I´ve heard of the weirdness that was 5.xx Dota. There was a small compilation posted in a forum somewhere a couple years ago.
Nightstalker was Voidstalker and didn´t need night for full effect. Another Hero that was basically a siegetank, complete with immobile siegemode. Dozens of heroes with ensnare, long stun and/or avatar(Magic immunity) as skills. A hero that had 3 summon skills, so he could solo towers with ~10 summons around lvl 6. Original Invoker didnt have 10 spells. He had 27. The order in which you summoned Wex, Quas and Exort changed the skill you get too. The compilation was very funny.
I only once tried a pre 6.xx map, I think it was 5.83 or so, the last map before Icefrog took over. It had a very basic looking terrain, Chen had none of his skills he has now. Instead he had some generic crap and an orb that adds x% of his max hp in damage. The recipes had no icons. I´m pretty sure the items were very different too.
I played that map once or twice, but it felt unrefined to me.

I still remember my first map was somewhere around 6.30 or so. Mirana and Alchemist were my first new heroes. "Professional games" were played with teampick. TEAMPICK.
Sentinel could only pick Sentinel heroes and Scourge could only pick Scourge heroes. Sentinel was heavily favored because Beastmaster, Chen and Jakiro were much stronger back then(Also there were 2 other heroes that amde the standard Sentinel lineup which I don´t remember).
Chen was nerfed via nerf of jungle creeps. Jakiros double breath was like 110 mana on lvl 4, you could spam it forever.
Beastmaster Ult wasn´t nerfed until much later. Pre nerf the cooldown was 60s on all levels, manacost 150 all levels and range was somewhere around 1000 on all levels. 1000 range was awesome.

So much nostalgia.

....you have no idea of the brokeness that was floating around. people think overpowered now...rofl.

Gogo 5 meka/necros pokemon wars/sentry wards with full sight and duration as regular wards.

Beastmaster Hawk/Sniper scattershot/Brood webs having true sight...

Sniper's assassination cd, Clinkz being unkillable, Pugna, Lich, Axe, Pope Rocketfist, Alchemist's Greed had no limits lololol, Visage's Revenants tanking/attacking Roshan. SPECTRE.

Man, that wasn´t imbalanced.
Sniper Scattershot was only good for nuking towers, Brood webs were good but not gamebreaking. Spectre generated soooooo many whinethreads. I remember those vividly.
They didn´t really change much about Necrobook iirc but it´s not considered imba today. Those rules like max 2 necro, max 1 hex etc. per team was silly.
Sentry wards were imbalanced, that I give. Ward wars consisted of sentry vs, sentry.

The fact that Chens creeps had stacking speed auras(!) was broken as hell. 15% ms from centaur, 15% ms from satyr, 15%ms from taskmaster = 45% ms for the entire team.
Beastmaster and Jakiro able to instakill a creepwave, Chens creeps tanking the tower. Jakiro could spam dual breath all day without any items. It was my second version dualbreath got nerfed.
Beastmaster could Ulti you across an entire screen, every minute. That lasted more versions, but got changed too.
The bad part about this was that you couldn´t ban or pick the broken heroes away from your enemies.

And yes, scourge had better area damage with sand king, tidehunter, qop, leschrac, but it´s hard to use that to any effect if you get totally dominated and pushed by chen with 45% ms aura and being caught with 1000 range beastmaster ulti.
The damage of junglecreeps against towers was drastically nerfed, the creeps themselves were nerfed along with all the auras.
If I remember correctly the imba clinkz era came after that one sentinel lineup was fixed.

During that time was also the BM/brood incredible jungle clearing speed due to stacking 3 camps at once w/ axes, or the no corpses due to spiderlings. Bonus that you cant even counter jungle or gank them as they have hawk/webs. Fun stuff, though, yeah, chen was crazy good. Quickest DR I ever got was a 18 minute DR on chen. That was the expensive claymore DR too.

Why does sing hate Twister so bad?

Twista used to be the captain of Mouz but was kicked because the rest of Mouz thought he was a lower skilled player than the rest of the team iirc. Black replaced him and they've done somewhat better since. Kicking your captain off of your team and calling him low skilled probably resulted in some bad words between the players, especially given wehsing's infamous personality.

Whether Black is a better captain or not is debatable, but he is the better player out of himself and Twista. Black is probably better than Singsing or most of the other members of mouz so it's not really a fair comparison, but that's the one the rest of mouz was probably making mentally. Also I think singsing hated twista's drafting.

^It is not that simple, it also involved the joining of cwm and they really have given enough chances to twista. Black is also never the drafter/captain.

God, i hated Twista so much. That trashcan, no offense but seriously if you have seen that guy played, you wouldn't hesitate to call him that.

I just had a game where 4 people on our team crashed every 5-6 minutes and had to restart steam every time that happened. Anyone else having issues? T_T

never played dota 1, but i have about 900 hours into dota 2.

I must say i am not looking forward to meepo or techies.

Both heroes seem gimicky and not fun to play against in pubs.

you should worry more about people on your team playing those heroes.

meepo is not hard to beat, unless the player is actually good at the hero. same with techies

You could say that about pretty much any hero in the pool, especially a lot of the strong mid heroes like Pudge and Templar Assassin. Every hero has a counter in this game.

I'm not sure about that. Lay pile of bombs and hope somebody runs over them. Laning him is quite challenging I suppose, but as long as he hits 6 he will stomp games easily just because some idiot is going to run over remote mines a thousand times and never figure out how to deal with it.

The hardest part about Meepo is the micro requirement. That might create what I like to call the invoker barrier where people are so scared of the hero that they don't play it.

pudge and templar assassin are easy to play in dota2 compared to their dota1 counterparts, and in dota1 they're far easier to master than meepo and techies.

Since when is being a master of a hero a requirement to play them. My point is that there will be just as many fail pudges and TAs as there will be meepos and techies. Maybe not upon the week of release since a lot of people will want to try them, but it really won't be any different a month after or so.

since you have to use the hero correctly? thats when you actually have to worry about playing those heroes?

he wasnt even talking about the initial release, just playing against them in pubs.

That's not how you play techies properly, that's how a beginner plays him in pubs. You need to place them in strategic locations and perhaps encorporate force staff, also things with stun traps and TPs and so on.

Meepo's main difficulty is everyone but the main meepo being incredibly squishy and them all dying when one dies.

TA in specific is in my opinion very noob-friendly. Easy lasthits(that also give you free harrass), insane range chasing / vision(does better without wards than most), very strong burst and effectively 3 escape mechanisms. It is in my opinion one of the easier heroes for a beginner to use mainly because she's so forgiving(esp with Q). However I'd also say that TA takes a ton of skill to play optimally - I think that her design is good but she's a bit too strong(or maybe others just are a bit weak).
