I've seen him play and he is awesome. Being in the oGs clan by itself already says something about his skill. He also defeated some well known SC2 players like FruitSeller and had some really long winning streaks in live cast matches.
Some of us expected that a gosu player like him would qualify for the GSL but rumor has it he got drafted for military service.

Nah, he's 21. He's been around BW for a few years now.

Doesn't have to be around 18. I'm sure that some koreans like Nal_Ra are NOT 18 and they are doing their military service. It seems it's more like 26-ish ?

Having not been to Korea I guessed based on what a friend of mine from there has said. Most take it early on so they can go to school afterward. Allows for that introspection time many end up wasting college dollars on. Also means you're actually ready for the world when you're done school.

Good stuff. Still early in the window of greatness. Though on reflection I peaked around 17. Of course that had more to do with no car or life I'd imagine
wow i didn't know he was up for military service... i remember i saw an early replay of his on blistering sands where he was playing vs a zerg who has doing ling baneling and some roaches and he was like, what you are making banes, why don't you check out how i insanely split marines - zerg got owned in the face
I was wondering what happened to him too, and didn't know the reason he didn't even try to qualify for GSL. He definitely would've been a favorite to win the GSL. Best of luck to him and hopefully he'll be able to play at a high level when hes done with his military service. He could try to apply for ACE, haha
I have somewhat good news! Inspired by plu.cn casting TheStC vs SKS replays before the all-star matches began today, i wandered over to playxp where the man himself revealed that he's done with his military service on 25 May 2011, which is sooner than I think most of us were anticipating!
I think he's doing his service right now? I'm not 100% sure on that though. It sounded like his duty type was one that actually lets him come back home every day, but he doesn't have much time and he's also not allowed to enter tournaments while he's still doing his army duty. I'm not too familiar with how it works though. He is still considered the best terran player by many of the Koreans in any case.

Yes, he actually has just over 6 months left in his service.
TheStC is awesome, I met on broodwar during the beta, I was in Op SeaClan @ USWest talking with some koreans about StarCraft 2, then TheStC[GnH] popped in the channel, apparently he is friends with some people in SeaClan ( not a surprise ), I hadn't heard of him before, or seen him play SC2, I met him and we talked a little about SC2, he then told me he was in oGs, sure enough next thing I know, I saw TheStC win something like 17+ games in a row on the korean KOTH stream (forget what its called right now)
This guy was probably the most consistent / amazing terran i've seen still, such a solid player. I'm sure once his army time is done he will be back to own SC2!

i'm pretty sure he still plays/practices a lot on his own, he just can't compete in tournaments

Yep, hes still sick good. Also very nice.
Wow, do you guys see him on the ladder often? I would love to see some recent replays of him. He was my favorite beta Terran, it sucks that he's all but disappeared recently. I haven't seen any replays of him for over a month.

if you don't mind slow-buffering vods with 3 or 4 ads between each game, you can still see him play on Gisado's recent vods over here.

When I click play a Korean message comes up and it tries to install something. What is it trying to install? I already have GOMPlayer.
Yeah, from what I can tell (so this might all be BS) it doesn't automatically detect the english version of the gom player. If you just run the installer you shouldn't have any problems afterward on either the English or Korean gom sites. I haven't found a way to skip straight to the 13th game in the series, so I'm just clicking to the end of each of the 1st 12 games. Takes a while but it's worth it for stc imo ^^

I can't wait for this! He is going to easily be one of the top players out there once his military service is over.
I think one of the most insane things I have seen him do was a wicked 4 pronged attack on metalopolis against another terran player. He dropped the main, 3rd, and 4th while pushing the front door of the second. He took out nearly 3/4 of the terran workers and only 1 of his drops didn't get away, and most of his push at the natural went virtually uncontested. My jaw hit the desk when I saw him do it. If military service wasn't knocking on the door, I would expect him to be challenging for best terran player in the world at the moment. And I see Jinro has already confirmed that he is, in fact, still good as hell :D
Also there is a game of him vs cool aka FruitDealer during one of those Gisado's KoTH tourneys. I watch that replay on Metalopolis from time to time because its so awesome. Pretty sick multitasking on TheSTC's part. Gonna be exciting when he comes back!!

Hmm I'm guessing he's gong-ik, (basically if you meet certain conditions, such as physical disability) you can exchange your military service for working in the public sector (such as in subway or the post office - gong-ik is literally "public good"). Generally the length of service is still the same, but I know there are also some other criteria to get a shortened 6 month service - such as if someone in the family is a 국가유공자, (decorated by the government).
In any case!! If he's stil a regular on Gisado, so check it out if you want to see his play! (I'm watching him right now on the November 25th cast, towards the end he is playing against some member of the slayers clan.
[edit] actually Gisado says that theSTC is the leading in wins on his KOTH cast for November.. so.. he's a lot more regular than I thought
Mods should feel free to delete this if it's considered necroing but I didn't feel I had enough to start a new thread.
Apparently oGsTheStC is playing again. He just stormed through the FXOpen invitational, never dropping a series. You can watch some vods of his games here:
He seemed a little rusty in a few of the early games (for example in game 1 against Sen) but boy did he fall back into rhythm fast. He was showing the same amazing play I remember. Macro style, mutli-pronged terran play full of aggression and harassment, but at the same time methodical with positioning, upgrades, production and man I just can't wait to see him in the GSL.
Part of the reason I wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone had any new info on his status. Is he done with his military stint and if he was playing fulltime again.
In GSL interviews people keep mentioning him as their practice partner and thanking him. I mean he's clearly around and follows/plays enough to be able to coach these guys and help them prepare for their matches. So if you have any more info, spill it already before I go crazy with anticipation (Yes I'm aware that I'm sounding like a fangirl, I'm not like this about any other player btw).
I was soo happy when i went onto sc2rep and saw replays of theSTC... I thought he wasnt supposed to be off military duty until may? Regardless, its awesome he's back. I can definitely see him challenging for best terran in the world in the near future.
Hes not rusty, he was never gone - hes just doing his military service, same as he has been for the last 1.5 years. He will be back to full time playing once he gets out in approximately 4 months.
And yes he will be a beast =) Whenever hes got free time this guy grinds them SC2 games HARD.

Oh wow, this is great news, remember back in BETA days when there were replays out of him, smashing nerds left and right as Artosis would say!
In the first few weeks of the game coming out, TheStC was showing us all what Terran could do. Can't wait to see more of him, especially when he can go full time if what Jinro says is right.
That's great news Jinro. I was hoping it would be less than 4 months but I'm counting the days. You said he was never gone, but I just hadn't seen any replays of his posted since October of last year so I didn't know.
He wasn't any of the GSLs. Is that because of his schedule with the military? Does he play in random tournaments from time to time or does he just play practice games?
I've also noticed from your recently released replay pack that you're focusing a lot on double pronged banshee hellion harass (and of course mech vs P like in the games vs axslav and MC). I'd love to hear you elaborate more, and who your collaborators are if any .
Yesterday I was looking through the old results for the Zotac Team Invitational season 1 at the end of October, where they did first to 7 (so bo13) and he had a 6-kill in the semifinals and 5-kill in the finals. What a beast! Semifinal vs NEX (he beats Destination, Bleach/Byun/Excrement, Taeja, Line, and 2 non-gsl players Sikari and Skit): http://ch.gomtv.com/4006/28140/390312 Final vs Prime (he beats DayFly, MarineKing, HongUn, Junwi, and Check): http://ch.gomtv.com/4006/28140/390603
I've always rated this guy from the beta, was so looking forward to seeing him in gsl when it was announced, then I find out about the army, shattered... In my opinion the best player from the beta...
just ran into this guy in platinum league. He was showing as a bronze but I could see his practice matches against top masters players as well as well as straight victories filling the entire queue... do these teams have a policy of making smurf accounts just to crush us little guys when we're just trying to have fun? I personally think it's BS.

I'm not sure if this warranted a bump or not. Feels like this kind of statement could be taken in to his fan club so that people could answer your questions there.

Yes, TheStC is definitely smurfing to beat plat leaguers...

Do you honestly believe that? Well in that case I am the real EffOrt from CJ Entus. Just because someone named themselves "STC" doesn't make them oGsTheStC
