I come from Niagara Falls, Canada, once home to the Niagara Falls Flyers, the farm team for the Boston Bruins. As such, there are a lot of Boston Bruins fans here in 'the Falls.' These people have been fans since the days of Bobby Orr and even earlier.

I too, am part of that tradition. My loyalties have shifted slightly throughout my life (especially after Raycroft's second season, ugh), but now that this Boston team under the towering watch of Zdeno Chara, the skillful wisdom of Mark Recchi, and the stalwart defense of Tim Thomas is finally doing well. And what happens? Well, the rest of Canada is shitting all over a team that could be argued to be more 'Canadian' than the Vancouver Canucks, and practically no one notices or cares.

The "Fans":[image loading]Let me start with the rabid bandwagon that is the Vancouver Canuck fan base. Looking at the image you can see a bunch of people who either don't understand or have never played hockey in their lives, cheering for a team because they are currently in the spotlight, and being a fan is in vogue. Even worse is the multitude of people across the country, cheering for a team simply because they are 'Canadian.' There is no basis to their fandom other than that. A quick peruse of my Facebook last night showed a plethora of Vancouver-favored comments from people whom I've never known to like the team or even hockey in general.

Kevin Bieksa's parents were mobbed and showered with beer when they went to Vancouver to watch their son play for Boston. The fans have no respect either. Needless to say, they haven't been back.

The Announcers:
The most egregious offense that I have noticed so far is the announcing of the games. The CBC has been sucking so much Vancouver dick it is appalling. They can do no wrong, despite massive evidence to the contrary, and Boston is entirely fallible in their eyes. During last night's game I witnessed it time and time again, play after play, where Craig Simpson claimed that Vancouver was 'still in this game' not 3 seconds before Boston scored their 4th goal in 4 minutes and 14 seconds in the FIRST PERIOD. Later in the game Craig would go on to talk about how Vancouver player Chris Higgins, who was smashed in a double-hit by Dennis Siedenberg and Brad Marchand, somehow 'hit Siedenberg' and hurt him. I have never seen more obvious evidence of a self-selection bias. You could not find a positive comment about Boston if you asked any of them, except of course from people like Don Cherry or Mark Messier, who was interviewed between periods.

More hockey-wise and knowledgeable Vancouver fans suck on their most recent humiliation.

The bias towards Vancouver is so obvious in the fact that Vancouver's performance in this series has been far from good. Look at the scores:+ Show Spoiler +

Game 1: 0-0 until 24 seconds left.
Game 2: 2-2 tie with an overtime win.
Game 3: 8-1 Boston win.
Game 4: 4-0 shutout in Boston.
Game 5: 2-0 Vancouver win.
Game 6: 5-2 Boston win. (4-0 for two periods)

Boston has so far out-scored Vancouver 19-9 (more than 2:1) in six games. Roberto Luongo has played nothing short of horrible, and people have been talking about his being in contention for the Con Smithe trophy. If anything, last night's performance knocked him out of there for good. The fans and announcers continue to see Vancouver as the better team, and they continue to ignore their every fault. Vancouver just barely won the first two games, which just as easily could have gone Boston's way.

I have news for you. Regardless of what the fans and announcers may think, the Vancouver Canucks are scared of tomorrow night's game. They wanted to put it away before Luongo finally blew a game at home, and he's starting the next game. Boston is hot, Boston is good, and Boston has been waiting to win at the Rogers Centre.

I hope this isn't completely serious lol...

But yeah, I'm guilty of bandwagoning on the last Canadian team, plus Boston beat Montreal. Suck it Bruins, Canucks got this ez.

You have got to be fucking kidding me. You're off in space. Read the article that mathershop just posted.

Since that article, there has already been the Luongo misquote that the media has been throwing all over the place, and now this brutal hit on Raymond.

The newest quote, from NHL.com, currently being quoted all over the news:

"Raymond suffered the injury (a broken spine, 6 months out, for those who don't know) on the game's first shift, when he got tangled with Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk. Raymond was bent at the waist when he fell back-side first into the boards."

Has anyone watched that replay? At what point did he fall into the boards? I know he certainly fell to the ground after his SPINE WAS BROKEN. Funny how there is never any mention of a Boston player being involved in hitting him into the boards, in a vulnerable way, with enough force to break his spine.

Fucking troll OP.

Also, if you read any globe and mail article, you see in the up-vote and down-vote comments that the anti-Canucks comments are always voted waaaay up, as are the pro-Boston votes. You're delusional if you think Canada is behind Vancouver.

Funniest part about this is that THERE WAS NO PENALTY FOR THIS.
While they gave a 5 minute and 4 game suspension to Rome for hitting Horton in the cleanest hit (only reason it was valid was cause of less than a second late after he passed the puck), and Horton was out of the hospital THAT SAME DAY. Talk about bias..

Please dont compare two players getting tangled up fighting for the puck with a blatant attempt to injure.

Vancouver fans are easily the most obnoxious and ignorant in the league.

So, the best way to respond to someone being biased is to be bias yourself? Way to go.

Let's use facts instead of random feelings, shall we? For the regular season:

Vancouver took the President's Trophy.
Boston beat Vancouver 3-1 in the only game they played.
Vancouver has one of the strongest win rates at home. Boston is very weak on the road.
Boston has a great 5 on 5 game. Unfortunately, most of the games in Vancouver have been laden with penalties. Vancouver outplays Boston on penalties.

Boston has not been able to beat Vancouver on home ice in the playoffs and that's where the last game is. I think Vancouver has a much better chance to win.

Finally, you don't know much about Canadian culture and hockey if you are accusing Canadian fans of just jumping on a ban wagon.
Write your own song!

Get away with? ROFL? It should have only been an interference call. The boarding major was just because Max got hurt and sorry, but anywhere else on the ice Max doesnt hurt.

However, when a player targets the head of someone that gave up possession of the puck over a second before they'll get suspended no matter where they are on the ice. Goons like Rome have no place in hockey because they have no respect. "I'd throw the same hit again".

Chara pushed the guy into the most dangerous spot in the rink and almost killed the guy.
Guess for how many games he got suspended for an attempted homicide? 0.

Not only that, but Rome came off the ice with his skates, meaning he was aiming high.

Like you aren't? lol.

I'm not a fan of either, but it's quite obvious that you have lost all logical thought processes and are now acting like the obnoxious and ignorant fan you claim others to be. Grow up.

1) How can Boston be argued to be more Canadian than Vancouver? The teams have around the same amount of Canadian players. They both have European captains. Their star players are a mixture of Canadian, European and American. You're just saying shit to try to make a point.

2) You talk about how Vancouver has a lot of bandwagon fans (which you say after talking about how you didn't support Boston when they were doing poorly, but do now that they're doing well). Guess what? So does Boston. Lots of people hate Vancouver, so they cheer for Boston. You make it sound as though everyone cheers for Vancouver just because they're Canadian. That's not how things work. Incidentally, your evidence of people not knowing anything about hockey is... sitting there? Seriously? You know you're REALLY reaching when that's the best you can come up with.

3) CBC talks about how great Vancouver and Luongo are, but don't say anything good about Boston. Yeah, that's why everyone on there is constantly talking about how well Thomas is doing, but every time Luongo gets scored on they show a shot of Schneider and talk about how poorly Luongo's playing. Nevermind the fact that Luongo has 4 shutouts this season. Nevermind how Thomas got scored on 19 times against Tampa Bay; nobody ever brings that up.

4) "During last night's game I witnessed it time and time again, play after play, where Craig Simpson claimed that Vancouver was 'still in this game' not 3 seconds before Boston scored their 4th goal in 4 minutes and 14 seconds in the FIRST PERIOD." He said it time and time again 3 seconds before Boston scored? That makes sense. Have you ever watched hockey before? Do you think a commentator is going to say "Oh, they're down 3-0 with two and a half periods left, this game is over"? No, that's not going to happen, and it reflects how ridiculously biased you are that you seem to think that a game's over when your team is up 3-0.

5) I love how when listing the games, you provide asterisk notes when Vancouver wins, but when Boston wins, it's just "Boston wins" or "Shutout in Boston" or "(4-0 for two periods)". Wow, that's very fair and unbiased of you! Hey, guess what? Boston have scored two goals in Vancouver and have been shutout twice. But no, you don't mention that; it's just "Boston are so great and Vancouver are scared and Boston's going to win."

I think that this sums up your post quite nicely: "I have never seen more obvious evidence of a self-selection bias." Well said.

I will argue that Boston are, and surprisingly they get away with all the shit they do..

Obnoxious and Ignorant.

Vancouver fan spotted.

Like you aren't? lol.

I'm not a fan of either, but it's quite obvious that you have lost all logical thought processes and are now acting like the obnoxious and ignorant fan you claim others to be. Grow up.

This thread needs to be locked, it serves no purpose.

Are you the guy that just goes around posting in topics acting like a condescending asshole the entire time? Thanks for contributing, you added a lot.

Never mind. I looked at your post history and that is actually what you are. Grow up.

Boston beat Montreal so I am cheering for them ^^
Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider!

Give the bandwagoners a break, a Canadian team (ie a team situated in a Canadian city) hasn't won the cup for a while and they're still high on the Olympics.
