The President isn't supposed to be elected by popular vote because it would give to much power to the urban centers while removing power from the less populated states. We are a collection of tiny governments overseen by one larger, but limited government. Ah yes, I remember that argument. 'The crisis of democracy', when the wrong people get to vote.

Are you talking about the guy who was just lifting a sign? Then almost got strangled to death by Trump fans?

He was a protester holding a "Republicans against Trump" sign. Someone else yelled gun. I don't think that was yesterday, though, so maybe something happened I missed.

What has he done since the debates to restore your shattered faith in his ability to act effectively as an administrator? I think he's bad. My impressions after the debated never went away and I'm very disappointed with him. That said, imo Hillary is worse. For me it went Trump being a 6 and Hillary a 2, to Trump being a 3-4 and Hillary being a 2.5-3.

There are likely thousands of articles and papers written on the subject. But the long and short of it is that a straight popular vote would disenfranchise a lot of the states. The president is an important role in the government, but gets far to much attention considering how powerful the legislature is(elected by pure popular vote). In reality, state governments have more impact on the general population.

If you’re puzzling at the results in Virginia — more than a fifth of precincts are reporting and Trump leads by more than 10 points — don’t expect an upset there just yet. There’s still a ton of the vote left to report in Northern Virginia, specifically the heavily Democratic Washington D.C. suburbs. I guess I'm not the only one freaking out about Virginia
