Good thing is that we have more tournaments in korea! I think it's the best StarCraft 2 news we've had since WCS was formed!! I'm especially excited to hear about the potential of weekend tournaments (IEM / DreamHack style) in Korea!! I think it would be amazing for some of the Korean's that don't travel much to get that "endurance" practice! Yeah, It's amazing news! Finally they will get the amount of points they deserve! This kills foreign hope though I think it kills foreign "charity". Snute was within a few hundred points (I think a single higher placing would have been enough) from qualifying this year. Next year will likely be similarly hard. However, I still think that there are practice benefits to the region lock. Western players will be able to compete a little bit more and improve. As a spectator I do like that region lock gives larger tournaments in which I can cheer for a "home town hero". It could also draw some of the hype of having Koreans traveling to weekend events (like it was when the first Koreans came over for an MLG or IEM). We also don't have the final word on the region lock and how it will affect every "foreign Korean" (besides Polt, I think he's a sure thing to remain in WCS AM). And win every season The thing is, foreigners got better by playing against koreans, now it's taken away from them. So, when Koreans actually go to weekend events, they'll just chrush any foreigner

But the bottom line is (and this is the reason for posting) BLIZZCON PASSION!!! Not fake caster hype. Genuine excitement that in about 36 hours begins the tournament that players have been collecting points for all year!! Sixteen of the BEST StarCraft 2 players will begin battling for the title of BLIZZCON CHAMPION!!
It's been a lot of fun posting in this thread, getting to know people and I look forward to continuing it for the remaining time we have. Let's let the excitement carry us to the final post and into filling a new thread as the hype continues to build and games begin!

So, when Koreans actually go to weekend events, they'll just chrush any foreigner I'm just hoping that the region lock does indeed allow the tier 2 foreigners to close the distance to the tier 1 foreigners. The weekend events will be the true competitions of the highest level (and the place for tier 1 foreigners to continue to improve / practice for). + Show Spoiler +the motivation to practice goes a long way! Hopefully region locking encourages more practice (because more foreigners will be competing) . I also think enough Koreans will remain in each region that laddering will provide a high enough level of practice (don't most NA pros practice on KR or EU anyway?).
Essentially I see the region lock as changing the (western) WCS regions from being "highest level" to being more of a "training ground" and weekend tournaments stepping back into their pre-WCS roles. This works well in theory but my main concern is viewership... (it was WCS points for Koreans, but that's less of an issue with the new announcement.)

If anything, I'm hoping they don't follow a strict schedule. I'd rather have minimal downtime between games!

Just making to Taeja vs soO is going to be hard! (As much as I want to watch INnoVation, I do expect him to dispatch HyuN.) Taeja vs soO though will probably be one of the best matches! Both have insane offline records against the other race (like 74 and 77 % win!!).
