Ok so here's the deal. WCG Canada is not having BW this year. Why? They haven't been able to get a sponsor to be able to send a player to the Grand Final. I just talked to the WCG Canada organizer and it's a similar deal as last year as far as budget cuts and whatnot, but I guess they've decided that they can't send a BW player this year.
This is where [hopefully] you all can maybe help. I want to organize a fundraiser to give Canada a BW representative at the grand finals.
We need to raise $5,000 to give Canada a BW spot. Right now I just want to gauge general interest in this idea to see potentially how much can be raised.
I urge everyone to help out, if you love BW you know it would be a damn shame if Canada was deprived representation at the grand final.
Canada is home to some of the best BW players, and there are always amazing games at WCG Canada each year.
IefNaij is still seeking his first medal at WCG Canada, Raptor might try to regain the throne, will Testie return? Bandit and SchiSm are also great players who may want to make another shot at taking gold.
There are a lot of newcomers who have recently gained a lot of skill this past year... Aerials, Kye, GrN, Stalife, etc... who would make WCG much more interesting.
And of course we can't forget about people like JianG, Freaky, and some others who are regulars at WCG Canada finals.
It really would be a shame if there was no BW tournament at WCG Canada, let alone no Canadian at the Grand Final.
So please, if anybody is interested in helping out, PLEASE PM me! I want to see how far we can take this thing, and hopefully if we all pool our efforts we can give WCG Canada a BW tournament.

PS, for anyone that will ask something like "why do I care" , well I've been going to WCG Canada for the past 2 years to hang out with my fellow LighT teammates, and last year I was the head admin for their BW tournament, and was hoping to go again this year. And I'm a BW fan in general and I want to see the best possible WCG for every country if possible, especially one that I am so involved in.

Yeah it was one thing sending Tasteless out of our own pocket. I would rather see a corperate sponsor but thats not really something we can negociate considering its WCG's operation and now ours ~_~

Getting sponsorship for WCG Canada is still an option, however so far they havent been able to get the necessary sponsorship to send a BW player. Anyways, I hope enough people would be interested in helping out. If there is enough positive feedback I'll work out all the logistics on how to get this done and we can get the ball rolling.

Similar situation with WCG Aus. We havent sent a player since 2005 because we cannot get sponsership. We do however send all sorts of teams ever year. Remmber last year our C&C 3 player had never played the game before...

problem solved, JF wins TSL, and he pays his own trip to WCG...
all WCG Canada does is hold tournament, then give the person with enough money to pay themselves to go to the finals, same situation last year in WCG Poland where Draco went...

why dont we all give in small donations to a staff member in TL net, who then gives the money to WCG Canada? TL is a big site, small donations will be enough to carry the 5k. A TL Admin is trustworthy, I'd think, to handle the money.

Whatever, this is probably the last year of wcg anyway, it's always been somewhat of a crappy tournament, but it was basically the only big international sc tourney and with huge names like boxer etc showing up it was kinda nice.

USA has had Paul Brewer do a considerable amount of rule bending (to let deserving players participate, such as in IdrA's case)... I'm sure Canada has someone at the top like him that may be able to pull some strings. Worth checking into. The companies WCG hires to run this shit seems to be different every year too, so things may be possible now.

This really sucks, I have to say. But I sort of agree that WCG really doesn't care about BW. Raising funds for WCG would be nice, but it wouldn't really benefit the SC community all around as would raising funds for say, TSL S2.
As a Canadian, I actually really don't mind cheering for Foreigners in general vs Koreans. With the Foreigners vs Korean competition we have going on, It doesn't feel wrong for me to root for an American or a Russian.
It sucks that Canada won't be represented, and that Canadian players won't get the opportunity, but It's not a terribly deep wound.
Ah fuck it, I'll take TSL over WCG any day.

Again, I don't see why the SC community has to pay WCG money because WCG drops SC. We can pay all we want this year. But next year it will be off again. Same for the year beyond that. Dont get me wrong, I think WCG is a fun time and I have been to both a national and grand final, but I wouldn't donate a dime to this.
WCG has been decaying for the past 2-3 years. They never get their shit together on time, and the people running it are not motivated to do the best job they can.
It is not the responsibility of the gamers to prop up this BUSINESS to make it look good. Remember, this IS a business.
$5,000 is a crazy amount of money, and this is for one person from one country. Many people on this site do not have a WCG spot either. I don't think it is fair to get people to donate to just one cause.
If you have ties with a corporate sponsorship, by all means help out. Don't donate out of pocket though. You are throwing your money away.

i'd work something out to track who gives what so that people can be refunded if we don't raise all we need to...
