There are a lot of factors to deciding who's actually the best player. With Life there wasn't really a discussion because he both looked the most dominant and won the most difficult tournaments. Both Zest and soO would have arguments depending on where they'd place in the tournaments you mentioned.

I think the one thing I didn't really like about the originals* is how Luke is this 100% good guy, and part of the reason Episode 6 kinda fell short of its potential is the whole "Is Luke going to turn evil?" thing is laughable rather than possible.
