Team games have a very different aspect, especially when that team is representing a city. Yeah lets compare esports crowds to golf, tennis and poker crowds... Seriously you are comparing rich white man games to esports? An esports crowd is much closer to a football crowd than a golf one. Poker is a 'rich white man' game? It's not about the makeup of the crowd, it's about the style of competition and the home town team effect. Many people watch team sports solely because they root for their hometown team. Many people watch Starcraft because they love the game no matter who is playing. the rich white man game is more about golf and tennis. Many people also watch certain players because they are their favorite players or because they play on their favorite team. They have an emotional connection to the players and teams. Its called being a fan. Some are fans of the game, others have more specific views and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't get me wrong.. I boo opposing teams. Not as much as many of my PSU/Pittsburgh counterparts, but I do. I don't boo SC players. There are some I cheer for more, but I don't have a stake in who wins or loses to a point that I feel a negative emotional reaction when somebody loses. I'm mostly there because I love the game. Team sports are different.. I hate the Baltimore Ravens. I want them to lose. I think a large portion of the community has the same feeling which is why you see a negative reaction toward booing. We're in this together so to speak I guess. I hate skt1. i want them to lose :3. I hate the Yankees, I hate the Dodgers, I hate the Pirates in sports. I hate Huk, I hate Ranged, I hate TheBest, I hate Choya, I hate Husky and I dislike JP. Yeah I said it, I don't like Huk and I also don't like how if you dislike a TL member publicly you get temp banned. Let people have their opinions, it's this love hate thing we got that makes sports like baseball and football so compelling. It's RIVALRIES that will keep esports drama filled and interesting. I'd even go as far as hating Select just because he has no emotions and frankly makes for boring interviews. And HATE is a strong word, I don't wish death I just dislike them a bit more than normal.
You can hate/dislike people all you want, and you can express that too, you just can bash on them with no justification. Posting 'HUK SUXXXXXXXX' will get you banned. Posting 'I think Huk's bad because he does....' will not.

If anything it's improving the thread by leaps and bounds. This whole "announcing announcements" crap has run it's course already. Now it's just plain annoying.

Exactly! on the making sports compelling thing. I mean when Penn State plays Northwestern, yeah I'm booing them, but its nothing like when we play Michigan or Ohio State. Thats a whole new level. Thats why I was camping outside the stadium for a week before the game. If people put this kinda personal investment into esports, no doubt will it grow like crazy.

Contracts can be negotiated and buyouts happen all the time.
