eSports are becoming more and more like other sports. NHL? NHLPA! Now we have a Player's Association for eSports! Forgive me if this isn't the first time this has happened but to me this is new.
Hmm.. I support his first act. This is pretty cool though, nice to see theres a Player's Union.
Awesome thing they're doing for Violet.

It makes sense though if you think about it, Players don't have direct representation to major companies like GOM etc so an association would probably be in their best interest seeing as E-Sports is becoming more of a business like model
On another note i believe KESPA was the BW association(could be wrong)
OT: It's nice that they care about Violet, I wonder why only IM has to donate oO

KESPA are the sponsors.. they're basically the opposite to a players' union.

Because Junwi is on IM, I guess

Kespa represents sponsors or "management." This is needed very much although i hope Junwi and company get some good union law representation. As someone who works in a very strong union with the president as my captain, there's a whole world of things to learn there. That said, as long as the relationship between the players association and the governing body representing the teams, this can only be a plus for progaming in general.
I can't wait for legions of BW pros who aren't at the top tier, as well as promising B-teamers to switch over now, since i believe in BW, the lion's share of all the best treatment and money go to the top 5-10 guys. If they can get decent contracts, why wouldn't you make the career move?

maybe nestea was apart of the reason? he was on ky after all and Im has a lot of ex-be players who maybe close with violet

good point. Coach Zergbong FTW

not familiar with player associations but a leader thats actually a player? hopefully it wont go corrupt like kespa where the sponsers are the leaders... can u even call that a players association... heh
out of all the candidates I would've picked Junwi honestly and glad he got chosen...his first act definitely shows why he deserves his position

eh? the leader of a player association has to be a player no? Otherwise how would he be able to represents the players and be fully aware of their needs. It's like how Derek Fisher is the leader of the NBA player union ( not sure if still is but not important)

I thought that the players associations (e.g. NHL) have players in executive positions. The top guy could be someone who can negotiate well, so it might not be a player. I believe the NHL recently got Donald Fehr to be their leader and he didn't play hockey to the best of my knowledge.

Awesome news. I love Junwi.
<3 junwi and his first decree as King of the nerds SC2 players.
Junwi has been around forever. Good to see him picked for this.
A blood drive for KT Rolster's Violet! I guess I have no choice but to cheer on IM in the team leagues now.
Awesome.
So glad that they seem more mature than kespa doing this.
Junwi is a great guy glad he is representing well
wow congrats to junwi and the blood drive is a great idea!
Junwi is taking an awesome first step as the new president. Nothing is better than helping a fellow progamer in need, even if he is still in the BW scene. Nice to see that despite all the SC2 vs BW BS being thrown around, the progamers still treat each other like comrades.
Since KT Rolster is also having its players donate blood for Violet, he should soon be infused with the blood of the best of BW and SC2, which bodes well for his return to progaming after he recovers.

[Cyber] athletes* haha
Also yeah I am a bit confused/worried they pick a player as the president? But may be it is because my view of what the role is like is wrong; to me I thought they would need some experienced person in business/social affairs and whatnot for this kind of work? Thought it was more like a... well, what our congressman do in government. If you know what I mean. xD

well SHIT
they're all donating blood for Violet? Fucking awesome move right at the start.
This is so Legit, and it makes me happy to see them helping with violet
Good thing, eSport solidifying by the looks of it
Violet getting blood infusions from starcraft players sounds like some sort of Frankenstein attempt to create the ultimate gosu.
Congrats to Junwi though, and really, how could anyone not support his first act as president? Things are looking good! Hopefully Violet gets better too!
Even if they don't necessarily respect the game I hope hardcore Broodwar supporters recognize and support this move. Demanding a players association in BW would be a great next step.
Even though I don't follow SC2 I think this is a great idea. Good look to Junwi!
I still remember Junwi when he was about 15 years old.
The first time we met he was crawling around so shy to meet foreigners.
Thank God they didn't vote for Tester. It would suck to see my favorite protoss get occupied with organizational activities.
Its awesome to see eSports going in this direction, hopefully everything goes well in the future :}
Violet fighting!
This is great for advancing eSports and the SC2 scene! It's great to see players supporting other players apart from in practice, healthy and happy progamers get much better results than sad and sick ones, I hope Violet gets better!

A step in the right direction for esports - and a great first initiative by Junwi for the blood drive..
Cannot wait to see what more comes of the players association..
A blood drive? That's a great way to start off, best of luck the association and Violet!
what a great first act to do by Junwi.... already support him
great idea to start that up Hope it goes well so that it continues and grows ^^
oh! and since the president is zerg.. can we vote in zerg biased maps and/or race changes?

Those look to be the leaders of their respective teams.
Pretty cool idea in my opinion. I like Junwi's first action and I hope he continues to make good decisions in the future.

Well, for the NHL they always seem to have non-players as the executive director, but players as the president (Trevor Linden, Mike Gartner, etc). So no, having a player as the president isn't uncommon or surprising, really.

KeSPA 2.0
We'll see this turns out

junwi is on IM, zergbong was violets race coach in BW, zergbong is on IM. i guess its mainly zergbong wanna show some love to his best student (back in the days)
Nice, go Junwi! Although I have to wonder, 2 years is a long time for someone to be President for something as volatile as this industry. I wonder what their contingencies are.
I suppose Junwi probably won because he's been on pretty much every team there is, by now. oGsIMJunwiPrimefOu fighting!
JackyPrime makes the map and now Junwi is the president? Prime just needs more members in the SC2 political cabinets for a coupe!
making sure they keep up on school work? what? i can only understand that if the player is a minor. will be interesting to see how this association works out
Hope Junwi does well as the president and has the support of all the players even though he only got 26 votes. An entire year sounds like kind of a long time for a term, considering how new the game, though the players are solidifying into a core of top players. It is interesting to remember how young some of these guys are and how they may not really know what they are doing outside of Starcraft.
Kespa was the sponsers of the teams the organization was there to protect the teams and their sponsers. they had 0 player representation, this is like the opposite, and it's a great step to prevent a kespa-like entity from controlling everyones fate.

Class act. I like his political style- haha. Why not have the players protected (Players Association) and stuff- its not a bad thing.

hopefully we dont get lockouts now. that was seriously the worst year of my life when there was no hockey, and 6 years later, i still remember exactly where i was when i heard the lockout had ended.
what if fOu sends ChoYa as first player in team league? GOM will tell their bouncers to throw him out of the tournament. what will junwi do then?
This is great
the lack of a real player's union in BW was a huge disadvantage to the players when it came to contract time. Smart of them to set this up early before big companies and big sponsors are able to firmly entrench themselves against the people who make content possible
This is what the sc1 progamers always needed, great news for e-sports. (or at least the progamers lol)
Sounds like a good start. I didn't realize (or never thought about) they didn't already have this!
And the blood drive is a great first initiative!
This is pretty interesting to hear, wish people would translate more articles like this so people can understand how far Esports have come.

The head of KeSPA is formed with the sponsors of the teams. Though every single team at the moment wasn't member of KeSPA back in 2000, well they are right now. They also have the president, who is selected from one of the sponsors. Right now, a SKT related person is the president of the whole group.

I've read this headline like 20 times, but just now i swear to god i read "Jinro voted president" hahaha
Lim Yo Hwan 2012.
BoxeR for prez.
Finally! I'm really happy about this, I've been thinking that the players needed some kind of union for years.
