I think they're introducing this to: 1. give Effort a chance to compete in OSL 2. buy time to get a sponsor for OSL 3. have their own version of MBC's Elite Schools League.

If they are resurrecting this format, it seems like the amateur prelims only give them the chance to play in a pro-am prelim. From the information given and a little speculation, those 12 final amateurs that get to play in the pro-am prelims will likely be joined with the 24 players from the previous ro36 that didn't get into the ro16 or 24 players who go through offline prelims for pros. That will make up the ro36, and then it'll follow the previous format. The only thing is that they will need the 4 players that were 5-8th from the previous OSL (Hyuk, Mind, Kal, Hiya who were eliminated in the quarterfinals) to play a set to determine the 5th and 6th place seeds for the ro24 group selections. This means that we could see anywhere from 0-12 amateurs in the ODT, let alone the OSL proper. It's actually possible that none of them would make it past the ro36 to get into the actual ODT. This makes it basically the same as before, except that instead of all pros trying out in the prelims, it'll be a mix of pros and amateurs.

In the past, the ODT had a ro36 qualifier with 18 people from qualifiers and 18 from the previous ro24 (top 6 seeds are exempt). These players were cut to 18 by dual-elimination MSL format, top 2 advancing and top 2 eliminated. These 18 were selected into groups by the 6 seeds from previous OSL and that forms the ro24. The ro24 is cut to ro16 by taking the top 2 players from each spot for 12 spots, and then the 3rd place from each of the 6 groups are split into 2 groups of 3 and play for the 4 remaining spots, making the ro16 for the OSL proper. A very complicated format indeed. Edit: Or could the "pro-am prelims" refer to the offline prelims that they held at Yongsan for pros? So instead, 12 amateurs together with all the pros will compete the offline prelims for spots in the ODT? I hope OGN provides more details on the actual format soon.
