What I'm wondering is what you guys think of your teamliquid forum and the strict rules/mods. I've noticed that they r very sstrict and they do not give any leeway wheter its mild flaming or unpopular opinion.

I adamantiumly believe that forums should not be regulated so strictly, because it dissalows normal conversation. How are people supposed to learn whats right when they cant see whats wrong?

I know free speech doesn't apply to a privete site, but isn't that just a lame excuse for them to control what you say? Whats the point of postin on a site where only certain things are allowed to be talked bout, and mods have free rain to do whatever THEY feel. The mods are not an elected governing body, so why should they police the forums? I kno people will stil say "Its a privete site go off if u dun like", but i blieve in CHANGE and this forum is suffering from poor rules.

looking at the closed section of this site: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/index.php?show_part=0 I don't see alot of threads that merit locking.

If the thread is badly made or a repost, just let it die, theres stil a chance that people may want to respond or have a discussion on it. I realize its to reduce the trafic on the page, but come on, I see threds being locked because the mod said OP was not long enough.

Wake up TL. today its ur free speech, tomorro its anyone who thinks differently.

YOu are wrong, if TL was as strict as you say it is, it wouldnt have survived for so long and wouldnt gain the recognition it has, you are a TROLL and this has been discussed tons of times before, besides, many stupid people inhabit the internet, and a great environment, harmony and so on are achieved in a forum that has well established rules and that has COMPETENT ADMINS.

This is why Teamliquid.net has quality over quantity, not like GG.net where you can trully see the phrase "never underestimate the power of human stupidity" come true.

Go complain elsewhere seriously.

resorting to ad hominem attacks only weaken your case.

I like TL's strict moderation, it keeps idiots at bay. Look at the incredible amount of chumps on other forums.

speaking as a libertarian, i am highly offended to be classified in that group.
Of course, while as a libertarian i respect your right to free speech, I also oppose your habit of collectivizing things.

can i have some specific examples of tl's regulation having a negative effect?

if i put in some thought and effort to make a good post, i can discuss whatever i like in any of these forums. the admins aren't thought police, theyre quality police. they make mistakes but that's hardly a reason to alter the spirit of what they do.

your thread was closed because of lack of effort. it's something that's been discussed before, with better posts and with more effort. if you can't take the time to read up on the subject and write out a better post, you shouldn't expect the forum to accept it.

here is what everyone is thinking and what some have gone so far as to post - just look at the SC sites without the level of moderation you see here. that is all the proof one needs to see that the answer isn't allowing all effortless, thoughtless posts.

this isn't really meant for the OP anyway, who seems to be a lost cause. this is just for everyone.

Meh, free speech is a liberty that should be given to retartds. Perhaps it's true that the moderation level on TL is a bit higher than on other forums, but I personally like it this way.

If you don't have something important to say or the subject ins't quite worth discussing, you can blog it, that section isn't as moderated as the rest of the forum.

To quote mensrea:

1. THIS IS OUR HOUSE
You are our guests. We will make all attempts to treat everyone with due respect and to accomodate everyone's wishes as far as reasonably possible. But, this is a private site. We are not a "for profit" enterprise. We are not funded by any governments. This means we run the site the way we see fit. We are not obligated to observe anyone's notions of "free speech" or even "fairness." We try of course, and that's why we're consistently considered one of the best gaming sites on the web, and you are always free to give us suggestions. But, we have our limits. If we don't like you, we simply IP ban you. If we're really pissed off, then we IP ban you AND nuke every single post you've uploaded to the site - ever. It will be as if you had never existed here. This is our house. You've been warned.

I just watched the closed thread section, you've got 3 threads closed just on the last page. It seems to me you're walking on thin ice.

It's basically because extreme world values like the ones you express are things for people to grow out of. Team Liquid is mature like a restaurant where running and shouting isn't allowed; and yet strong opinion as well as rude language is still accepted. If you want to run and shout, go to McDonald's. Denying the holocaust or hating immigrants is immature (some people never grow out of it). Any political system based around an easy way out of the problems life presents us is, as a rule, immature and dangerous...and pointless to talk about.

Besides, I think if you created a blog saying:

'Why can't people be chemically conditioned into behaving properly?'

It probably wouldn't be taken off unless you were actually offensive. You would just be ridiculed by 90% of ppl and then correct/defeated by someone on the first page.
"Oh no, we've drawn Judge Schneider" "Is that bad?" "Well, he's had it in for me ever since I kinda ran over his dog" "You did?" "Yeah...if you replace the word *kinda* with *repeatedly*...and the word *dog* with son"

i actually think the OP is a troll but the point itself is not illegitimate

it's interesting that we like to think we're an open community but we actually aren't. if normal posters say unpopular things or are rude, they tend to get temp banned. there are a couple mods / established membs who are pretty ridiculously bm at times but get away with it. people like being objective until its personal, and to a degree its understandable.

in the end, they have the "it's our house!" rule so it's only fair if they say it is. tl is open to what it is open to, but its pretty insular and even xenophobic about certain topics.

EDIT: lol the its our house rule came up as i was posting. this is the systematic way to deal with dissenters who don't conform quickly enough on this site

btw

pretty sure tl survived cause its a pretty good site for covering sc, and gg is not up to par in quality of news / vods / etc. thats why all the 'good quality' members are attracted to this place, not because of its lack of strictness

how do you explain the countless members who no longer play sc? the forum's quality plays a huge role in tl's popularity imo.

Im pretty sure teamliquid is more strict than GG.net, i know this because I used to post there and some threads could be so unbelievable stupid, and also because admins in here are more competent in what they do, know more english and are as a whole smarter.

IM NOT A TROLL. PLEASE DONT RESORT TO AD HOMINEM ATTACKS.

I have a history on TLnet and my highlights videos on youtube have over 20k hits. jus because my spelling is bad and i have unpopular opinion does not invalidate my point.

I am sorry for the threds i made that are bad, because im used to the other forum where we can talk about anything.

Wrong. Teamliquid is like a classroom with a really strict teacherr who does not allow discussion on subjets he does not approve. Other forums are like a class where the teacher encorages free thought and protects peoples views regardles how unpopuler . Which class do you learn more from? its a retorical queston.
