It would be nice to have an IGNORE POSTER button.

Certain posters are distracting or just flame baiting...would be easier if we had an ignore button so we don't have to see their posts. Keeps the environment clean from flaming, too.

Thanks.
I searched up "ignore post" "how to ignore"
and couldn't find anything.

I'll shutup about this if TL.net is against it.

Many started very civil and said that either your statistics in OP are wrong or your argument why you neglect their opinion. You can´t have it both ways.
You want to say TvZ is Terran favoured and if you would say that straight out I guess there would not be much "flame baiting". But they don´t like how you argue or make "statistics".
Repeating over and over "I will ignore you" won´t help your argument either.

But yes, I would like to ignore some users too, but then I notice that they don´t post against the Guidelines, or are atleast on the very thin line. So I have to live with it and wait till I can report them.

I am sorry but you got the stats wrong.
The over 20 requirement is for cluster analysis, something that you aren't doing because you are not trying to make any clusters out from the data set.
The over 20 thing you talked about is just for normal hypothesis testing, which you aren't doing.
You need to calculate out the optimal minimal sample size based upon your confidence interval etc

in short, you need to calculate out a sample size that truely represent the population. Merely 50 games out of his entire ZvT history does not make sense

Yep. The study cited in the OP pertains to a specific type of stats testing, called cluster analysis.

Maybe read up on it a bit before you cite it as valid, OP. You're talking about simple testing for type 1/2 statistical errors, so you would need a much larger sample size. I did a post a while ago doing rigid scientific statistical analysis on korean matchup percentages, and I think even a sample size of ~200 games rendered a ~7% difference statistically irrelevant.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_analysis

Edit: It was a sample size of 130, and an ~8% statistical difference. This was rendered statistically insignificant using standard p-level analysis. Here's the link to my analysis.

Don't like. It kinda relates to a sort of "hidden" TL policy I've seen come up a few times. Either you're in a conversation or you're not, and if you've got people blocked and don't see their posts, everything's gonna get all messy. Besides, if someone's really so consistently bad of a poster to the point that you want to block them and never see them again, you can probably report them and the local supermods will deal with it.

Though I wouldnt mind a PM block function, but I guess not so much anymore since it's been a long time since my stalker has PM'd me.

Hmmm hopefully you didn't have anything important to say. You were sort of trolling that one time, so I've decided to completely dismiss everything you ever try to post again.

Hey, you guys know that this "ignore post" idea has been brought up before right? There's like three or four threads about it. Didn't you search? Jeeze, this is why I ignore your posts, you don't even search before making threads.

an ignore list has been brought up before, and discarded. there are too many issues with people posting shit that is misinformed or missing information because they have the someone who posted something important in the thread on their ignore list.

genuinely shitty posters get banned, so the only use for the ignore list is personal grudges and disputes.

edit: lol just read micro and mango's posts. that pretty much sums up why ignore list is a dumb idea

I'd like to bump this, even if the chances of seeing this feature appear on the boards are rather slim. But I have to try.

I don't see how an ignore feature would inevitably lead to an increase in work for moderators. Yes, there might be the odd situation where poster A from poster B's ignore list has posted something integral to a discussion and B thus missed the argument - but it's not like that would disrupt the entire discussion to a point where a mod would have to pick up the pieces. We're already having this "issue" with large and active topics, where contributions that spark (sub)-discussions are easily missed; this doesn't stop the discussions from thriving, and I don't see complete pages drenched in red afterwards either.

Also, chances are that if an ignored poster wrote something so vital to a thread that it'd definitely would have had to be read, it'd appear in quotes and would result in the ignorer reading what the ignoree (is that a word?) wrote anyway.

Why do I write this? Because it's becoming more and more frustrating to wade through quite a number of general and non-SC related threads without encountering one of the countless trolls or those people who aren't here for an intelligent discussion. It wears my patience thin having to wait for them to grow bored of a discussion and leave or get banned due to their antics; at that point, they've already derailed a thread or completely screwed over several pages. The option to ignore these people would bring peace of mind to those interested in maintaining an actual conversation AND deprive the trolls of the attention they crave.

If they are legitimately trolling and derailing discussion, bring it to the attention of a moderator. If the mods don't take action, it's because they aren't actually trolling or being that disruptive, and you're just sick of seeing things you don't agree with.

Yeah, because a mod report will immediately lead to a warning, which in turn will immediately lead to the troll reflecting upon his prior behaviour and becoming a productive member of the forums.
