EffOrt says that he wants to play the best of the best. The Group of Death has officially been formed. Group A = GoD.

LOL FLash says group selection is too boring. he's sleepy

Well stork's pvz is like his worst matchup so he is group a's insurance

if flash picks stork, this is probably the biggest group of death seen in the osl in a long time.

He does not want to pick up Yarnc otherwise his chances of getting out of this group are very very slim. He better hope noone picks up Zero before him if he plans 1 mu practice.

Does he pick next?

Flash will pick Yarnc imo. There are Hite players present in other groups already.

JD showed balls and picked up EffOrt EffOrt also showed balls and picked up Flash
Wil Flash show balls and pick up a strong rival??

fuck this kids, KeSPa, open finally your eyes, make the seeds based on KeSPa rank so that your stupid ranking system actually becomes some remote meaning. This is dumb as hell - the tournament suffers so much from groups like A

The smartest thing to do for FlaSh is to pick a zerg so he just plays a shit ton of TVZ. And he does so. Smart move Flash.

Major powerhouses at the time. Boxer was still considered the best by many, and as was nada. At this time, Junwi as known as the ZvT God and Foru as the PvT God. They were so feared, that some thought these terrans wouldn't make it out of the group. What made this group the all time best over the other awesome groups of deaths have to do with the group selection. I mean look at it! Nada has the first pick after winning his first OGN title so he bolding picks Boxer to prove himself. Boxer, knowing the power of Foru's PvT, picks Foru to counter Nada (Foru is also known to have anti-nada antibodies as he ALWAYS beats him), and Foru, seeing 2 scary looking terrans, picks the Terran Killer Junwi. That was amazing amazing group picking.
anyway flash pussied out and picked yarnc, doh.

I stand corrected-.-
Yarnc isn't even a pussy out move. Yarnc has really good ZvT so FLash made this group hellishly dangerous for himself.

sure, even though luxury and jangbi aren't even in the osl. the group selection (from what i remember) has started since 2002. i see no reason wrong with the format and the potential for a group of death is pretty awesome. and kespa have NO RIGHT at ALL to touch any of the ogn/mbc ran individual leagues except for the ppp shit.

flash picked best maybe 2nd zvt player, how the hell it is not ballsy?
|
I don't like Flash's chances .
|
Flash needs to play the TvZ of his life to get out of his group. His group has the 3 highest ZvT ELOs right now, Yarnc being the highest and something like 14-2 last 16, he figured out mech completely. Flash is going to have lots of fun practicing with a slumping lux.
Edit: Wtf at people saying Flash picking Yarnc is not ballsy. Yarnc was top 5 ZvT since 08, and is playing real sick ZvT recently, just look at TLPD and look how badly he rolled light.

Flash vs the best, second best, and third best ZvT in the world. Good luck!

THATS THE GREATNESS OF GROUP PLAY. This system of picking groups never fails to make good Ro8s seriously. There is always a group of death in every osl. It's a Bo1, and Stork can easily take a game off any of those 3 in a Bo1, and has in the past.

Exactly, so Stork is a more dangerous pick than Yarnc, and would've made the "deathier" Group of Death.

TvZ is Flash's "weakest" matchup. The issue is that he's playing TvZ against the three best ZvT's in the world right now. Unbelievably ballsy.

It's not like if effort loses to jaedong he's eliminated. The way you propose is utterly stupid. The OSL seeding is done based off of the strength of the players in the OSL. (And if you look at the OSL KeSPA points you will see that they line up exactly with the seeding (because thats how they earn the points)). Another example, in Bacchus 07 Flash lost to Stork in Group C, they both qualified out of the group however, and ended up in the finals.
The bit you should be worried about is the Round of 8 - which is randomly generated. The group stage means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to that.

Too be fair, besides calm playing more, his opponents haven't been too good aswell, but he is probably playing better than yarnc recently.

What about him winning over fantasy?
Besides, record means nothing next to recent performance, where Calm is consistently beating top players in all 3 match-ups, giving him a much better confidence level and much better overall condition than Yarnc, who doesn't even appear in PL anymore.

This is dumb as hell - the tournament suffers so much from groups like A what the fuck? This is OSL tradition - since BEFORE kespa was around. If KeSPA ever fucking tried to pull that shit i'd fly to korea and personally assasinate every one of them. yeah, lets get all top 4 kespa players in one group, let them kill eachother in Bo1 and finally have a Luxury vs JangBi final sure, even though luxury and jangbi aren't even in the osl. the group selection (from what i remember) has started since 2002. i see no reason wrong with the format and the potential for a group of death is pretty awesome. and you think the system is great and makes the tournament better? players are picking their opponents on personal matter for ages (oov autopick nada, nal_ra boxer, stork bisu etc.). Because Flash Jaedong etc were in the same group in the last MSL, eventually one of them was eliminated very early and the tournament sucked after that. Group of Death prove nothing, since the games are Bo1 and may end up with cheese like Flash vs Bisu on Medusa, another match from a group of death. Players like Jaedong Bisu Flash Fantasy (by which I mean the top 4 ranked player) must be put by default on the different sides of the bracket. You will again have very competitive groups but without the best player eliminating each other in no one gives a shit about Bo1, which can end up in cheese This isn't a goddam single elim bracket. I'm going to write a good, long post where I will try to explain my points

Flash has no real "weak" match up, hed be most in danger in an all Terran group as opposed to an all zerg group. Sucks for yarnc..hes prolly not getting out, cause his ZvZ probably isnt good enough to beat Jaedong or Effort on average.

Fantasy's Bio sucks. His bio games are sub 50% if you didnt know that. Even hogil raped the shit out of fantasy when he went bio.

That's a stupid argument? Fantasy went bio because he thought he could win, and he obviously didn't. Therefore, Calm beat fantasy. It's not like because fantasy used a different build, calm didn't -really- beat fantasy.

Lol, I'm more unimpressed with Group D than Group C. Sadly I think Canata might make it through Group D with Leta.
Gonna take Jaedong/Flash, Stork/Fantasy, Bisu/Hwasin, Leta/Canata to advance. Shit happens though, so we'll see.

Defiler rush isn't really that brilliant to me, I liked Magma's win over Hwasin more. It didn't help that Sea decided to suicide his entire army into the Lurkers, either. The reason why I partially disregard those kinds of builds as cheesy is because it doesn't prove how well you can do in straight-up games and against decent opponents. For example Bisu's proxy vs Pokju, albeit impressive, was completely useless(until stork wtfpowned best with it).

Yeah but last MSL Flash got badly raped 2 times by Yellow's 2 hat mutas . Yellow has the best timing against mech . All who tried meching against him failed . Leta once beat him with 2 port in the all - star machup and thats it . Flash still sucks against 2 hat mutas so i don't like his odds against Yarnc .

I'm a hardcore MBC fan. Light isn't any better than your standard run of the mill terran. If he was playing on say, CJ he wouldn't see lineup time. Nor on SKT for that matter. You can clump him in a pile with the likes of upmagic and really tbh.

So.. prediction time.. Jaedong, Flash (though effort could be a tough cookie) Fantasy, Stork Hwasin, ZerO (yes, Bisu is dooming himself har har!) by.hero, Leta (Hopefully by.Hero's mentor July can inspire him for OSL success)

anyway, the problem with saying that flash will have a hard time because vZ is his weakest MU is that his vZ is only "weak" because his vP and vT are that much better. tlpd says his vZ winrate is 64%, yeah definitely his weakest consider his other mu's are like ~69% but definitely not weak.

Yea..maybe if he hasnt been stomping fools consistently all this year and seeing as he has beaten fantasy a couple of times this year and with his great TvZ, Im sure if he was on SKT1 hed get playtime, if the situation called. Not getting playtime on CJ, isnt saying much really. Lumping him in with Sea.really is just ridiculous, really. The quality of the games hes played is far above that of a standard run of the mill terran.

Because I always know what's gonna happen... (haha)
Group A: EffOrt, Jaedong, Flash. YellOw[ArnC] I love how ballsy the players in this group are. JD directly challenged his closest rival. EffOrt threw it right back at him by picking Flash. And Yarnc is no slouch either, after what we saw from Movie last week, anything can happen in this group. Except one thing. I said that EffOrt would win a star-league this season, and I'm not backing down from that. I'm sure EffOrt will advance. Group B: fantasy, Stork, type-b, BackHo In a toss-filled group, I can almost see fantasy's vultures salivating all over their factory floor. Prediction: The number of probe kills that fantasy's vultures get will slightly exceed the number of dumb non-fatal mistakes that Stork makes on his way to the second spot in the group.
Group C: Bisu, go.go, Hwasin, ZerO If I thought there was even a player close to Bisu's level in this group, I'd love to knock Bisu down a peg for buying so much insurance. Unfortunately, that's the point; Bisu has a great group (for advancing), and has set up a thrilling battle (for second). I trust Hwasin and ZerO least out of the three, and I've seen enough strong play from go.go recently to think that... maybe he deserves a spot?
Group D: Kwanro, Leta, by.hero, Canata This is a really intriguing group. What it really hinges on is Leta's two-port staple. If he employs it against the zergs in the group, it'll be interesting to see how they've prepared. I expect a lot. I could easily see Leta going down in this group to superior preparation, but he's also the best player here. But I think Kwanro is the zerg to finish above him here. by.hero's ZvT is not impressive, and while I can't rule out Canata, I'm not expecting him to move on.

wow.....group D is crap in comparison to the other groups, and jaedong has found himself in another group of death. poor guy is going to be so overloaded with osl/msl + carrying oz in proleague
|
Yarnc's TvZ is badass. Everytime he and Flash faceoff it's extremely close, I would not be surprised to see him take a W against him.
Yarnc isn't even a auto lose v. Jaedong. They have both had extremely close games in the past also.
Group A with Yarnc is way more of a group of death than with Stork. Stork would be a huge underdog to Jaedong, underdog to Effort, and maybe even with Flash. Yarnc has a much higher chance of upsetting the group than Stork would and I think the group is way more interesting with him in it. Not to mention, who do you think is more likely to step up his game for this group? Yarnc or Stork? I think Yarnc is going to bring his A game to these matches. -------------------------------------- As for Flash's chances, I feel like Holy World really doesn't fit his TvZ playing style at well (especially against Effort) and that Heartbreak Ridge is also going to be a tough map for him as well. Return of the King is going to be his strongest map, but it's also against Flash's toughest rival Jaedong.
I don't really know. I think Flash could roll through the group, but he can also completely crash and burn. Either way I'm not going to be too surprised. If Flash can show some creativity and flair it's going to help him alot. Also, his bionic control against two hatch muta has really really improved (games against Jaedong on Neo Harmony and Yarnc on Andromeda anyone?) so I think any Zerg trying to pull it off is going to be playing straight into Flash's hands.
That's all I've got for now.

Wow motherfucking group A is literally the ballsiest possible thing. Absolutely none of those player backed down and picked an easy opponent. JD/Effort/Flash comprise 3 of the top 4 players in the world and then Flash goes and picks one of the best ZvT in the world who will literally be only good for sniping him out of the group stages. That is balls of steel.
I am super super dissapointed by Bisu picking go.go. Its not even like he tried to cover it up by picking someone with history (Hwasin, for example, wouldve been ok). He literally just picked the weakest opponent available. I hope it backfires like his previous attempts to create easy groups for himself.

And you must have missed their match on Colosseum II that came down to the freaking wire. Same with their match on Battle Royal. Razor sharp between winning and losing. You're selling Yarnc short if you think Jaedong is auto win vs him.

He actually was in a great position in their previous two bouts and couldn't do anything with it.

omg, group A is too sick!!! except yarnc as a left over choice.
actully rest of the group are okay but Bisu can probably 3-0 his group again.

I don't see why more people aren't focusing on the fact that Yarnc has a teammate in the other 3 groups, so Flash may have picked him as a favor to the whole team system, rather than for any matchup reasons. It's been shown plenty of times that the progamers go out of their way to avoid such things.

At least they did a great job of no team killing in the first round...

No not at all. All the SKT1 players lack the necessary balls to advance to the Ro8, much less the finals.

Good for T1, then in next OSL's group selection, the four weakest players will be chosen in the first round, without doubt.

You kidding? They lack the balls to pick real opponents. BackHo??? GO.GO!?!? WTF fantasy/Bisu, you are two of the best players in this tournament, and you fucking pick BackHo and go.go??!!?!?! T_T
That said, SO looking forward to Group A.

jaedong picked a different, terran opponent at first before switching his choice to effort. does anyone know who that was?

Sad groups for zerg fanboys =(. I hope Bisu gets no-lube anally-raped in the group stages, as he did in the last MSL. He must be really desperate for an OSL title... picking go.go.?!
Backho will win this OSL!

T1 players are so cowardly.
Consistently so.

That's really impressive how every groups are really balanced. According to me, the most interesting will be the A, B and C. We can find many players with good achievements in the past. The C is my favourite one. Good luck [tlpd#players#125#P]Bisu[/tlpd!!!

- Flash, why did you choose Yarnc? Why not Stork?
- The insurance fight will occur on Outsider again.. kekeke
- ZerO advances from Group C keke
- Stork must be auto-advance hehe
- If Stork had 2 Zergs in his group, he'll be giving them (Jaedong, ZerO) one wins each automatically.
- Wow, Group A is really the Group of Death.
Nope, nothing about SKT1 players.

Thoughts:
- Light is awesome. (Not really relevant, but must be said.) So is Calm. - With all the hype of Zerg players having testicles of basketball sizes, you missed another baller: BackHo's pick of type-b. Okay, so if he was really gutsy he'd have picked Flash, but everyone knows his weakest MU is vsZ, so I'd have expected him to choose Stork, in all honesty. - I almost found myself rooting for go.go in the MSL... and then he called Hwasin insurance when Hwasin's probably a better player. Way to lose my sympathy.

A Jaedong, Effort, Flash tiebreaker set would be friggin epic. I really hope one of these three wins this osl--they deserve it...
Also, I'm going out on a limb and predicting Effort and Flash out of A.

This is definitely true. I'm sure Flash picked Yarnc for this exact reason. How else did all 7 CJ players end up in different groups for MSL? The progamers are manner enough to have an unspoken rule about spreading out teammates.

Questions about brackets. Can A-B group winners meet in Finals or is it only A/B vs C/D for a finals?
|
Group A: (Z)Jaedong chooses (Z)EffOrt
Group B: (T)fantasy chooses (P)BackHo
Group C: (P)Bisu chooses (T)go.go
Group D: (Z)by.hero chooses (T)Leta
Ok i just have to lol that... jaedong chossing effort one of the strongest players and the zerg that beated him (and effort is on fire) fantasy choosing backho hes not that bad by.hero choosing LETA strong terran player hites' ace and bisu choosing go.go............. i think bisu just want to advance de easy way lol anyway sick grouping jaedon is on 2 death groups in the msl and osl

Wow, Flash has to go up against the three best ZvTers in the world right now. It sucks only one of Flash/Jaedong/EffOrt are going to make it to the quarterfinals
|
Jaedong picked Effort for revenge from PL imo.
mess of a group there.
|
Jaedong's choice makes perfect sense. Effort, for all of his win streak, is a Zerg. And Jaedong has the best possible chance against Zerg. Any Zerg. Yes, Jaedong lost a game to Effort, but he lost a game to hyvaa. Should Jaedong cower in fear of hyvaa too?
Plus, Jaedong would have expected Effort to pick a Zerg, since that would give Effort the best chance of making it out of his group.
Effort decided to counter that by picking Flash. Now, this is smart from the perspective that it makes it harder for Jaedong, who's weakest matchup is vs. Terran. But this is stupid from the perspective that Effort's weakest matchup is also vs. Terran (note: the fact that these are each other's weakest matchups should not be construed to mean that they are in any way weak in these matchups).
|
United States2186 Posts
Efforts strongest matchup is ZvT; his weakest is ZvP. TLPD is misleading.
Also I see Effort/Flash advancing. Yarnc will definitely lose vs both Zergs and I doubt he will beat Flash because of a style disadvantage. Flash/JD/Effort might end up all 2-1 (Flash>JD, Effort>Flash, JD>Effort seems quite likely) and we'd have some great tiebreakers.
|
No matter what, one of Flash, JD and Effort aren't making it through, which saddens me. Hell even two of them might not make it through of Yarnc upsets. =(
|
Oh wow! Jaedong Flash Effort! Yet another group of death. It is funny how it is always Jaedong or Flash getting those ridiculously hard groups. I remeber the group Flash/Bisu/Much/July which was also really stacked.
Then obviously the last MSL...
I will be definitely looking forward to watching it!

now If only Flash decides to go Bio in his games, we will have an awesome set of matches. I'm predicting that he'll make it through

This guy (actually anyone from the group) is going to have to play at a ridiculously high level just to get out of the group stage. Nobody else will be as prepared as the two qualifiers from that group. And basically, that quote is ridiculously frightening.
