People have been calling him fake BoxeR (aka EllenPage, aka Clare). In the GSL interview he was asked what he would change his new name to when blizzard allows the name change soon, and that people have been calling him Foxer/Fauxer and he would be glad to change his name to something that the fans really want.
obviously faux is pronounced Foe, but if we are going to call him foxer, it will make more sense if it is spelled Fauxer (but pronounced foxer), it's a hybrid of french and english, we can pronounce it however we want -We just made the damned word up

Too bad Faux is not pronounced the same as Fox, and thus changes how Fauxer is pronounced and distances it further from what it's meant to be similar to(Boxer)

Yeah, because Fauxer means fake boxer right? Your point has no point. I vote for FoxeR.
Fauxer is quite possibly the worst looking ID i've ever seen, almost as bad as BabyByeBye.
It doesn't look bad. It's French! Have some class. FauxeR is so much more clever than "FoxeR".
Foxer is too simple and easy and boring. Faux as in fake/imitation. Just pronounce it like "Foxer" but spell it like FauxeR and let it be funnier that way! lighten up

Fauxer is fairly pretentious and only works if you don't know how to pronounce faux. People reading it will get the wrong idea. Foxer (or FoxeR) on the other hand is obvious and can still be read as a tribute to BoxeR. I doubt the kid's gonna go for the former.
wtf? Fake boxer was that protoss who had a lot of reps in the iccup thread. Never knew that. Nice to hear that hes making a name for himself, though not just in skill .
fauxer has class in the same way things you buy on the home shopping network have class and it's smart in the same way big bang theory is smart comedy. in other words it's trite and obvious and caters to people who don't actually possess the named qualities.

Faux on it's own and in french is pronounced "foh" but if you just read "fauxer" most people would initially read it as "foxer" anyway.
No they wouldn't. Anyone with an understanding of the English language and knowing how "Faux" is pronounced in French would read it out loud as foh-er.
W/e last post about this, just glad the majority agrees with how dumb fauxer is.
Besides the fact that EllenPage is mad hot it's not really a good progaming name. Foxer doesn't really portray the fakeness as good as FauxeR does considering it's meaning.

This man knows his shit. Totally agree, the pronunciation doesn't matter cause we made the word up - it just has a clever pun in it.
While Fauxer is a tiny bit more clever, it tries too hard to shoehorn the Faux into it. Disregarding the pronunciation just to have faux in it tries too hard.

So basically your argument is that he should name himself after an ugly written pun and then pronounce it in a way that is different from the word it is based on just so that it will fit with the original point. Instead of just using the name that looks better and sounds the same.

Foxer has wit?
More than fauxer...
(F)ake B(oxer) vs a miserable pun. I don't have anything against puns, but it's so... obvious... it's not funny... It's not clever. If a halfwit could come up with something, it isn't witty, by definition.

Fauxer isn't witty when you have to shoehorn it in by mispronouncing it.

Typically when you create a portmanteau you pronounce the component parts the way they're supposed to be pronounced. Otherwise it's clumsy. Just saying.
Another reason I like FoxeR is because it has a meaning to us but is also open to other interpretations. It isn't really restricted to being a silly joke.
Faux as Fox has a long history through Faux News, the US news channel. Foxer just looks stupid, because it has no connotations of being fake without knowing the history behind it. Fauxer is immediately obvious to (most people) that it's something to do with being fake.
It's so obvious because you use "faux" in everyday language?
Or you just don't like it because it's complicated and french?
I honestly thought people on TL were better than this. I'm outright disappointed.
No, the name has to be simple and easy for anyone to invent. Foxer isn't any more of a word than Fauxer. Except one makes an awesome leap into having meaning within meaning.

I'd rather be simple than incorrect. There is no relation to Boxer with Fauxer. Other than the -er ending. What is Fauxer? Or right False-er. It doesn't make sense and its a mutation of a french word to fit a pun. You being over dramatic because you think Fauxer is witty when it is not.

To all the people saying that Fauxer is the only way to mean "fake boxer" I would like to point out that there is no way to know that the word Fauxer comes from boxer and the same is true for Foxer. Fauxer by itself reads more like Faker.
I like Foxer more because the name works with or without the boxer reference. His play focuses on highly mobile army compositions that could be described as "agile" like a fox. His rax placement is also kinda sneaky. I don't want to support someone who wants to be like boxer, I want to support someone who wants to be better than boxer.
I don't like Fauxer because it looks awkward and I would pronounce it like "Fawkser." Maybe the play on words is cute, but I don't think the name stands as well as Foxer.
It is interesting to me that it is so evenly split between the two options and that people have very strong opinions about which name is the "right" one. Guess we'll see what he decides. Regardless of what he calls himself, I love his attitude and enthusiasm and will cheer him on in the future.

Yes because Koreans all know French so they are totally going to get that. By the way faux is a French word, so that's another reason not to use that name because the French are horrible.

Well, I totally agree that he changes his name for something less confusing, but I think he should choose it himself, as a gamer nickname represents your identity...
Even though he wants to please the fans, a nickname should be chosen by yourself, especially at a programer level. In my opinion at least.
edit: Fixed many typos... Damn I suck at typing on a touch screen...
I think either is fine. I am leaning toward foxer now though.
-Less confusing pronunciation (Pronouncing it "right" would be wrong, youd almost have to explain the reference everytime. Keep in mind this is a global audience too.) -Fox(animal) is a cool mental image. Kind of fits his style too imo. -Faux describes the imposter factor well, but almost sounds insulting (so does "Fake"). But at least if you tie the image to a fox, it could be more like sneaky and tricky.
I hope he's happy with it, though. Between Clare and Ellenpage, I feel like deep down, he wants a girl name though.

-_- it's a known fact that he actually considers it yes
A. Puns are not really terribly clever. Fauxer forces a strangled chuckle, if that. If you're still laughing now you should consult your physician.
B. A first-time reader who mispronounces the faux part of Fauxer is more likely to say "Forkser", "Forzer", or "Felkser".
C. Foxer is generated by taking the F from Fake and replacing the B of Boxer. The fox doesn't turn up until after the fact, and in Korean not at all because their word for fox is "yeou".
D. By using that scheme of word-generation Faux Boxer also becomes Foxer. So do False Boxer, Fictitious Boxer, Fabricated Boxer, and Fraudulent Boxer. Fauxer is no better or worse than Falkser, Fixer, Fab Sir, Frau Xer, etc.
E. Phony Boxer could become Phoxer. Twice better than Fauxer, but still a beastly moniker.
I think Fauxer is pretty clever. I definitely think he needs to change his name to something though. Foxer or Fauxer would work, I just like Fauxer better.
really foxer was the best name you guys could think of? did the forum on gom get closed because of people wanting gracxer and foxer and i know you think your funny and LOL but no. come up with real suggestions. + Show Spoiler +
Fauxer is my favorite just because its clever. ShadowBoxer is pretty ballin too but unfortunately nobody is going to support that one and it appears that it's gonna end up being Foxer anyways.

As for my suggestion, due to his situation, I would say a variation of the name Bean (main character of the book Ender's Shadow). I don't know if people will get my thought process but he reminds me of Bean, because in the book Bean is compared to a prodigy (omfg spoilers) named Ender, and in the story he says something along the lines of "I do not want to be compared to him (Ender), I want to succeed by my own way."
After looking through the thread and thinking about it, the three names i like the best are TheApprentice, ShadowBoxer, and Foxer (but only because my last name is fox )
I dont think his name should be something that implies he's fake, he should just find a name he likes that isnt lame and just stick with it. Maybe something simple like "Fighter" lol
I don't get Foxer at all. If you really want him to be known as fake boxer, then Fauxer will lead anyone down the right thought process. (Fauxer = fake something... hum... fake what.... oh, there is a famous guy called BOXER!)
Foxer doesn't make me think at all, as someone who doesn't know him, I would just think his name is Foxer (maybe someone cunning), and have no relation to Boxer whatsoever.
EllenPage all the way! It will give her boost in her career like never before! But if I must choose I say Fauxer, for it has the word fake within the ID.
How is EllenPage not an option? It's such an awesome and badass name for a progamer. Every time he loses I'm gonna be like, "Do you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!"

BoxeR/Ellenpage has had an obsession with having his gaming ID being named after a female. His account on broodwar was "Clare" and now "EllenPage"...So, I don't know what his deal is lol But, naming yourself after BoxeR is really clever considering how beast he is. If anything, If I was as good as him; I'd try to make a name for myself using a better named account.
I didn't know that Foxer referred to this fake Boxer guy until I read it in this thread.
If you don't know the history behind him, you definitely won't think that Foxer = Fake Boxer, you'll think Foxer = one who foxes, guaranteed.
I'd probably vote it over Fauxer, but don't kid yourself; first time people see the ID their mind's eye will immediately see this:
If we're going for the fox angle here, then by all means. But if you want to mix the words Fake + BoxeR, why not do it in a way that doesn't suggest foxes?
FakeR, FakexeR, FaxeR, FakxeR all combine Fake + BoxeR better than FoxeR does.

I really don't understand this mindset. Why can't people here be satisfied with a name we know means Fake Boxer? Why does the name have to be an attempt to hammer it into the minds of everyone who hears it? The fact that FoxeR has other interpretations is a good thing, in my opinion. And I've already written about all the other reasons why I think it is a better name.
Anyway, is anyone doing a real translation of his FoxeR interview?
Best thing about this guy is that like all of his IDs aside from Boxer have been female related. Clare[Shield], Rex.IU (Girl who does the voice for the player names in GSL2), and EllenPage.
Lawl. But hey, he's got an account here on TL. Used to post in the ICCup thread in BW.

I dunno. What do you guys think.

Oh I know! I totally thought of that? And that would be really funny cause it would be like an inside joke that only people that really knew would get.
The only reason I didn't suggest it is it looks a little French.
I can't believe 'Foxer" is winning over 'Fauxer'. Just because faux is pronounced 'Fo' doesn't mean that Fauxer is pronounced 'Fo-er'. The letters A and U together usually make an "aw" sound in English anyway. Get over yourselves and vote for the clever one.

I really don't understand people who don't understand this mindset. People won't know it means fake boxer, because of the name suggesting something related to foxes. What is there not to understand?
You know what, it's really fucking cool that we have a fake boxer.. he should call himself evil boxer, like that from Street Fighter video games were there's a good Ryu which is quiet strong but there's an evil ryu that is much stronger.. please don't change name, I like you fake boxer!
just be Boxer! well ellenpage is a pretty cool name anyway...
If only I pretty verse in PS, I would create a scene of slayersboxer and boxer with the vader and luke skywalker revelation..
SlayerSBoxer: I am your father... Boxer: noooooo.........
i can kind of understand why people don't like the awkward pronounciation of fauxer, but people actually liking foxer is mystifying to me. Psoxer is where it's at.

The ArnC clan (aka Name) used to take IDs of famous progamers and make them their own, so it's not a coincidence...
Also, if it is really a choice between FoxeR and FauxeR, the former is better. What if this guy goes on to win the GSL? Is he really going to be remembered because his ID was a known ID, or because he outfoxed his opponents? Naming him FauxeR is just too one-dimensional IMO.

He was never on [ArnC], he was on Inter and Shield. Boxer[ArnC] was a fan nickname from earlier in the GSL.
TheFakeBoxer. I mean.. the "The" title is pretty cool, as seen by TLO, and he might as well consider it, as it's already his natural name. Everybody'll get it, even with capitalizations and everything aside.
