# Operating system:Windows 2.6.0.6002 (SP 2) # CPU type:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz # CPU Speed (GHz):2.326 # System memory (GB):1.999 # Graphics card model:NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT # Graphics card driver:nvd3dum.dll # Desktop resolution:1680x1050 # Hard disk size (GB):184.048
I should be okay, as in it'll at least work on medium specs.

can someone give me a diagnosis of how well you think my system will run SCII??? and what upgrades I need?
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU 2.7GHZ Memory: 2GB Ram Operation System: Windows Vista 32bit Harddrive:230GB (about 80bg free)
my knowledge of graphics card is very limited... Graphics card: Card name: Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset Display Memory: 782 MB Dedicated Memory: 32 MB Shared Memory: 750 MB Driver Name: igdumdx32.dll,igd10umd32.dll
I think I need a graphics card upgrade, cuz I didn't get this PC for gaming or anything. My budget is under 100$, I'm not a hardcore gamer but I want something good for SCII. I'm gonna wait until the release to get the best deal, cuz these things get better even after a few months.
|
My system specifications:
Operating system:Windows 2.5.1.2600 (SP 3) CPU type:AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200 CPU Speed (GHz):2.019 System memory (GB):1.499 Graphics card model:NVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE Graphics card driver:nv4_disp.dll
Will this run SC2? But more importantly will it run with out lag on like moderate graphics? The stats are from Blizzard's beta-checker thing.
Thanks in advance.

Your graphics card is terrible, onboard cards do NOT run games at all. If you want to spend under $100 to run SC2, i definitely recommend:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121320
The 9600GSO 512MB will run at med/high specs (although no AA) and can also play modern games perfectly fine. You can't get much chepaer than that card - $54.99 or $34.99 after rebate, and for $68 you can get an SLI setup that will be quite powerful.
If you feel like spending closer to the $100 mark, GIGABYTE 9800GT is only 89.99 after rebate.

I recommend a few updates for you, because i believe the 3200+ is single core. Also, your RAM is quite low and the 6200LE is a terrible card that won't run SC2, guaranteed.
First, and i'm assuming your motherboard is socket 2 or socket 2+
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2470587&CatId=2328
AMD Athlon 64 5200+. Dual Core, 2.7ghz, $59.99. This is 65w so it will run on a shitty stock power supply.
Second, and this is another assumption: A RAM upgrade is INCREDIBLY cheap. A computer which is a couple years old will run on DDR2 667 (most likely, or 533) so i recommend this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231119
2gb DDR2 667 RAM, with heat spreader, fully buffered. $31.99 Edit: to clarify this a bit, i don't recommend sticking this in with your other sticks of RAM as mixing RAM manufacturers/speeds is bad. However it won't have any permanent negative effects, so it will be worth a try. Hopefully this stick and the one you have will be the same speed and will work fine together, giving you 3 gigs.
Third. Your graphics card is terrible and if not onboard then i don't know why you bought it. a very cheap upgrade will get you up and running:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121320
once again, i'm in a gay love affair with the 9600gso. Such HUGE price:performance ratio. only $34.99 after rebate.
The total cost of these upgrades is $127.98, and will easily get you running SC2. If you aren't on a budget to upgrade or don't want to, then don't expect to play it.

Forget the 9800 GT and check this out:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127420R
It's open box but its a sick deal, $55 or so for a ATI 4830 (has almost exact performance of 9800 GT, may be like 1-2% better than 9800GT).
edit: Just found this. $99 pre-rebate, $85 post rebate for a 4850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127414

for the price of a 9800gt you're better off with a 4850 and for the price of that athlon 5200+ youre better off with an athlon ii 240
also have to remember the resolution you play at has a huge effect on your settings and respective frame rates with a particular card.
would recommend waiting till sept 22nd whihc is when the 5870 and 5850 are rumored to come out. it might (though unlikely) drop some prices.

The problem here is that we are looking for a socket 2 chip, not a socket 3. (Socket 3 compatibility with Socket 2 is really iffy, and a lot of the time it just won't work at all - i'm pretty sure it won't in some random OEM board.), although i agree with you on the 4850.

@mahnini: Thanks for the recommends. Probably wont make any updates until Blizzard releases the requirements.

What do you guys think -
i7 920 @ 4.0ghz 6 gigs DDR3 @ 1600 1x GTX 280 (slightly OCed) 2x Raptor 75gb in raid 0 and 1x 500gb for storage 700W PSU
sadly only 1680x1050 monitor (I might upgrade that for sc2 tbh).
I bet I can get low settings no problem.

This set up looks like it might be able to run on the lowest settings with a bit of choppiness. I would definitely look to upgrade your processor, ram, and video card. They seem to be pretty lackluster for todays games, especially the demand blizzard ones. Also you may want to buy a larger HD in order to have sufficient room for sc2.

Yeah, us people stuck with crappy systems have to suffer. Here's mine, i'm really hoping i don't have to upgrade because i'm not too good with this computer stuff.

Not upgrading till Sandy Bridge (32nm) comes out, which will be around the same time as SC2. Core i5 isn't worth it right now and i7 is too expensive due to mobo/RAM costs. They'll come down, and I'll be ready.

That's a render farm must be fun watching the 16 cores light up when you do something on the task manager. It probably play sc2 just fine but most games wont scale well past 2 gpu cards and even less games support it. and gpu cards are always more important in games excluding the obvious. The GT120 is nothing but a re branded 9500GT known for being not a gaming gpu but can hold its own.
