One thing I didn't consider about the region-lock rules: does anyone know how this applies to Hong Kong?
In the past, Hong Kong players have sort of been "ok" for both CN and SEA region teams. When determining player limits is SEA or CN considered their home region?

SEA is split now, no? TW/HK are in one league with Vietnam and other inferiors in other league.

I think that the upgrade really wouldn't be that much. Cool is more adaptable and better than Corn, yes, but also older and seems maxed out. I feel like Cool still hasn't performed up to his hype, which is partly because he has an awesome name.

I guess it's more that my opinion of Corn is booty
And I don't mean treasure

I swear hotshot makes the most retarded personnel decisions. So many good midlaners in europe and korea up for grabs??? Keep LiNK!

Link is fine, CLG just cant expect him to carry.

I think that is a problem when talking about that role.

And then you just think about NA which has Pobelter as undisputed #1 American midlaner and something is wrong. Link is fine, Monte said it in SI: "Link will never be a carry, he just will farm and lead CLG after it". His main problem is expectations around him, if he can dedicate himself to game, i don't see a problem.
And then you think about CLG in general which is shaping up now - you have probably best free NA toplane talent who is going to play his 5th LCS split and duolane which is capable of fighting everyone straight up, so they compliment each other + they're not going to suck in laneswaps, because, you know, CLG was completely okay with that scenario last seasons.
They just need stable jungler with arguably bigger toplane focus, leave Link and Rush Hour alone and play from it. But again, we don't know what is going to be meta, so hard to really predict something.

MUH EU MIDLANE FACTORY Who is better midlaner than Link in EU as free agent now, go. And Korea has Fly/Nagne as top-3 midlaners now, lol, clearly way better. Noone will grab Kuro, Ambition might retire, CoCo is just Flame of midlane and dade can't shotcall without knowing language at least slightly fluent, even Lustboy going to shotcall for TSM only after ~half a year in America.

Only real problem with Cool in Starhorn is that he was primary carry in OMG and Uzi is undisputed carry of Royal Club for 2 years, can you see him fighting his playstyle?

Explains a few things, especially why Coast took Jesiz. Impaler made it a condition that Jesiz comes with him. LOD is a good guy, wish him good luck.

I could name a few, but it doesnt even matter who is free agent right now. CLG had time since the NA playoffs to look for new players. They could have gotten someone who was free at that time, for example Nukeduck. Also they should have the means to aquire someone from another team, just like they did with Zion. There were surely plenty of options within the post-season chaos if they had just tried.

We don't even know yet, will Nukeduck be unbanned + not everyone wishes to go to NA, guys like Tabzz is strongly against it, for example. Who could they get? Like, seriously, free agent. Kerp, who is nothing more than fantasy points farming machine? Jesiz? Uuuh, Alex Ich? God, help me in remembering more.
EU factory hadn't provided legit midlaners since Bjergsen and nukeduck's stint, ofc there are laning beasts like PoE, who we hadn't seen against serious competition at all but even in Challenger scene they weren't particularly impressive 24/7, Overpow went from being main hope for bright days to worst midlaner in LCS in 4 months, Tabzz switched, nukeduck got banned and Bjergsen went to NA and other top horses like xPeke/Froggen/Alex were still on top. + CLG will have tryouts for 1,5 weeks more it seems, i don't think that Yusui will participate, Pobelter/LOD are likely tryouts, but you know, i'm not a fan of having Zion, Pobelter and unknown NA jungler in same time, too much hit or miss. Same with LOD. Only reasonable tryout is mancloud probably, but i hadn't seen much of him since bunch of Ahri games in CA and getting thrown for one-Orianna-pony Keane is kinda bad. Also Monte implied on SI that Pobelter/Helios/Altec trio wants to stay together.
Only thing i'm salty though, that CLG didn't poach Spirit/Swift. Well, at least, OGN will have their bright stars and not only Faker/ohQ/CptJack.
Roflmao, finished LOD message and there are CLG/Dignitas logos, Coast wtf :D Outside of CLG, there are no real options for him in LCS Spring it seems from top of my head, hope he succeeds in future.

Again, the "right now" point is invalid because they had time since forever, the "free agent" point is invalid because everyone gets people from other teams in the off-season. Zion was also not a free agent when CLG talked to him. You are using a strawman.
Since you brought Pobelter up, if there was any way they could get him they should. Cant agree with how you just put him as a tryout next to LOD. There is no way Link is even close to him.

1. He's not fine. His work ethics is fucking terrible.
2. You don't expect him to carry every game, but the way CLG works, the mid needs to have carry potential. Top won't ever have that because no one gives a shit about top in CLG, and the uzi 1v5 strat is way too one-dimensional to carry them through a whole year. Every year since they acquired doublelift they tried that and it's just a dead horse. Their mid has to be good enough to take advantage of any amount of overextension the other team does to shut down doublelift and carry the game from there, and to do that he has to be at least on par with the guy you're laning against.
Before nid was reworked Link was able to do so on at least 2 champions, and he was well insulated from bans because dexter, double, and aphromoo can all draw them. But while everyone is trying to improving Link was on the hearthstone grind and now he's voyboy tier.

The way LOL works the mid needs to have carry potential. Even if your team is Uzi + Flame your mid needs to be able to carry if the enemy is ignoring you and dedicating resources elsewhere. Its suicide to have a nonfactor in midlane, even Corn hit great Ori ults, and got huge on Ryze when he got space.

If you have uzi + flame it's alright for the mid to just not lose, and I'm not saying link is like an amateur lvl mid and just lose every lane, but it's clg and therefore you can expect the jungler to be around doublelift all the time and top losing level and farm and receiving no roam and no jungle presence. I don't care if it's gogoing top, the top lane is gonna lose playing with that team, 100%.
So you need someone to provide the backup carry and draw threats away from doublelift in teamfights and Link just ain't that guy anymore.

I agree, it doesn't matter who's a freeagent right now. CLG's name could easily attract some mids who are under contract if clg's willing to pay the transferfee.

I'm tempted to say neither?
Even prior to region-locking there was never a primarily-HK roster participating in the GPL proper. Even HKA.P & HKA.M were made up of primarily/entirely TW rosters, just that they're under the HKE org. The only blurry part was for the regional qualifications since there were three: CN, SEA and 台港澳 (TW HK Macau).
Whatever the case HK is definitely not part of SEA. Either CN or some other weird TW/HK/Macau exception thingy.

I mean, if they are having Thinkcard/Xmithie/Inori tryout, I think they should try out some of the midlaners from those teams as well. I think CLG should be open to all options at this point, even if it means taking a gamble on some challenger jungle/mid combo because honestly, it can't get worse than one game away from relegation against the worst NACS team.
But I think you're right, CLG will probably take the safest option and go for Xmithie and Link, and I really don't have high hopes for that team.
