I hope a thread about this don't already exist (didn't find one with search on the forums).
I've just read an article on a french video game's news website about a chinese amusement park with starcraft and world of warcraft for theme.
The park is suposed to open in march 2011 and will be called Joyland. It would be pretty awesome to run into a roach between two rollercoaster don't you think ?
If they get the different style rollercoaster where it looks like its hanging on the track. It could be like riding mutalisks. LOL That would be soo intense
March 2011, the amusement park 'world joyland' (short: 'Joyland'), will open its gates in Wunjin district, China.
The theme park will be divided in parts which will sound familiar to gamer ears: 'Island of Mystery', 'Terrain of Warcraft', 'Universe of Starcraft', 'World of Legend' and 'Molesworld'.
By the way, two entire parts will be dedicated to the warcraft and starcraft universes!
'World Joyland' also proposes to build a museum of videogames as well as a center dedicated to e-sports. Of course, all that wouldn't suffice for an amusement park, if it weren't equally well equipped wit attractions like a double free-fall tower, three kinds of rollercoaster and a simulator...
While awaiting Nintendo's announcement of its own amusement park (with a total of eight 'F-zero's', 'Metroid laser tag', 'Starfox simulator'... on can always dream...). Have a look at the concept drawings for the different Joyland parts, all accompanied by wonderful musical themes on their magnificent website.

I just hope they don't simulate muta-stacking or that could go horribly wrong.

Haha yea, or then they could have a blimp fly around the park like a carrier, lmao.
go kart racing ring => Hellions The laser gun tag thingy => Marines Baneling bust bumper cares (as mentioned before) Ride of the Phoenix Micro Roller coaster Tech Lab vending machines etc etc
If anyone's interested, here's the article's translation :
In march 2011, amusement park World Joyland(Or simply Joyland) will open his doors in Wujin district, in China.
This themes park will be divided in several block, which some of them should ring a bell for gamers : Island of Mystery, Terrain of Warcraft, Universe of StarCraft, World of Legend and Molesworld.
Yes, you heard well ! Two entire zones entirely dedicated to Warcraft and StarCraft universes !
World Joyland should also offer a Video Games Museum, and a dedicated eSport center. Obviously, all of that wouldn't be enough to be called an amusement park if it wasn't also equipped with a double free-falling tower, three types of rollercoasters and a simulator...
While waiting Nintendo's announcement of their own them park(with an F-Zero big-8, Metroid Laser tag, StarFox simulator... we can always dream, can't we?), amaze yourself before these concept arts of Joyland's zones, while enjoying amazing musical themes of its overpowered web page.
Eh oui !
Edit: Boo, another translation has been posted before mine while I was translating... Anyway, enjoy!

At one point in the ride you would come to a dead end, and the dragoon would inform you that he's going to try to find another route.... You retrace your steps, and an hour later the dragoon would inform you, "We're pretty sure there isn't another way, sorry."
I'd pay airfare and admission to witness a lifesize Siege Tank that has timed transformations from mobile to siege mode. It would be even cooler if they painted its siege mode range ring on the pavement, to let passerbys know that if they were a zergling they would be dead right now.
it's so hard to believe that this is real because the retarded kid inside us who wants to get inside a siege tank and go choo-choo while it's morphing feels bad that they'll probably never go there if it's for real
Yeah, I would love to know whether or not Blizzard has anything to do with this. The WoW land doesn't really look anything EXACTLY like WoW (except for those Orc bridges) and the "Island of Mystery" looks exactly like the Blood Elf towers...
As far as the Starcraft land, I didn't see anything that looked exactly like, well, anything...
I do wonder if Blizzard has anything to do with this, hmmmm!

I felt the company like Blizzard will care more about company image. They won't allow theme park under their game if they didn't supervise or quality control.
I know there is a huge scene of wc3 and starcraft in China, but i doubt this park will meet Blizzard quality stander.

hahahahahahaha this is one of the funniest things I've read on the forums. Good laughs.
they're going to have to change everything about it if they want to keep it up. I've heard too many stories of china getting sued and having to change their design ie. megasize gundam, disneyland, and now this.
If this is for real, which I highly doubt, then that's fucking awesome. However, it just really doesn't seem realistic. I'm sure it will make more than enough money to sustain itself, but it just seems too good to be true. Copyright issues are sure to not be a problem whatsoever, I really doubt that if they have already started construction they didn't contact Blizzard and ask if it was OK.

Again though, I doubt it's real.
According to all the pictures of construction that people have been linking in this thread, it is real, whether you like it or not.
Heck, as I browse through the concept art, I'm like "you've got to be kidding me. This looks way too over the top to be realistically built."
Then I look at the pics of the site being constructed, and then I'm pretty much like "DAMN. These Chinese can do anything."
This is so ridiculous yet so awesome. Even if the park completely flops financially, we'll still have a friggin Blizzard theme park.
i dont see any major iconic statues or designs so I dont think they need to contact blizzard. If they did have some imitation in their design, then its probably illegal since China never cared about copyright before.
Personally, I don't like the fact that people are claiming it to have to do anything with Starcraft/Warcraft. This shouldn't even be a highlight topic. Blizzard is no doubt going to look into it but looking at the concepts, its not really close.
I hope they have a ride called the BNet 2.0 Ladder, where you get all the way to the top as a one-basing Protoss, and then experience the thrill of plummeting down at breakneck speeds after a race switch to Zerg.

Lol. I'm at a loss for words... It seems unreal... If this thing actually isn't just a big fraud/flop, and the final product looks half as good as the concept art, then it would be friggin' amazing. EDIT: I suck at spelling

It's nothing like the Harry Potter theme park.

And I can't really see whats so starcraft about it. Theres a few random mineral patches, and a building that has a protoss feel to it..and thats it. I might be missing something here, but it doesn't look all that exciting.
That said, I am definitely visiting this place someday :D
I wouldn't want to go on any of the WoW rides the server might just go down during the middle of the ride
But it seems cool I'd probably go check this out. It would be nice if they had some statues from the game like the Mengsk one or something. I just see the random mineral patch here and there.
i would suggest not to get excited -China is known for doing stuped amusement parks and funky unfinished infrastructures just to attract more tourism because of its shitty economy.. also i dont trust the quality of this amusement park.

From this source: Currently, the project has entered a sprint stage, we have to boost confidence, the upper and lower linkage, co-ordinate arrangements for co-ordination to tackle tough, go all out to ensure timely completion of the task of building quality and quantity, to ensure that the park opened in May as scheduled.
I mean, we all know SC2 is awesome and I guess WoW is pretty popular, but is it really mainstream enough to open a multi-billion dollar amusement park for? Confused

No one cares what the theme is, bright lights and roller coasters is sufficient for most consumers. Its like in roman times, when the games would be sponsored to honor some senator's grand father who won a battle in Gaul or something. No one gives a shit, they're there for blood!

I can see why people get so mad about political correctness in America.

Well, this is a international community or not? A little respect would seem fair? I wont call you a racist, but your comment is a bit narrow sighted. First of all where's the similarity between roller-coasters and general goods? Second of all, while China in your eyes may produce many faulty goods, did you compare it to the number of goods they produce that works? It's unfair to call out China as a second class manufacturer. The "Three Gorges Dam" and the "Taipei Tower" are examples of excellent chineese craftsmanship.
On February 08 2011 11:37 KevinIX wrote: It is true though. Chinese safety regulations are rather lax.
Actually they are more or less the same as any other country. However, I won't deny that a fair amount of them do slip by the safety inspections simply because they produce so many goods. In many instances, it just comes down to greed getting in the way a la American tire makers Dodge, Firestone tires incident.
Has Blizzard not made any posts on forums about the theme park? With two fo their games having a park made out of them I would assume SOMEONE would mention something on the bnet forums
isn't there some sort of copyright issue here? what with it being china i'm skeptical about that, since they copied JPN's gundam and then had to add a bunch of ugly to it to make it "original" again.
Yeah, I think it's safe to assume that this will be a ripoff - Meaning that they will not get permission to directly material from the Blizzard universes.. Its hard to believe that Blizzard wouldn't have commented on it if that was indeed the case.
Lawsuits, lawsuits and lawsuits.. And of course, a long fight for Blizzard against a China that is supporting and protecting people making copies of other peoples stuff

You are so ignorant. Most likely, at least half the electronics in your house are made in China, unless you haven't bought anything new since the last millenium. China is the largest producer of modern appliances, and they have to meet the safety standards set by NA/Europe/etc. It's pretty obvious that when something breaks that it's likely to be made in China considering most appliances these days are made in China, whether they break or not.
TBH, I would be 10 times more concerned with using something made in Australia or USA, having been made with inferior machinery, subsidised like crazy and possibly dodging certain QA requirements that an imported good could never hope to dodge.
Please stop talking about it being made in China... its a frigging theme park being built on the basis of one of either genres that you love. If anyone has been to legoland UK when it first came out that was one of the best experiences of my childhood.
Either way if you want to hate on Chinese engineering then no ones making you go ride on any of the stuff. Just remember to throw out your TVs, toasters, microwave, irons, shoes, t-shirts etcetc ...........

I have heard of a lot of cool sounding Chinese amusement parks being shut down because of safety/unsuccessfulness. Hopefully, this one manages to be good and avoid any lawsuits.
Joyland, huh? That's an interesting name, to say the least. Regardless, looks pretty damn awesome judging from the concept art, but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be awesome. Still, I'm looking forward to some pictures when it completes.

Excited, but not too hopeful I've been to a couple of amusement parks in China, and none of them are too special. Maybe if they come up with some innovative stuff then it might work. Anyways, isn't Blizzard suing them? Maybe they can have Official Blizzard Stores which will definitely boost sells :p
Just visited the site in Chinese. The place has nothing to do with Starcraft other than the "name" being used... same with the use of "warcraft"... nothing to do with Blizzard.

Dude, when I went to Shanghai, i hardly ever saw any western products, just chineese copies of western products.. Ever seen a chineese copy of a Mercedes? Well, they're all over the place... A chineese copy of BMW's.. It's everything, they just don't give a shit about who invented it, if they like it or they think people will like it, they just make stuff that looks and sounds like it.
Can you possibly imagine this going on without the blessing of the chineese goverment?
from my point of view it is a nice idea. Looking at the construction photos from the rollercoaster forums someone posted here made me smile. Seems like an really nice park. Lot of nice decoration going on there. I dont understand the chinese hate here in this thread.
If you missed the link to the thread with the constructions photos..look here: German Rollercoaster Forum
You know what would be awesome? The cabins where you get your tickets should be mineral nodes. And if you want VIP tickets you go to the gold mineral node!
Haha i wanna gooooooo, this looks like theres gunna be some hard work put into it. I srsly cant believe theres actually gunna be an SC themepark but its awesome
Totally an April Fool or some other kind of joke. Interesting how easily people can believe pictures that are obviously Photoshopped, the ones who are real just show rollercoasters which can be of any park. Sorry if I am a bit 'suspicious' for your taste but I have seen so many scams that were supposedly jokes...

Or, as China exists as a place where IP laws are... ignored is perhaps the best word, it's possible that this company is just ripping off the theme and idea of Starcraft/Warcraft.
Yeah i belive that blizzard will sue the balls off of joyland until they just decided to shut down productions all-together, dont see this becoming a Reality IMO
Pretty neat to have a amusement park based off of a series of blizzard games, I bet blizzard dumped a few dollars into this :p
With Chinas population and the growth of eSports in China, I am sure they will make decent $$ even if you aren't a gamer as long as the rides are half decent
It's a trap guys. Ackbar tells us it is so. It's there to trap children into forced labor making Nike shoes, no joke. If you go, you'll be making shoes for all your life at 13cents a month.
God, can't believe China is following Japan's lead of building a ton of stupid amusement parks during an economic boom and then not being able to sustain them once their economy slows down or deflates. Doesn't anyone read history anymore?
This is legit, I saw it in production back in 2008 when I went through Shanghai to the great wall. At first I thought it was going to be the new Harry Potter amusement park, but I guess it's a starcraft park!

I'd rather lose my family and get trapped in the world of warcraft and starcraft than to be stuck at a shadow realm-esqe bathhouse for spirits.

from what ive seen looking at the official site, its not just starcraft and warcraft, granted yes there are two big areas with those 2 but there are other locations on that map i cant read.
theres one apparently called world of legend in that park, no idea what that is. also a zone called moles world that looks like a kid park. and a island of mystery. I dont think those three zones have anything to do with WoW at all. I know they definitely have nothing to do with starcraft for sure =P there seems to be a few more zones but they dont appear to be on the site yet, but they are on the map. the zones i listed above are chinese mmos.
though one thing that bugs me, is looking at the starcraft realm concept art on the site... i see protoss structures, terran structures and no sign of the zerg =/
looks like an overall cool gaming park. wish someone would open something like this stateside though.
If anyone is actually planning to visiting this thing, go after a month cuz it'll be deserted but won't be shut down yet.
I really wanna know how many visitors per day/month or w/e this park will need to be profitable so i can giggle myself to sleep.
Im basing this off the super mall in china that is nearly deserted, and while that is still open i think this project will get shut down because the overhead will be sooo high, whereas with the super mall the overhead is lower.
Not gonna lie, that roller coaster is pretty lame by American and European standards. So unless this place is legit Starcraft/Warcraft, I really don't see the appeal.
I love all the people who state this will not happen because Blizz will "sue the balls off" the company before completion.... Do you really think the courts in China will do anything whatsoever about a lawsuit like that? Before you respond, consider also the question of what the hell is a US court going to do about illegalities in China.
Think, then do some light reading... then think some more.
For the record, this project will complete and then fail to break even because they failed to study its target market. Why would you want to pay to see terrible imitations of game design... I mean, there's conventions for that crap already.

I kinda feel like this as well...

It will only be successful if there eventually opens up an expansion that takes us down to the depths of Hell Led, of course, by Deckard Cain!
This seems like a really cool concept, though I don't know if it will appeal to enough people. I can't imagine anyone besides hardcore Blizzard fans wanting to go here, since I'm sure other parks will have better reputations
I am about to head out to Shanghai and remembered this thread and was wondering if anyone from TL ever took the time to head out here and see what the park is like.
