*100 = 18.75% extra, for 43.75% total.

No, the crits are completely unaffected by eachother.
Both crit have the a chance of 25%, they don't add up. 25% that the first crit happens and 25% that the second crit happens. This would mean a 43,75% chance that you will crit.

For effects like crit, Dota2 uses the "same" pseudo random generator that wc3 did, so having a pair of them won't actually be 43% either, but something in effect slightly lower.

I think we've had the same discussion in this very thread, but I'm pretty sure that the highest crit will do damage if 2 or more happen.

Well that sucks big time. It really should be integrated into dota 2, because in its current form, you could spend an entire game without a single bash/crit, admittedly with a very very low chance of that happening, but possible.

Well, you could also Backtrack every single attack in the whole game even in Dota1! Seriously though, they really should consider how it affects balance, but it's not such a big deal for most abilities. I think the PRG is probally better, but the one in a billion chance of a ability not proccing the whole game isn't really the most compelling argument.

Ugh, casters that don't know how abilities work. This is really annoying.
You'd think casters would learn how the game works.
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!

and then they should normalize damage. Having a random range of damage makes the game too random and less competitive too! [/sarcasm]

Don't understand why people like Pseudo random distributions so much. If you don't want randomness then you should normalize everything. Luck sprees and dry sprees are part of the game.

I think pseudo random number generation makes a lot of sense actually.

It keeps the number of procs of any given chance based item/ability in line with what in should be with a much smaller sample size.
