Doing the numbers and build first made writing the bio/character interesting because this way I can have my story fit what I rolled.

What's starting gold and level? previously asmo said to do it like they say in the book Roll four 6-sided dice and record the total of the highest three dice on a piece of scratch paper. Do this five more times, so that you have six numbers.... Now take your six numbers and write each number beside one of your character’s six abilities from my online alternative with book marks on dropbox if anyone needs

I recommend having a copy of the PBE on hand for your own reference, and I'm sure there are online "alternatives" to buying it. *PHB Too much PBE discussion in the GD thread, lol.

Also I won't have the time to commit to this and you have enough enough interest but if you need help with stuff or if a player drops out I can try to help, decent experience playing and DMing but not with next. Will be following in any case!

"It should be noted that a cleric of a lesser god will develop the same in-game strength as any other adventurer, in spite of their deities’ “comparative power.” An argument could be made that a lesser god would not be able to grant the powers a level 20 cleric should possess, but, if a player has a level 20 cleric, there’s reason to assume that their influence has drawn more worshippers to their god, providing the god itself with greater power." Might be easier to suggest that because lesser gods have fewer clerics they're more able to dole out power to them rather to suggest that lesser gods must become greater as their clerics increase in level That being said, before i look into submitting a sheet (because I love this kind of shit) i was wondering what kind of GM you were. Do you encourage metagaming? Will the campaign need/want a lot of min-maxing or will more well rounded characters do better? I haven't looked at 5e yet, but i am pretty certain I can break it if i want to. I just want to know how much i should. Additionally are we starting out without having adventured yet or should we have already described ourselves as having one?

Why would you ever want to encourage metagaming? There's no way to win D&D, so trying to outplay/break everything seems completely out of the spirit of the game to me. You're developing a story, not trying to achieve some nonexistant victory.

asmo said he is welcoming brand new players so i think it won't require min/maxing. and ill bet there will be lots of opportunities to roll play as opposed to pure hack and slash.

Echoing this, "high power" games are fun if and only if all players and the DM are in agreement, all players are familiar enough with the system to match a similar power level, and the DM has enough familiarity to still present an interesting gameplay experience to that level of character power (side note: the game I'm currently DMing is actually this kind of "high power" game--the group is experienced, but some of the players wanted the experience of this kind of game because they'd never tried it before). Given how this game is open to people with no D&D experience, and given how Asmo openly admits to never DMing a 5E game before, it should be a given that this is a low power game. Also, breaking things to the point of degeneracy is never fun, period. Some level of optimization generally tends to balance out the experience better (i.e. a 3.5E Wizard taking Grease and Color Spray at level 1 rather than Magic Missile and Burning Hands is likely to have more fun even if it trivializes some encounters--because its not very wizard-y when you spend the entire day hitting things with your stick), but overdoing it never works. As much as I've dabbled in theoretical character optimization in 3.5E, it's still absolutely not fun in the slightest to play a game with Pun-Pun, and even "tamer" games with stuff like Divine Metamagic or Polymorph as written still end up getting really stupid at one point or another. "Breaking" the game is pretty much always counterproductive, no matter how experienced the players and DM are, and should be left in the realm of theorycraft.

I haven't looked at 5e yet, but i am pretty certain I can break it if i want to. I just want to know how much i should. Additionally are we starting out without having adventured yet or should we have already described ourselves as having one? As far as lore goes, both ideas apply. I THINK I mentioned that in one of the documents, but if I hadn't, that's what I intended. Lesser gods have less power to dole out and give it to fewer people. ALSO, a Cleric isn't going to get power-capped based on who they choose to worship, since it's entirely possible to be stronger than a god (or many). It's lore to serve the players so they can feel free to story-up however they want. I don't have a lot of experience with min/max-ing and metagaming to be honest, and that's usually not my focus. I like to tell stories, for the most part, and to give the players the power to have all the fun they can in the world. If that means that the players want to do ridiculous min/maxing and shit, that's up to them and I'll figure out how to deal with it. Personally, I don't think that playing numbers is as interesting as playing characters. I plan to nerf shit that leads to outright ridiculousness. Polymorph, as Yango mentions, is a prime target for such shit. Also, long rests and the Alert feat (also mentioned by Yango, soniv, etc.). The rest we'll figure out as we go along. If it trivializes the game to the expense of the narrative or a sense of immersion, I don't think that's worth it (but again, maybe the party will). Your backstory can be whatever you want. You're level 1, that's about it. It can mean almost anything. As far as your fellow party members, you will NOT have met them before.
