There is an article I wrote on how professionalism and manners go hand in hand in a game such as Starcraft 2. It isnt that long but I feel it explains the gist of things. I wrote it to help out a few friends of mine learn to cope with anger issues and raging in a gaming atmosphere. Hope you all like it.
________________________________- I would like to take the time to refresh a simple and easy way to get by in life while gaining the respect of others...It's called manners. It seems as the years go by, more people are spoiled in the high tech and liberal world than ever. I see two main problems that kill manners. One is that people tend to either have been raised in a household that simply is without manners, or have lost them as they became young adults in a confusing and frustrating world.
Those individuals can be subjected to what most would call cynicism, which is an attitude or state of mind characterized by a general distrust of others' apparent motives or ambitions with a general lack of faith or hope in the human race, or in certain individuals ,therefore deserving of ridicule or admonishment. It is a form of jaded negativity.
We as people have opinions and emotions, and we are entitled to them. However, the ball stops there. Taking your opinions and forcing them on others, calling someone stupid, or ignorant only reflects on you, by the choice of words you use. The point you make never stands ground the minute you lose control. People view this as being rebellious and strong minded. However, it is just the opposite and shows weakness.
Now, it is not easy, I have had times in life where I go off on people. I used to always blame the other person for my rage. In fact I created or further instigated my own anger by not letting it go! I made myself look uneducated, and realized that by blaming the other people; all I did was "not” accept responsibility for my own actions.
So the next time we game in Starcraft 2 and some random player causes issues; please realize that by returning fire, you fell right into their troll trap. Being clear minded, and learning to let stuff go will not only allow a happier gaming environment, it will allow you to focus on real game play techniques, and not just coming up with excuses for your loss that get you nowhere. Balance issues, race discrepancies, ect are ok to discuss, and doing so on an educated level will not only relax your mind, it will earn some respect across with other players. Image is important, especially in a game like Starcraft 2. Remember that being professional, starts only by practicing professionalism.

Not offering advice at cost. I have nothing to gain except hopefully reaching out to a troll or two haha. My site is strictly a gaming site that is non profit so again I have nothing to gain. If I offend anyone then let me know.

Your post is lacking meat. Add more beef like quotes from the article. It's much better than basically just posting a link and praying. Edit: Much better
|
maybe post it here.
otherwise this is advertising, and will be closed.
|
post the article here and give people something to discuss
|
I also support TL, Reddit, and 4 chan with links to their site. (and long time faithful memberships to all 3).

Should be in blog to be honest.
And when I clicked on the site i feel like i went back to 2001

This is not about the site. It is about respect. So hopefully kids can learn some. Honestly I would like some educated feedback.
|
Many people have already explained that this will be considered advertising. Reasoning that you support TL doesn't really mean much because the rules are rules.
|
Calling people kiddies must be some new form of showing respect.
|
On March 25 2013 10:25 CFNightphox wrote: This is not about the site. It is about respect. So all you little kiddies can learn some. Honestly I would like some educated feedback. Where is the professionalism in calling users in your post "kiddies"?
|
I changed the post from the original already. It seems anything worth while is trolled, and everything not important or not educated is accepted. Next time I will make sure to post a picture of a squirrel wearing sunglasses to appeal to the masses. Jeez
|
Kiddie is not derogatory. It simply is slang that means young, which kinda seems like I hit the nail on the head with some people. Please refrain from non relevant conversation.
|
Have more of a persecution complex. Who the Fuck are you to lecture me or anyone else about respect.
|
Real men just say what they think and be blunt about it. Also, would blog be more appropriate? I cannot tell.
|
And yes, kiddies is derogatory.
|
On March 25 2013 10:25 CFNightphox wrote: This is not about the site. It is about respect. So all you little kiddies can learn some. Honestly I would like some educated feedback. this is too funny. write a blog about manners, call people kiddies. el oh el

Its pretty cool that you can write an article about respect, then go on to call the tl users kiddies ^_^ ... Also, do you have any education in psychology or something similar that would make you more qualified to write this article than me? I kinda want to know this comes from, if it is actually worth something.
[EDIT]: It seems like you wrote this article to members of your clan, like this is some sort of invitation/advertisement for people to join your clan???
|
I just don't talk when I play.
Most people on ladder who say "gl hf" don't mean it. As soon as they start losing or lose they start to talk shit.
|
What/who is this article talking about??!
|
So basically, the only real reason you are even posting this here is to get your teams website / your team more attention, and because you want to float under the radar of advertising on TL, you wrote it as a heartfelt message as to why good manner is important on ladder.
I agree with your post but seriously, try to be a little more creative when your just blatantly advertising for your team / your teams website.

The irony is hilarious given how you write a post about manners and professionalism.

Plenty of guys here over 30 with families you know. ._.

TL users in general are not kiddies. Some people are just young and obviously need a little respect. I'm sure a good amount of mature TL users can agree.

On March 25 2013 10:25 CFNightphox wrote: This is not about the site. It is about respect. So all you little kiddies can learn some. Honestly I would like some educated feedback. Okay, here's your feedback:
1. If you're going to ask for an educated discussion, don't call TL users kiddies when you don't know how old we are (in fact, I can nearly guarantee that you're not the oldest one browsing these forums) and 1a. Spell check and edit. I see multiple instances of poor editing and grammar that could be fixed by a read through. If you're going to ask for an educated discussion, write better. 2. I always gl hf at the beginning and gg when I lose, because there's a human being on the other end of the connection who may or may not be having a bad day, or going through a rough patch etc. who deserves to have a mannered experience when they sit down to ladder.

The article just doesn't really provide much for anyone. You could've written "manner up kthx" and gotten the same message across.
Also, professional just means it's something you do as your main source of income. The reason "professional" is often heard as a way to talk about proper conduct is because when you work for somebody, you're representing them and will lose your job if you act in a way different than what the employer intended (and if you're self employed you'll lose business by way of disgruntled customers). Your headline is about professionalism, but in the piece you only mention professionalism in your last line.
Your ideas in each paragraph are very loosely connected and don't offer much in the way of discussion or information. Some lines are unrelated to the surrounding lines, such as " It seems as the years go by, more people are spoiled in the high tech and liberal world than ever."
You even had the line "The point you make never stands ground the minute you lose control" and immediately after start insulting people.
I'm all for everyone acting nice to each other, but it just wasn't a good piece of writing and there's not much to discuss.

Nice site bro, is it hosted by geocities

Well I know anyone with a mature attitude was not offended. The term kiddie is just a term I used to refer to children. If your not a child, or a disrespectful person like half the replies I have received so far, then I AM POSSITIVE you were not offended.
|
I gl hf everygame but if I dont feel like it was a GG i wont GG.
it does stand for goodgame after all right?
|
The irony of the OP's replies in this thread to criticism by "returning fire" is incredible.
|
i wish i didn't rage, i just can't control it and I hate it -_-

I already could foresee the trolling replies to this article. It proves my point. I did not return fire at anyone ever. I never once mentioned another user or quoted from another user. I simply defended myself in vein. Sorry for trying to post something sincere. Truly sorry.
|
I am sorry but I feel you have no morale high ground there. You should put down the high strung notes...

Why can`t you get some manners ad treat everyone with respect?
Not to mention that implying that if you are a kid you are automatically poorly educated and poorly mannered and disrespectfull is bigoty, to say the least.

If that's not returning fire to criticism, I don't know what is. You chose to call out the userbase of TL after posting an article linking to your site without also posting the article, an article that is actually about respect for anonymous people over the internet, and then turtle and deny when confronted about it. These responses aren't trolling, they're normal reactions to transparent motives.

Please don't close this thread, if has potential

It's not the term so much as they way it was used. You were obviously annoyed because people weren't replying in the way you wanted. So you threw out that term in a derogatory manner, you had no way to know the age of the people you were talking to.
Also calling people kiddies, kid, etc etc is a very common form of BM whether you realise it or not.

Nice post, CFNightphox. Why not act ''professional'' and apologize?

I dont need to prove to anyone my professionalism. I know I am a caring person who just tried to give a little insight to some people. If it offered nothing for you, then move on. If it did then I at least put a seed of truth in a few folks. For those of you who had to take the time out to be negative, I can't defend myself against people who refuse to look at the big picture of my post, and make micro points on things that are irrelevant. Again, I ask for only replies to the topic as it stands in its entirety. Thank you all.

None of that means that you act in a professional manner. Please learn the definition of the word before you try to preach about it. Also, stop talking. You're making your team look TERRIBLE.

This seems to have imploded upon itself.
The article was interesting, short, but interesting. I'm not convinced that the writer of the article has been able to convince himself, let alone anyone else, of the importance of manners, though. I suppose it's a multiple-step program of rehabilitation. One does not simply manner up.
|
Zennith, again please reply to topic and refrain from your trolling, or just move on.

(you will miss half the fun of sc2 if you don't balance whine lol)

This article totally changed my life. I used to start my games by telling my opponent off. This surprise attack usually threw them for a loop and was distraction enough for my classic 6 worker rush TM to win me the game. Top NA Bronze here. Not feeling satisfied I'd message them afterwards with details of my late nights with their mothers.
But now. My god. My eyes have been opened and my world shattered by this article. I know now that in order to succeed in anything, life, starcraft, mud wrestling, etc I must needs display manners. Force out manner words while I make sarcastic remarks! Genius! I can feel myself about to reach masters.
Thank you so much OP! You've made me a life time fan of your team and your website is now my homepage.
My heart grew 10 sizes this day. And surely world peace is soon to follow.
