I think it's insane that Blizzard figures it has any right to control what people do with the game after they bought it. Copyright ensures they get paid for their work if anyone wants to play the game. Why should those rights transfer to video of people playing the game? Adobe does not have any right to images created by Photoshop and I think that's a pretty fair analogy. Guess I'm old fashioned.

Woah .. what an eye opener. This is for the Love of The Game.

Ok, has anyone forgotten the concept of "loss-leader"?

I'm just saying that they may not seem as altruistic as it seems.

The original article also had this table showing the IP fees paid by MBC over the past 3 years as well as the leagues operated over the years, the IP Status associated with them and who had Rights from Blizzard.

Then again, we've known for a while that MBCGame was pretty poor.
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

So is it 10,000,000 won per show or per season?

10 million won is about $9,000 so if its for each season of the MSL/OSL it seems pretty reasonable, however if its for each time it airs that seems like it could get pretty steep. I am assuming its per episode which is what is haltering the negotiations but its not specified in the translation.

A translation would be awesome, because at the moment I don't understand what the fuck that graph means.

Mmmm nice to see MBC's view on the matter. I hope they don't stop broadcasting BW because they aren't making much money off it

Isn't the broadcasting fee 100 million won, instead of 10 million?

I"m glad they're going to carry on with MSL, even if they have to force it like kespa did with proleague.

So the problem in the end is that MBC simply doesn't have the money to pay for what Gretech is asking without going into the reds.

Despite the fact that Gretech is not asking for a lot.

I would like to see OGN's profit numbers.

I would appear that Gretech is asking for more than they said.

Their fee for the live broadcasting of individual league matches on just Friday was reasonable, but their asking price for broadcasting twice a week was far too expensive, making it hard for us to agree with them.

I think they're trying to force Gretech to better terms via PR.
But I certainly hope this ends well. I didn't know MBC isn't doing so well. Maybe they need some additional form of revenue..

It was starting to become evident around the NATE MSL though I'm sure the problems ran deep before that. A lot of the NATE MSL broadcasting seemed kind of rushed in terms of trying to broadcast it in as little airtime as possible (cutting off intros, camera angles, etc). It just felt a little less formal than what we've seen MSLs traditionally is. Compared to OGN, MBCGame seems to be faltering quite a bit though they've seem to have found a new balance for now.
It takes an idiot to do cool things.

Would the forced MSL be that bad as they make it sound?

Does GSL even use the original sound track for a second option?

Photoshop/AutoCad/3DsMax have commercial licenses that allows you to make money off the work that you create with those tools. Technically, without the commercial license, you are not allow to sell your work for profit.

-.- they said the price for 1 day is reasonable but from the sounds of it gretech massively upped the price for a 2nd day (which a starleague really needs) just to reduce the competition for GSL. If you want bullshit PR just read some of gretech's releases, they aren't acting in the interest of e-sports by trying to eliminate competition.
