Mystic Snake is incredible and when cast properly gives her infinite mana to keep casting it, and she of course still is ranged. because any time a character has to sit in a lane for 20 minutes you are handicapped. if she leaves lane, you kill her and she spends a long time not farming.

Well if Medusa = AM then surely BF Medusa is competitively viable then

Sounds like AM, no? Well depends. AM doesn't exactly sit, he jumps.
also if you play AM like burning does he doesn't just sit either.
also, one does not simply "kill" AM if he comes into a fight, in addition the time he spends out of lane to go help a fight is significantly less than medusa, given his ability to move quickly compared to her.

Well... Kind of, though her ult and mana shield both make ganking her incredibly difficult(This was perhaps her main strenght when she was used alot). She also can hold pushes back and in my opinion can participate somewhat in counterpushing, mainly due to Mystic Snake. Her early / early-mid game aren't great(in a way, she hardly loses any lanes) but comparing her to Spectre negatively in that regard just is a bit too much.

You can go drums/phase maxing dagger/desolate and be an early game presence as Spectre :D (Thank you based TheYango for telling me about this its fun going zoom as Spectre)
That said maybe your right, I honestly don't have much experience with Medusa.

Unless they drastically changed mystic snakes, I don´t think she has a good early game at all. Split arrows is still incredible Dps for lategame and nice for farming, but unlike AM I don´t remember Dusa having any early power at all. AM chases fast, does high damage with mana break alone, and has a viable finisher in his ult. Medusa has mystic snake. And can slow the enemy with ult if she somehow comes in front of them(which she probably can´t). So basically she only has mystic snakes and right click damage.

Medusa dies rather quickly without items and she can't splitpush farm as safely as AM/BullshitMorphling/Naga siren. Her ultimate isn't exactly 100% reliable either.(It slows but thats all it does).

Mystic snake is an incredible laning spell. Medusa is one of the few hard carries that requires no babysitting at all. Compared to Anti-mage, Medusa can push and counter-push (mystic snake kills creeps, drains mana from enemy heroes) much better until anti-mage gets his battlefury, and when Medusa skills split-shot (at around lvl 16+), she pushes so quickly. With 600 range and a spammable nuke that can go over 400+ damage I don't think her early game is any worse than AM.

What I meant is that she has next to capabilities for the early game outside of the lane. Teamfights, ganks, she does not help much. People were talking about her being deadweight bound to a lane for farming purposes. AM can participate early, if only to body block and blink. Freeing her babysitter up is not that big an advantage because in (4 protect 1) from certain point onwards your 4 teammates pressure all around the map to give the hardcarry freefarm. So actually no hardcarry needs a babysitter that much anymore.

Consider the commonly picked carry pool at the moment. Morphling, Dragon Knight, Naga, Bear, Anti-mage.
Morphling, Dragon Knight, and Naga have nukes and overall teamfight/gank potential that surpasses Medusa. Waveform, Dragon Breath, and Riptide are more powerful nukes than Snake in a fight. Dragon Knight and Naga have hard disables, and Morphling has an additional nuke. Additionally, all 3 heroes come into their prime with 0-1 damage items (Morphling with BKB/EBlade rush, Dragon Knight with BKB, Naga with nothing, as she doesn't need any items to set up a wombo combo with her common combo heroes).
Bear doesn't have the same inherent damage-dealing potential as the above 3 heroes with no items, but he makes up for it with the sheer strength of his Radiance timing. Played properly, a 16-18 minute Radiance timing turns into 3-4 towers insanely fast.
Anti-mage doesn't have that fighting potential with 1 major item, but he hits 2 major items faster than pretty much any other carry because of his ability to speed-farm jungle with Blink mobility. As fast as Medusa can farm as the game goes on, her low-level farm speed isn't THAT spectacular. Anti-mage shoots for BFury+Manta and hits his prime in the 22-24 minute mark. Medusa in most realistic scenarios will not have Linken+Manta similarly early.
Given the midgame, teamfight-oriented bent of version 6.74, and how Anti-mage is the most late-game oriented of the common carry picks, it can be surmised that carries that have a longer path to development than Anti-mage are awkward to support. You give up too much ground playing the game 4v5 for longer than 25 minutes, as Anti-mage is often already stretching it with 22-24 minutes of farm time.

Wait, Artstyle under M5....again? Wasn't it like 9 months ago that M5 said they hated Artstyle so much they wouldn't even let him into their tournament?
