LoL has two seperate ladders, one for ranked and one for public, to cater to people who may or may not want a visible ranking. So that right there already is a filter, people who don't care/don't want a ranking wont be on the same ladder as ones that do.

That being said, Elo was designed for a single player game, putting it into a team game tends to have some nuances for small groups of people, but if your game is very popular "small groups" could still be a large number of players

IMO nothing good comes out of having visible rating.

The people who are good know how good they are. And those who aren't--well it's better when they don't have a number by which to flail their e-penises around.

The people who know they are good might not be able to convince others of it though~

who cares? why do you need to prove how good you are to people? if you are pro, you will be known, if you aren't you aren't worth talking about.

EDIT: to add on the ONLY ELO system in LoL that works well and ranks things will is the ranked 5's ELO system, but for some reason LoL players think ranked 5's are a joke, and solo queue (pubbing) is far more valuable measure of skill.

I disagree. I don't get "those who aren't good" don't have a number to flail. If they aren't good they'd have a number to show them how bad they are. Personally, I hate it when I give up roles I want to play to players who are utterly bad and think they're way better than they are. I also like playing support for actual good players.

Then there's the issue of playing with players you have no clue what their actual level may be. Friends you met, inhousing, balancing teams, etc.

If you're good, you'll be playing at a level where people either know you, or are good enough to judge you based on your play.

At any level lower than that, it's just like I said--bad players who think they're good flailing their e-penises around.

Even now you can check how good you are relatively, by looking at what page your game is on the watch tab. If you're in the first few, nice, you're playing with quite good people. If not, well, keep practicing. Maybe Valve should highlight or otherwise display the page you/your friends are on to make it easier to find though.

This is stupid. If you think there isn't a difference between a 1200 player and an 1800 player you are out of your mind and most likely blame your team for everything. And ranked 5s IS a joke.

"If you are good you will be known". True, if you are pro or near pro you will be known. So then does that mean everyone else is at the same level? No. There are many tiers of skill levels, and below the top every is ambiguous to one another. Not only that but steam name changes occur all the time. No one knows who is who ever.

if you aren't near pro or pro you have to improve. period. no exceptions you shouldn't have to think "i'm better than this pub player" because you aren't good yet. period. improve instead of focusing on who you are better than.

I don't play LoL so sorry if this sounds like a silly question -- why is ranked 5's considered a joke? Not enough people play it or something? I'd figure it would mean a hell of a lot more than solo mmr.

Just to mention, even in a team setting the increased variables should only result in increased variance in your Elo rating, which should be dynamic anyway. In the long run, you'd expect (given no change in skill level both in yourself and the general population) your Elo to float in a particular range anyways. Just think of the function of ranked games upon your Elo as a Markov Chain whose intensities are stronger the closer you are to your "true" Elo.
It's like, "Is the Federation's Mobile Suit some kind of monster?"

no one chooses to play ranked 5's. LoL teams have practiced using only solo queue for so long it's all that people care about.

oh btw does the silly spiritbreaker greater bash half permastunning still work?
i know in dota1 the bash proc wasn't on hit but rather prehit so you could mash 's' to cancel the attack animation and just proc g.bash repeatedly, did they change it?

Generally the most important things are: Getting into teams(Or being accepted as a tryout in the first place) and getting viewers for your stream.

Also that's a terrible attitude, every pro was an up-and-comer once. Some got recognized, picked up, and improved. However, I'm certain that many more were just forgotten due to the circumstances.
