That's because SaSe said he when he went over to China.

I think the biggest thing is that there are a small group of chinese players (xiaot, lovecd, xigua etc.) that are at a much much higher level than everyone else.

You've gotta remember most of them haven't been playing SC2 for more than a few months.

And many of the players in this tournament were very active in the WC3 scene relatively recently.

I thought all the top Chinese players have been playing on Korea for ages now.

Not all of them. Looking at the list, I'd say maybe Loner, Lovecd, LoveTT, F91, XiGua, and a few others. Don't think Lovecd has any serious RTS background, actually, though his brother (Sky) is a WC3 beast.

Lovecd was supposedly really good at WC3. But he never had the drive/desire/time to take it seriously and go pro.

God damnit Orb, just because it's an X doesn't mean it's pronounced like Xylophone. Read your chat and let me stop cringing every time you say XiGua, please!

(Overall though, props for casting all this, especially those endless tiebreakers.)

If skill is dropping, that's usually not a good sign for a pro-scene, or a scene in general. Perhaps this is a signal for the demise of SC 2 in China? The game can't be seeing a lot of play, given that the Chinese server has all of 270,000 players, which is abysmal relative to the numbers you'd expect to see from China, and it doesn't seem to be growing anymore.

I think the issue is we got a bit spoiled with StarsWar and saw the best of the best. Like i said before the problem seems to be the Top 10 players are awesome, but the skill dropoff is very large after that.

The Stars Wars tournament had a Chinese qualifier and then we only saw the best of the best. This is still early-ish on in the tournament. They definitely have the ability to perform, i just hope the motivation and money is in it for them

The StarsWar tournament only had six Chinese players, all of whom had to play through some pretty long, grueling qualifiers to get there. They were the "cream of the crop," so to speak, and among those six, I would say that only three of them (xiaOt, Lovecd, LoveTT -- aka, the Protoss players) were any good - and by "good", I mean potentially GSL-quality players. xiaOt impressed me the most; he was easily Code A level at the time -- maybe even low- to mid-Code S level. I am still depressed at the thought of his retirement. Meanwhile, LoveTT and Lovecd both didn't impress me that much, but I think if they can clean up their play a bit, they could make Code A.

XiGua has been getting a lot of hype lately. I don't think he's better than Moon though, to be honest. He's definitely not as impressive as Sen, IMHO.
