1) they smell bad, that's why they made cologne and perfume to cover the lack of showering. 2) they're arrogant, and overly nationalistic. (ie, every time stephano is mentioned there are 30-40 new accounts created on tl from france just to defend stephano). 3) they're giant metrosexual culture. 4) funny accent, which gets all the girls. 5) they made a cannon wall in, except left a giant hole in it (belgium). ^this is just a list of observation, not saying these are true.

EDIT:Well, just when I write that somebody posts a comment above me about the metrosexuality of them, it might not be the same but I guess it's kind of similiar

Been waiting for someone to post somethin' like this xD @SilentchiLL that's honestly the most common stereotype for people to choose when poking fun at the French (at least here in Virginia it is). Always get a good laugh when someone gets offended because they take it too seriously (though there are loads of rednecks here who believe this as fact...wish Darwin's Theory was a faster process)

French : "Si ceux qui disent du mal de moi savaient ce que je pense d'eux, ils en diraient bien davantage." (Bad) translation : "If those who speak ill about me knew what i think about them, they would speak much more ill..." As a french myself, i don't care about those stereotypes. As soon as i don't have to suffer them, i don't mind. You can't blame people for having opinions on things they don't even know, it's natural and country stereotypes are something that has always been and will go on for long ! ![]()

Well, first, I'm french, student, 24, live in France, and i would say there are lots of dumbs in this country, as all countries have. There are a lot of problems but i also like my country because there are also beautiful things which strangers maybe can't understand. We generally are proud of our culture, our langage, etc.. ofc, they always are mistakes/failures, but who did not ? I personnally don't like the way where americans "impose" their culture to the world (in behalf of God sometimes). Maybe it's not the case, but it's how we usually see USA. And i would say, we are a country of protester(? not sure if it's the good word), so, we can't accept it ! Maybe because of our celtic/german/goth genes ahah ![]() ![]() I'm always aware to learn about different cultures, even i don't like them sometimes, but i don't want to be forced to earn something. Bashing for funny things is nothing, it reveals where we come from, sometimes funny "cliché"(french are all guys with beret, baguett and red wine under the arm, it can see that sometimes TRUE STORY! I saw it myself !). Now we don't fight anymore in wars, so friendly bashing is another way to continue those little quarrels. Bashing hatefully, I personnally don't care. I just think, that kind of people are just retard, arrogant, ignorant... ; just ignore those people and it's ok. (It's valid for all sides). Unfortunatly, for what I know and understand, americans like when their politics say they are the best country, the best people, the best... In France, we don't really care about that, we just want to have a better life, have the best things for us, have politics who give us solutions, no matter who is the best in the world. It's a bit harsh to say that but we don't live for our country like americans would say, but we live with our culture which is important in many ways (dunno how to say it properly in english). Also, i want to add. Americans always talk about the WWII and our coward retreat. Yeah, we are grateful they helped (i am saying "helped", without Resistance, maybe D-Day would never have happened, who knows) us to liberate our country (and even, if we remember well, they did not take part in this conflict before Pearl Harbor, even when Also, if my memory is good enough, i learnt in history general Lafayette (i think he's the good one), french guy, fought alongside americans to beat some UK battleships (not battlecruisers i think^^). Maybe they should remember that fact sometimes. And sorry for the poor English i wrote, but educational system did not provide a real good teaching of other langages when i was younger (even i don't like learn new langages). I think they are now more aware of this fact and they are trying to catch up the time they lost, when our world is going to be more global everyday. We are far behind compared to some other European countries. But as you can see, some of us are trying to be understandable from you, english speakers, and i do my best to improve my english, even if I still don't like the langage. I think i have learn more english on the internet, reading blogs, news, etc.. than school. Well, i just hope you'll understand me. Wow, a long post for a guy who doesn't like english :D

Everything in American politics is spun and each side always exaggerate the other's opinions and make up facts about one another so that the general public find it extremely difficult to know anything concrete or come to sensible conclusions. There is no independent news agency or any media that is free of political spin, and it used as a tool to manipulate the opinions of ordinary people. I'm not a conspiracy nut, but I do think that there are not rules or conventions that stop the 2 main political parties interferring with the news and media. This is important because it is in this environment that the french have become stereotyped as everything the US political system HATES. In France they are proudly socialist, and this means that trade unions represent portions of the workforce in the poltical world. France has a high tax rate, but this is balanced by the high degree of social welfare provided by the state. Most people in the US would place the Democrats on the left and the Republicans on the right, but compared to Europe they are both FAR right wing. The USA has never understood socialism because it never had a Monarchy or a class system, and as such never had a people's rebellion in which the rights of ordinary working people were the central issue. The US system was created by rich people who were therefore powerful. This system has never been challenged so it is that the whole of politics is determined by rich people to this day. It is also for this reason why business and personal wealth accumulation can sit so hand in hand in the USA, whilst in other countries being a political representative is seen as "serving" (so it is not correct to personally gain financially from your position whilst you are in office at least). Anyway, the point is that the media have linked french with "socialism", and this word has been spun and misrepresented so much by the politically controlled media, that it immediately engeneders panic in 90% of US citizens, without any real understanding of why.

I cringe when I hear politicians do it...but I have to admit I get a chuckle out of French stereotyping now and again. Any nationality with such a distinct language and culture is going to have some jokes poked at it. (I really do hope I get to visit France some day)
