Reading the comments and can't believe clg's manager is actually advising Seraph to overstay his Visa to finish superweek and that the immigration bureau would let him come back no problem because it will be his first penalty lol.

Seraph potentially out next week because of visa

Trouble isn't coming alone.
Seems like Kelby is almost certain that CLG can't get bye in quarterfinals, so i won't be surprised if they sandbag a lot and finish season with glorious 0-8.

Here's an ongamer article about the LMQ situation. It sheds some more light on what's happening. http://www.ongamers.com/articles/report-the-story-behind-the-lmq-ownership-dispute/1100-2003/

Personally I feel this is the second case of the way Riot handles the LCS team situation getting very murky. The last case of Velocity -> EG kind of got brushed over due to the fact that Velocity weren't really loved and the EG players have a large fanbase. If you look at what actually happened there I can't help but feel it was something that shouldn't be allowed to happen. At the end of the day someone needs to protect the players. Hopefully in this case Riot does what's best for the players regardless of who has a better "claim". We have hardly any information to make such a judgement on the outside but Riot has the tools to find out. Really sucks for them to have this so close to playoffs.

I was under the impression that the EG/ALL situation works because gtrsrs owns the team and EG is just a named partner. If I'm wrong, gtrsrs, feel free to correct me.

Believe EG is the title sponsor and doesn't own the team. I was talking more about how all the velocity players get sacced and replaced by a completely different team without anyone really caring.

Leagues contract with teams who contract with players. In a healthy system, the players are protected by their contracts and then further protected by their player's union. We have no player's union in League, yet, so the players can only hope their contracts offer them some protection in this case. As much as Riot should do "what's best for the players", they similarly have to prevent cases where the players decide to jettison their team/sponsor, because they get a better deal from someone else. At the end of the day, for legal reasons, Riot needs to default to either the teams or the players and they choose the teams, because that's what a healthy league needs to do. Just need that players union ASAP.

I don't believe it's possible to form any kind of player union for League since Riot IS league of legends, a union has no real power when it's dealing with a single entity that doesn't even require the people you represent. A player union for esports in general would be really amazing though.

The relationship between Riot and the players in LCS is not greatly different than that between pro sports players and their respective leagues. Each league (in America, at least) is a legally excepted monopoly.

The difference is pro sports leagues make all their money effectively off of the players through various fees spawned by the willingness of spectators and fans to watch these players.

Riot makes all their money selling skins and then hires dudes to play in their circus.

The only part of esports that is profitable is the part where you can get more people into the part of the game that actually makes money

Even if that were the case as you say, the same thing would apply regardless. If LCS is such a big marketing machine for Riot to get more people to play their game, then they still get a lot of value out of the LCS. The rest doesn't matter for a company.

Honestly, i meant that they use players, names and careers to make real moneys.
Planes and shops don't lie.
No reason to mean it again, that LACE and ACE blow, especially first one.

To be fair it's not like Korea got it down quickly, think about how long since the start of BW broadcasts on ongamenet before the CJs, SKTs and KTs stepped in. Before that Korea had the standard esports sponsors of primarily tech companies like AMD.

Well, CJ came into scene later than telecoms, but still, 8 years already.
And KT are going hard since start, damn. 15 years, time is fast.

But it's not more about sponsors actually, it's more about Western scene inability of making money as their Eastern counterparts.

EG makes money, lots of money. Filthy filthy EG money. And alliance also makes lots of totes not EG money.

Besides that yeah the west sucks. EG is the only organisation in the world that can run a mile with an SC2 player whose accomplishments are 4th at an MLG with no Koreans and a BW WCG AM.

TSM and crs also seem to be doing alright, CLG has the POTENTIAL (tm) to do well but they're very good at burning POTENTIAL (tm) money with very little brand building effort that doesn't feature travis or aphromoo's stream.
