That was sort of the problem.

I don't understand why that's a problem if that's what Asmo wants. Why does he have to give us info there if he wants us to find things out another way?

Why?

Social skills are always a really divisive topic in terms of how you use the dice rolls. How Asmo chose to use them was totally within reason. Just because your DM/playing style tends toward rolling dictating outcome rather than the roleplay itself or the DM's own perception of the character they wrote doesn't mean Asmo is "wrong" for seeing this differently.

The worst you could say of it is that it could be considered railroading in a sense to withhold information this way, but I'm pretty damn sure that with the freedom Asmo has given the players in pretty much every other aspect, absolutely no one actually playing the game feels like they're getting railroaded, so who the fuck cares?

wei2 doesn't like that style of dming. Though honestly if you were never going to get anything out of her, then its better that it was RP'd that way than make you make a dozen 40 DC persuasion checks to fail.

Exactly.

The only "advantage" of the latter is that you give Gimble the option to fuck up and waste divination rolls on an impossible check, but given that his divination rolls were low, he'd never have done that anyway. That and adding dice rolls just to trap a player into possibly making a bad decision is fucking stupid.

EDIT: If I were to suggest something--it would be that IMO Asmo should make the DM hidden rolls off screen entirely, rather than in the roll20 interface where the viewers can see them. It makes no difference to the game, but for me as a stream viewer, IMO seeing Asmo's hidden rolls kills the suspense in some scenarios. As a viewer I want the same suspense the players have in not knowing your rolls.

That is part of the reason JP's rollplay series work well, as its from a player perspective, so anything hidden from players is hidden from the viewer. but that would add some work to asmo, who would have to adjust scenes constantly, or have a separate window open to secret rolls. I think its fine as is.

Asmo does enough work for this as is that a little more wouldn't hurt.

Also, he could just roll physical dice for DM hidden rolls. I do that in my roll20 game, partly because rolling physical dice is kind of cathartic.

I agree until I'm rolling literally 7 dice on a single attack and everything inevitably goes everywhere. It got so bad one time I took out a yahtzee cup.

No amount of dice rolls will make a mute person speak or a blind person see.

Also the kidnapee was not mute... there's a thing called interrogation... which this complaint fell more on the players and less so asmo. Why da fuck did you guys just leave wave to do the interrogation? If someone is coming for my life, I would want to know as much info as possible, you guys just let it slide as if it was a one time incident. Like w0t m8?

Even if Asmo rolled, it should be a hidden roll.

And if Asmo was hiding DM-only information like I suggested, you as a viewer wouldn't be able to tell the difference between him rolling it and him just deciding it's an auto-fail.

Wei2 this isn't an argument that none of us have heard before. Like I said, how much you roll for social skills is a pretty divisive issue. You're pretty much just beating a dead horse because this is an argument that's been had hundreds of times before and at the end of the day, there's no "right" or "wrong" it's just how Asmo wants to DM it.

It was clear from the way things went down that the followers of Ultius [sp?] see themselves merely as pawns of the god and will sacrifice themselves before giving any information (this is meta info - my character knows nothing of this). This makes it very easy to extrapolate that harsh interrogations would not glean useful info (and Wave did what he wanted with his character).

Roger knows why they were after him - he made a public speech in a crowded and well-known theatre of the party's triumphs over the Esgogroth. The purpose of this was to draw out more Esgogroth and hopefully get the attention of Marshawn, since he was the one who sent us to assassinate Iridia.

Now, as evident from your request for a recap of our first two session, you know none of this, and you're arguing the way things went down for the sake of imposing your opinions on how a game should be run.

Yango's criticism of rolling stuff off screen is fairly legit, although I don't really have an opinion one way or the other. Having the same suspense as a player does likely helps with the immersion for viewers.

Yeah I'm basically pretty ok with the way things were being done.
I had every idea of the 'extrapolation' soniv is talking about. I assumed she wasn't going to say anything of real importance to the party, but it allows me a chance to RP, maybe learn something small and inconsequential, and a chance for Asmo to do some fun stuff (like having an unknown archer shoot her in the throat).

I mean to some degree yes this is a game, but I'm treating it more like a story than anything, and any chance I can get to add to the intrigue and 'interesting' factor I'm sure as hell going to do so.

Well that's the thing - it is a story. We are helping to mold it as much as Asmo is, which should be clear to everyone at this point considering how many times we've derailed Asmo's plans. Asmo gave us a sandbox to play in, and we're building (or kicking down, depending on your perspective) sandcastles.
