But mid tier of 2011 is still WAY stronger then top tier of 2001 ! just wait... you will see...

I think the problem with going bio mech vs protoss is the upgrades. You can't really upgrade both paths when the protoss is already ahead on ground upgrades vs bio. Tanks do 15/25 DPS unsieged for 150/125/3 and have 160 HP and 1 base armor. They have 1 range more than Marauders and are less vulnerable to archons. They are also less vulnerable to splash damage due to their size. Marauders do 10/20 DPS with stim (6.67/13.33 without) for 100/25/2 and have 125 HP and 1 base armor. They also move 50% faster with stim and can be healed by medivacs. They also take about 2/3rds of the time to build, take only two slots in a medivac, and can enter bunkers. Finally, they have Concussive Shells, which work against everything but the Colossus. Sure, it's theorycraft, but it's fairly clear that marauders are far superior to unsieged tanks, especially in the early game before splash damage is out but after stim is done. Tanks use up a lot of gas which could instead be used for upgrades, ghosts, or starport units.

A lot of players will have newfound motivation for SC2 and a lot won't, and the top players won't be the same.

The rest were B-teamers or had terrible records

Something Prime's "ace" MKP doesn't make in a year winning tournaments, let alone get salaried... And how do you have any idea what the best RTS players of all time can do in a Mechanically laxed game? Yes I'm aware that Flash commands a ridiculous salary. Even if he forms his own team with other ex-BW pros, they are still 2 years behind the current SC2 pros. Regardless of how mechanically skillful a player is, strategies are still first and foremost in the proscene. That's why GSL is dominated by the most well executed builds/cheeses you'll ever see.

Obviously, players coming from BW will make a big impact because it drastically increases the pool of progamers with strick practicing regiments. However, will the top players like Flash, Bisu, JD be as dominant or maybe someone like Stats, Zero or maybe current B teamers 'get' the game more? Only time will tell.
