Hey guys I just started playing Dota 2 and have been reading the guides and stuff, but one thing that confuses me coming from LoL is the tower aggro. Can anyone explain to me how that works? Like sometimes I can be pushing a tower, there's no enemy heroes nearby (so i cant have accidentally hit them), theres plenty of friendly creeps around and i'm auto-attacking the tower, but sometimes the tower suddenly starts attacking me. how does that work?

Basically the tower will attack the CLOSEST thing to it. So quite often if you are soloing a tower as melee you might have to stop attacking the tower so the agro will switch to the range creep rather than you.

Towers will agro onto you if you right click on an enemy hero, dont have to attack (i think i said this right). To remove agro just Attack your own creep (A+click).

There are plenty of guides about tower agro but honestly just play around with them to get used to it.

To be more precise, I think they attack the lowest thing that's also attacking them. Also they will stay locked on the their last target until the target dies or goes out of range, I think. They don't switch aggro immediately when you attack a hero, do they?

Pretty sure they do, They will attack you if you attack the enemy hero. It won't wait for the creep to die. I might be mistaken but that is what I thought happened.

priority is approximately
1. closest unit attacking a hero
2. closest unit attacking the tower <- this is you
3. closest unit
4. catapults

It'll switch target to you immidiately if you give the command to attack an enemy hero. And to remove aggro there still has to be a target for the tower that is closer to it than you, because you attacking a friendly creep (note that you do this for creeps outside of deny range) resets your target priority.

Additionally casting spells on a hero does not effect your target priority (I don't know how this works in LoL so I'm adding that), and then there's orbwalking.

Quick question wrt mid and creep pulling. When should you be pulling for your mid and which mid hero?

Firstly, only radiant can be pulled, by doing some trickery with the easy creep camp trees.

The only time I'd do it is if I desperately want to deny experience from the opposing mid. The problem with doing it in mid is that the distance between the two towers is much smaller than the outer lanes. A single pull will bring the dire creeps straight to your tower, resulting in your next wave pushing hard at their towers anyway. It's very hard to delicately control the creep location here.

Basically, stick to pulling the outer lanes.

IIRC there is a way to pull for dire mid with the hard camp, but i can't remember how.
I might be remembering wrong.

I don't think that's possible. You could do it ages ago in WC3 DotA when the scourge jungle was different, I don't think it's possible now.

Lich can deny 2 creeps each wave with ritual/pulling. Many jungling heroes pull the easy radiant camp to mid (easier to do this if you remove the trees surrounding the camp) to save mana/jungle faster as well as deny more creeps. Getting your mid solo higher level earlier allows them to dominate the lane.

Pushing the lane in mid is not bad it allows you to check for runes as you won't miss as much XP, so it's not really a disadvantage. Pulling in mid lane is primarily to give your mid solo a big advantage over the enemy one.

thanks to everyone who answered my previous questions. i forgot one though. it feels like ~1/3 of my games seem to be decided by how many people disconnect for each team. is this normal? i played a little bit of HoN before and it penalized you for leaving a game early. does that exist for dota2? and is there no option to concede the game early or do you have to just sit there and wait for them to kill everything? i've had a few games where my team gets crushed and has no chance but the other team doesn't kill us on purpose so that they can keep leveling up/padding their stats.

1. May be normal in low pool games, but otherwise no, not really.
2. If you drop games you will be placed in "leaver pool" and play with other leavers(?) and you will have a harder time finding games.
3. No, you can't concede in dota 2.

It low MMR, leavers is unfortunately quite common. Leaving early IS punished, but people in low MMR don't know/don't care. You're basically punished by getting abandonment, and if you get enough, you are put in low prio queue which means it takes ages to find games and you only play with idiots.

And no, you can not concede in Dota 2. However, if someone leaves the game and gets abandonment, the game becomes safe to leave, which means you can simply leave the game and you won't be punished for it.

To prevent that, take the habit of moving in between each attack. If you're melee, attack, cancel the end of the animation, attack again, etc. That way you're sure the tower will not change target in between each one of its attacks, and notice when the tower is about to last hit a creep, and be extra careful to back just a little in between your attacks until the tower acquired a new target (another creep and not you)

I don't think that is possible normally. It might be possible in the scenario of baiting out a level 6 satyr nuke using 3 heroes. Never tried it though.

Radiant hard camp can be pulled to mid without any special tricks though.
