Look, in the way that it was brought forward, the word "envy" can be replaced with the word "want" or something. The negative connotation is unimportant because it's a human problem. The fact that nobody should envy anybody is irrelevant - the fact is that they inevitably be envious provided that there are things they want.

The only bigger assholes outside of France french people are Quebec french people. I hope they leave Canada for good as they are just a bunch of whining liberal wastes of money. We're keeping Montreal though.
The reason people dislike France french people so much is because they are cowards and didn't even try to put up a fight against the Germans in WW2.

Americans envy the French in every way possible No, it really can't. In either context, it doesn't make sense.
This whole thing was started because of you jumping on a guy who questioned that original response. You're the aggressor.

Lol @ Europeans saying what Americans think about other Europeans? Wtf?
France has had about....oh idk a few millenium to develop a strong culture, certainly a stronger culture than Americans have. I have no idea what all this about us hating French people or whatever silliness people are posting.

A sad statement about your historical knowledge. And why is there so much canadian hate in this thread?

Can't we all agree that everybody bashes on every country even their own! I honestly only think America gets a little more "special" treatment because we are a global leader and have made some questionable decisions withing the last decade. But i can guarantee theres not a single country that doesn't get made fun of, hell even Switzerland gets made fun of for not doing anything.

They were overrun/lost in ww1, ww2, algerie and vietnam. Thats where the cowardness jokes come from.
Tourists have bad experiences when the french refuse to speak english to non-french-speakers.

Show me a nation that dosent have some kind of foul banter going on with another nation... Finnish call swedish males 100% gay even tho we know that they are still reproducing(for much of our surprise.) It is mostly fun and harmless banter thats coming from both sides of the border and there is really nothing you can do about it. Even if you did proof that french are nothing like what is said about them, a new joke would arise till you run out of possible combinations of english words.
Personally i think that people shouldnt really care about this kind of "humor," it may be in a bad taste and uncalled for, but it is still *joking,* as in not to be taken seriously.

its interesting that the person saying people should envy France is embodying the very stereotype, arrogant nationalist, that turns so many people off from that country.
So you went site seeing and saw cute girls (the examples Jibba did not address, man). I'm sure that experience has been had in literally every country at least once. The world is a pretty cool looking place overall. And girls with accents are cute. That's not a reason to envy France
|
I don't think the French bashing is based on envy. French people saying that is the same as when we Americans claimed the terrorists hated us for our freedoms, just a ridiculous claim to tar our enemy while making us feel good about ourselves at the same time.
People hate on the French for the same reasons any group is picked on. First because it makes us feel better about ourselves to hate an others. Second, because the jokes can be funny. Third because we can be idiots sometimes.

Reading through this thread I think I can conclude that US bashing is MUCH MUCH worse than any "French bashing" that happens in the US
