Everyone is saying people are retarded cuz they don't read books. I don't get it, do books magically make you intelligent and media-literate? Do I need more books? What will happen if I don't read books, will I get scurvee? I mean, I read books, but just for fun. What's a book that will make me learn a bunch of cool words that make me look intelligent on forums? Will harry potter do? I've read those. Do dragon ball books count? What will reading a book teach me that watching Dancing with the Stars won't? What language should I read these books in? Are there any books about books? Maybe a "Books for idiots"? .. ... ... I don't think they're referring to the fact that people don't read books, but mostly the mentality that people seem to have that reading books makes you a nerd, queer, geek, or whatever (I've actually had some people openly mock me when they saw me reading aSoIaF...cunts). I think that's correct. Learning new things is considered "uncool" or "nerdy" these days. Stupidity isn't a problem by itself, the problem is that stupidity is considered cool by teenagers etc. Intelligent people always do *something* to expand their horizon (for example, read various books). Dumb people never do anything new.
That's not true, sometimes they try ordering a differrent pizza than they usually does...

The important thing is that the US doesn't become like China, but also that it doesn't become some sort of faggy san-francisco-orientated 0 defence nub which gets bombed every month.
Ps I expect no specific president would make much of a difference. Unless they were completely bone-idle, they would accept advice from their heads of intelligence to pass various laws to help the fight against malicious terrorism. I don't think people should vote on mccain or obama based on who they think will make the counter-terrorist intelligence better.
EDIT: Headbangaa, not jibba Fuck you, I don't make interesting arguments.

Fuckin America, I barely know any foreign languages and it's pretty fuckin hard to even visit a foreign country seeing as I live in Kansas and am at least 1 thousand miles from the nearest foreign country. And not like i'm gonna randomly visit Canada and the only times i've been to Mexico was for dumb resort vacation when I was younger. I feel so uncultured, I should learn French or something.

That pisses me off beyond belief. What's even more irritating than them passing that is that people don't care. They say "oh, I have nothing to hide anyway, and it's helping to catch terrorists." It's generally stupid people who say things like that. This government is taking small steps to totalitarianism, all under the guise of "protection." I think it was Ben Franklin who said, "Any man willing to give up freedom for security, gets neither freedom nor security." (Not an exact quote.) Then Saturday morning (I think that's when it was) I see Bush's stupid face on my TV talking about how this will assist in the capture of terrorists, and is a vital part in the protection of the nation. It's such incredible bullshit. There aren't enough good people left running for office to ensure that this is going to change, either. It's only going to get worse, no matter who becomes our next president.
I don't want to see Barrack get the spot at all, because he's simply going to move us in an incredibly socialistic direction, which I am entirely against; however, if McCain gets in, it's simply going to be more of the government intruding in my life like this. I don't think Obama will be much different, sadly.
It makes this year's vote completely futile, to me. In my opinion, this is the biggest issue facing our country, and nobody is concerned about it. Yeah, gas prices suck right now, and the economy is headed on a downward spiral, but what good is money when you have no freedom? I'd rather live broke and free than rich and under the tyrannical control of a government. (I know that's not how the saying goes, but I won't technically be a slave.)
It saddens me so much to see what's going on in this country, and across the world, and how no body minds what's happening at all. People are more concerned about whether two gay people get married, or whether a teenager gets an abortion than they are about the oppressive nature this government is assuming, and governments all across the world. I saw on the first page someone complaining about information taps on all incoming and outgoing internet information. Then Japan with their restrictions on waist size. When will it end?

First off - deadbeef, I was being sarcastic - especially the area I live in, most people you talk to think all Muslims and especially everyone in the middle east is either already a terrorist or will likely become one. Hence my remark about those scary people who don't believe in Jesus. I'm an Atheist, by the way.
As for "fear" of terrorism - I felt like I made my point in a pretty humorous and clear way. The point is - your chances of being affected by a terrorist attack are negligible compared to every other risk you face in living your daily life. Yet politicians, especially Bush & Co have used fear of terrorism to guide our government and foreign policies in directions that have done nothing but make life worse for everyone around the world.
And as for the comment about "people wanting freedom for free" - read up on your history. The USA had a heavy hand in creating the situations in the middle east. The fact is - oil prices and terrorism against the United States are a direct result of our middle east foreign policy over the last 100 or so years. If China occupied our country and forcibly instructed us on how to distribute our natural resource wealth, you can bet your ass any American who committed a "terrorist" act against China would be a HERO in the eyes of other Americans.
Want terrorism to go away? Let every other country run their own government, and quit acting like western democracy is the holy grail of government and it's our divine right to force it on anyone who disagrees.

Yeah whenever I try to explain to someone we have terrorism from these people because we interfere with other countries and our corporations fuck with their economies their response is usually "no we fuck with them because they come over here and fuck with is" or something to the extent. Basically the majority of people who think invading Iraq will solve our terrorist problems talks themselves into believing that by going in circles. Irrational people can't be reasoned with, its just too bad they have the right to vote.

What a great post, I couldn't agree more. The problem is, the people in charge and powerful lobbies profit from going to war and introducing surveillance measures. And they are successful at convincing the unthinking majority with their absurd reasoning.
