I could enlighten you and link you some pointers both in french and in english about the way the world see France but it's much more funnier to see a good iteration of mindless debates by people who have little arguments to sustain their sayings ...

Look at Americans' lack of love for France, even though they helped them a little against the British. Look at how many Anglophone Ontarians shit-talk Quebecois while they worship Georges St-Pierre. Just a solid old rivalry, IMO. No harm intended, I'm sure. It would take a quick US history course to show how little we have in common with France. In under 50 years after the revolution, the US decided that they were better off improving relations with Britain than with France, given that they honestly had to choose. The United States was always closer to Britain. We hastily signed a treaty to end the Revolution before France could have its say. Basically, the US and France have never been especially close. Despite the revolution and the War of 1812, we still liked Britain more.

They only entered WW2 because of German's declaration of war against them on Dec. 11th. Nitpicking? Yes, but truth is truth is truth. As far as WWII, I think we would have eventually been involved in the European Front regardless of Pearl Harbor or German's declaration of war against us. First though, we had to build up the infrastructure to be able to support an overseas war against a German army that literally had the resources of all of Europe. This started by providing the English with all types of weaponry and war machines as we continued to build up our infrastructure. Because of the ramped up production to provide the English with weapons we had the factories in place to sustain war-time production. There were many scuffles and incidents between Germany and the U.S. because of this, and at this point it was inevitable we would become involved, it was just a matter of when.

If you try to speak french, even if it's broken, they will be a lot less hostile, and will try to speak with you. if you try to speak english with them, the vast majority of people wont even try to understand what you want to say. Some people (read: Americans) see this as rudeness, but i wonder what their reaction would be if somebody was asking them something in French in their country.

The whole bashing back and forth between each other is more so like two brothers picking on one another. It's just what countries do that have similar revolution times.

I think before threads of this type can become really informative, there needs to be a greater variety of people here. What what I can tell, there is a large vocal majority, and a smaller, very silent minority. Or maybe there is just a large majority and VERY small minority. On topic, here in the US, the basing is almost ALWAYS playful. Jokes involving any other person/country for surrender are amusing because of our history. When you consider that the beginning of this nation involved the exact opposite of surrender, it makes more sense. We still poke fun at and somewhat look down on figures who give up, or at least we did.(not to turn this into a debate about our once heavily held ideas).

Proving the point why you silly people are ignorant. Europeans in particular presume to know anything about American culture and just in reality are incredibly retarded. Congratulations.

They're hostile to everyone that doesnt even attempt to speak french in France. Most americans dont understand this concept. Since 99% of them couldnt even make a basic sentence in any non-english language.

Most people are quite polite and happy to have tourism.

Nothing against france, but sorry this is ridicously rude. Everyone knows english, how the fuck is someone supposed to know french? When I see tourists I don't care what language they speak, I'm always nice to them and give them directions, even if I have to use hand signals. Also it's not the same to ask for directions in french on usa than on english in france, though I understand your point. Difference is anyone from latin america and most likely asia will have english as the common language with french.

So if I'm going on vacation to Europe and plan to visit the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, and and Italy then I should learn five different languages before travelling? Funny how the French are the only ones that think we should learn their language before travelling to their country for a short vacation. That's what's called arrogance.
