Trump: I want people to come who are educated and speak English. Democrats: That's so racist, that means you're not importing black people. What are you even talking about? I think there was a fox segment where a talking head put it as so we're only taking immigrants from Europe and Australia? being the snark remark to such requirements and the fox anchor went on t hat's super racist to think other people from other counties can't speak EnglishSomething baity and stupid like that. No, first of all, obviously I don't watch Fox, and second of all, Steven Miller tried to pull the same shit during the press conference and it was pathetic then as well. My point is, implying that a merit based immigration policy is "racist", is kind of racist. Not that that word means anything anymore, anyway. Yes it does. Like this post for instance is pretty racist! In the politico interview someone posted earlier he was referring to Jefferson while he defended his protectionism. I don't really think going back to the economic policy of provincial farmers of the 18th century is a great idea. It's funny that the US at the same time are so successul at producing global businesses with some of the smartest guys from all around the globe but have this huge streak of nativist politics going on at the same time. Neoliberalism has gutted this country. In a perfect world we would be like Germany but with tighter immigration. Critizing the fact that America draws people from all over the world is kind of terrible, it's the unique strength of the US. It's like your superpower. Immigration criticism in the US is like critizing engineering and beer in Germany. It's what keeps the country running. Immigration to the US is already incredibly difficult I would imagine a lot more so than say Canada or Germany. Immigration into Germany is the easiest thing in the world, just show up while having dark skin. America has no official language. A language requirement is nonsensical. Under these requirements most likely the current First Lady wouldn't be in the country for starters. Stephen Miller's own grandparents would 100% not have been allowed into the country. What? How? I'm just describing the reality of German immigration policy right now.
If you think "just be brown" is an honest, fair, and accurate description of German immigration policy and not reductionist absurdity I'm not sure what to say. But go ahead and try to peddle "democrats are the REAL racists" while spouting stuff like that.
|
Instead of attacking the absurdity of that point, go ahead and tell me what's absurd about it. Crying racism isn't an argument, if you have any insights that on German immigration that you think I lack, do share.
But you're right, "just be brown" isn't enough. "Just be brown and walk into Germany" is what it actually takes.
|
Please provide documentation of your claim. I need to see proof of this "just be brown" immigration policy out of Germany.

That Six.Strings comment was merely a dumb, racist jab at the acceptance by Germany of refugees from war torn countries. Germany's immigration policy for non-EU is limited to skilled workers and student visas, for EU citizens it's pretty open.

Holy shit, what an unwarranted attack. "refugees" is a lie. "war torn countries" is a lie. Unless every northern / Sub Saharan country as well as Bangladesh is per default "war torn", then you have a point. This absurd notion that the immigrants who are now pouring into Germany are mostly refugees from Syria is a talking point that hasn't had any validity since 2015.
Instead of virtue signalling and ignoring reality, which is extremely harmful even to legitimate refugees who are lumped in with the welfare tourists, you should ask yourself what the solution to a migrant crisis from 15 different countries is. Because even if we were able to "solve" Syria overnight, end the war in Afghanistan, find a perfect solution to Yemen and turned Turkey back into a country where people actually want to stay, what's our solution to Kongo? To Somalia? Eritrea? Lybia?

A blast caused by what the FBI called “an improvised explosive device” rocked a Bloomington Islamic center before dawn Saturday, just as a small group of Muslim worshipers had gathered for the day’s first round of prayers.
No one was hurt in the explosion, which heavily damaged an imam’s office at the Dar Al Farooq Center and sent smoke wafting through the large building. Windows in the office were shattered, either by the blast or by an object thrown through them.
The blast was reported at 5:05 a.m. as about a dozen people gathered in a room nearby for morning prayers and jolted awake many residents of the neighborhood. Congregants and neighbors expressed relief that there were no injuries, but also reacted with shock and dismay.
When police arrived, they found smoke and fire damage to the building, said Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts. Agents from the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives soon joined the investigation. A large area outside the center was taped off as investigators, including members of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, combed through the grass.

To Somalia? Eritrea? Lybia? 1. This thread is for US politics. I honestly don't care about refugees in europe. They don't affect me one whit. I barely even care about Syria. There's an EU politics thread where you can go debate about what I assume are conspiracy theories about German policy. 2. Yes, what you said was incredibly racist. Just accept that. Does that make you a bad person? No, not necessarily. It doesn't even necessarily make you racist. It just means you might want to reconsider your phrasing of your point. 3. Your current argument is, at best, virtue signaling for fellow conservatives. It's also pretty nonsensical. Who the hell are we virtue signaling to on a mostly-anonymous messageboard?
Virtue signaling is correctly used to reference people making certain types of posts on facebook, twitter etc. to increase their social standing. Yes, it's a thing, but when it actually happens it annoys liberal activists far more than it does conservatives, not sure why they've latched onto the term. 4. Please tell me where I can go so that my cherokee dark skin will grant me free citizenship in Germany.

Always great when your city makes it into the news.

Fair point about this being an American thread, sorry for that.
I'm certainly not a conservative, but I'll shut up about European politics now.
For your sarcastic last point: + Show Spoiler + You won't get citizenship, by the way, but you will get, for a non-finite amount of time, Duldungsstatus, meaning you can stay as long as you want, are eligible for all welfare programmes (you get a flat, utilities, health care, schooling for however many kids you have and a monthly allowance of about 400 Euro for food, clothing and whatever luxuries you have, around 180 addtional Euros for every child you have, 370 Euros for each of your wives - unless she's underage, then it's only 180 Euro).

No problem, the thread gets extra stupid around that topic so I prefer to avoid it if it all possible.
Also, a 17 day break is not a vacation apparently

There are literally photos of him golfing exactly that when that posted.

There's this great subreddit called /r/TrumpCriticizesTrump, where Tweets he made about Obama are posted when they're relevant to him. It's the easiest karma-farm you can imagine. Vacation Tweet

There's a couple more tweets related to the staff issues he's been having :
And does he have a point here? I didn't think he changed anything, but I haven't been following the isis effort closely:

Reporters have been saying that there is old Trump tweet for every occasion. And ever green garden of hypocrisy.

ISIS has definitely been losing ground over 2016/2017. Don't think Trump had enough time to have had a significant impact there though. They were on the back foot for a while now.
Whether things will heat up again after the dust settles... that is an open question.

Yeah if it's accelerating it seems that it's just the natural result of constant pressure reaching a tipping point. I can't think of a single change that would have had any affect.

It's like a WoL PvT, ISIS died in February and they're just in a prolonged death animation
