Wow - Destination, Colosseum II and Medusa in a bo5. I hope Skyhigh can pull through but with those maps against a protoss as good as Bisu, I don't know if it's happening.
|
This should have been the final. I hope SkyHigh plays his best and doesnt fall apart during the series. Im thinking Bisu though.

Maps are so rigged for Bisu. Even if he comes in and continues to under perform I'm confident he can still win. The maps are that difficult for TvP.

Andromeda Destination Colosseum II Medusa Andromed
GG SkyHigh. Too bad

I reallly want skyhigh to win because a terran in the finals would be fun.
Skyhigh is screwed considering the map pool though.

what a great night of starcraft

Bisu baby. Please redeem yourself (at least some..) from your crappy performance in OSL and MSL. Ugh.
|
|
hey everybody; once again I was wondering is there any way to watch these games on a mac?
|
Im predicting a 3-1 victory for Bisu, regardless of map stats.
|
What you guys need to understand is that after the Savior game, Bisu is crushed mentally. He cant even think straight and when he plays he will have flashback of the Savior game. I think Bisu gonna enter a great slump now if he loses to skyway.

Andromeda Destination Colosseum II Medusa Andromed GG SkyHigh. Too bad Actually, I've noticed that GOM always has horrible map picks. In all the rounds the maps have been really rigged or just stupid (Neo Requiem... god I hate that map so much). Someone should tell GOM that proleague maps are a different thing than individual league maps. in Proleague a map like Neo Requiem doesn't matter, just put a Protoss out there. But in individual leagues, the Protoss gets almost a free win vs Terran on there. It's just ridiculous. GomTV's map selection is just disgusting, who does it anyway...
How is it possible for every single one of the 4 maps to favor Protoss? What's wrong with Chupung Ryeong or Neo Harmony? Sorry for the rant but Gomtv's map selection is just that bad.

This maps are so lame, next time if they give maps like this they should just put all protoss GOM and they can have fun..

Both players got to veto 1 map. Bisu veto'd Sin Chupung-Ryeong and skyhigh veto'd neo requiem

Stats-wise, Andromeda is 28-25 PvT. Agree on the other three choices.
Neo Harmony has less than a 30% winrate for P in each matchup. That is slightly worse for P than Medusa is for T.
Sin Chupung-Ryeong has balanced stats for both P matchups, wouldn't mind seeing that used here.in place of Medusa.
|
Hoping Skyhigh puts up a good fight, but at the same time, a 3-0 rape may bring Bisu out of his mini-slump.

That's what I don't get. Imbalanced maps are fine, but why are they all imbalanced for one race? Like, something like Neo harmony, Chupung Ryeong, Andromeda, Destination would be so much better. 2 relatively balanced ones and 2 imbalanced ones for each of the races. Instead they just decide to P>T it all.
I'm just hoping that Skyhigh can put a good performance and hopefully take at least a game. The ideal outcome would be victory, but it's going to be really, really difficult. But GOM... do you really wonder why you have so many Protoss left? *sigh*

They should do something like the players get to chose to omit a map or something.

About the maps,
out of the 7 maps that the proleague has been using, each player has decided on a map they wish NOT to play on. they took out neo requiem and chupungryung because they chose to.
|
On January 18 2009 17:53 OSWater wrote: They should do something like the players get to chose to omit a map or something.
They have that. The problem is that Neo Requiem (a Terran graveyard) was in the pool. So obviously SkyHigh chose to drop that map.

I really don't understand the whole lets-use-neo-requiem-but-not-the-other-oldschool-maps thing either :/ But this isn't the right place for this, sorry. My predictions are gonna be 3-0 Bisu, 3-1 at best. Medusa just feels impossible for T to win on.

Maybe, just maybe, Bisu screwed up PvZ on the OSL/MSL maps because he practiced his ass off for PvT/PvP on the Gom maps.
Just maybe.

Bisu should run over him. He's no BeSt. He's still the best when he plays well, there's no reason to think he can't take this imo.

I expect a swift 3:1 from Bisu. I will give one game to SKyHigh as Bisu likes to throw away games from time to time and SKyHigh is a decent Terran.

Its not kespa sanctioned however, so it is obviously not the top priority of OSL/MSL. Also unless there are big names, no one shows up except for like 5 people.

I personally think it's a really bad and flawed way of thinking to use proleague maps for an individual tournament. In proleague you can choose what race to play on a certain map, no T's are gonna have to play TvP on Medusa or Neo Requiem, so it's okay to have them. But in individual leagues, you really need a map set that has maps favoring both races or at least mostly balanced maps. Rant rant rant... Well, it's gonna start now, so gotta pause ranting for a while.

Yeap, considering 14 nexus is pretty common on Andromeda. Skyhigh just got unlucky when Bisu had his first zealot come out.

In this case it wouldn't really have changed it too much, the thing is that Bisu would have scouted Skyhighs base anyway and would have realized there was a proxy. Also if you do not place it in the middle there is a big chance that you placed them father from your opponent than you could have.

This is ridiculous, Skyhigh played like a champ against Best and now he can't even keep an advantage against Bisu, gaaaayyy. Next map isn't exactly promising either but who knows what he prepared. I pray Skyhigh can pull off 3 wins, he did play brilliantly on medusa last time.

i sense some anger from some of you.... relax and enjoy the rape i mean, games from bisu.... and skyhigh.

Medusa is Bisu's map. No way Skyhigh is gonna win on it.
It is gonna end here and now. Colosseum will be the graveyard of the last Terran in the tournament....

Why is everyone bitching about that trapped dragoon? Sure, a pro should not do that, but it's not like it took something off of the generally great game management Bisu showed.

Colosseum II is doable TvP and Andromeda too, skyhigh just needs a miracle on medusa

night elf dominated WC3 in the early days. MBC rigged a map so orcs built faster and some other things so that orc could win and it might give them higher viewer ratings. Freedom was a night elf and was victim to the map rigging, and it ruined his chances at going to the finals. it was let out and MBC lost a lot of respect in WC3. Freedom also lost all faith in WC3 and switched to SC, where he now resides on Khan.

It was two dragoons trapped in seperate areas and he had to kill a pylon and a citadel to get them out.

It would have been better if Bisu lost and skyhigh marched into his base, then we have jokes about "The Last Dragoon", and would spin off into a starcraft miniseries and UMS map.

I'm kind of hoping that they can at some point move to a 3 person panel, basically just like the korean one. I hope they're just as good, but then again, I have no idea how good the korean one is, because I have no idea what they talk about ^_^

Eh imo multiple partner casting should have atleast one female.
edit: wow in retrospect that didnt come out right

wtf I stood up early to see bisu getting broken forever and then I find out I have no cigarettes left over. So I put on my jacket at the start of game 1 to go fetch cigarettes when Tasteless & Daniel Lee start screaming so I know its a proxy. I stay and watch the abysmal failure of a rush from skyhigh, then go to buy cigarettes. When I return game 2 is already over and its 2-0 for bisu.... If shit continues at this rate, it will be the most useless waste of a sunday morning in bed ever.

Guys. This isn't about the maps. Yes these maps are imbalanced as hell and no you cannot blame it on innovations fully because Flash has been doing that far more than any Protoss player.
But Skyhigh vs Bisu is not decided upon maps. Bisu vs Flash might have been; both players played incredibly well but Flash's builds did do a lot to help the maps be a bit better imo. Bisu was just a little bit better that day.
But right now you are putting an S class player against a normal A/B level Terran. Bisu is going to win 3-0 on any maps if he played like he did vs Flash; the only question was how shaken would he be by his msl/osl defeats.
Skyhigh's performance against Best is irrelevant because Best is terrible in series play. This is what happens when you put one of the smartest players against some generic mechanical player.

What does he think about SkyHighs game plans (cheese on game 1 etc.) and if he thinks that SkyHighs nevers affected his games.
How confident was he in facing SkyHigh, was he expecting the 3-0?
the standard questions.

1. You have beaten both Jangbi and free in MSL. Who do you think wins, who do you want to face? 2. How important was today's match to you, given you were knocked out of BOTH other solo leagues?

Fuck Bisu that rush was unnecessary all he did was deprive us of the possibility for some decent Starcraft. It makes me happy he was kicked out of both leagues. At the end of the day it is the fans that suffer because of this kind of disgraceful conduct, clearly Bisu has no honour.

Eh, that was almost as quick as Flash - Stork OSL final .
But seriously, pretty poor show from SkyHigh...eventhough the maps sucked hard, I don't think Bisu would have lost on balanced either.

Ask him if he thinks his loss to by.hero in the OSL caused him to possibly play worse than he otherwise would have in his MSL group.

His job is to win. And it looked to me like he did that quite well.

Yeah, how dare Bisu rape a vastly inferior opponent and just ended the game, he should drawn it out, teched to Dark Archons, MCed an SCV, and massed a Terran army. And then maybe he could throw the game, and the following one, so we could have a 5 game series.

Come on, you ignorant haters out there who want to flame and console yourselves - Bisu played pretty good today, not his best, but it was damn good gameplay, astounding micro and standard macro. Skyhigh opened up with a BBS, sniped an early carrier but couldn't handle a flank, and eventually got reaver-raped due to mediocre gameplay. Experience is a large factor in today's victories, and Bisu responded adequately to the pressure while Skyhigh crumbled miserably. Who the hell goes all-in and keeps mining from his base? Abuse that 60-hp monster known as the SCV and absorb some shots for your hero rines. Game 2, micro those goliaths and don't overextend when Bisu's already held off your push. Final game was just meh.
So tell me, what's with all the Bisu hate? Sure he failed hard against zerg this season, but his PvT is stellar and he's sniping terran players left and right. The man is a true fighter, unlike some others I could name.
And when you have an entire race following in your shadow, copying your tactics against zerg and trying to adapt them, that's just testament to your greatness.
|
He came pretty close to losing in the second game and I didn't spot any cheesing...there ..I think

Bisu, what a beast, how could you fail so terribly in osm/msl, it's confusing. I hope he will improve in his strats, that it will teach him a lesson, you can't dominate this game without any improvement just riding your old strats.
Skyhigh, thanks for preventing all P semis, that would be bad, but these games vs Bisu it was even worse than P mirror. Such rapes.

I am not really looking forward that much for GOM right now. Next week Jangbi vs free (pvp) and then a week with no games and then the pvp final. I would most likely skipped watching live next week but I am going to watch it just because of super Daniel =)
I am looking forward more to the next season compared to the finals.

every matchup, even zvz is art, yet mirrors have more downsides than non mirrors, and when you have 23434324 PvP's recently, it get's more boring than it could be.

there is nothing wrong with PvP, its just that clubday had 4 semifinalist Protoss resulting in a lot of PvP
also a wider variety of matchups is better
lastly speaking from personal preference i like watching different races battle so its not killing ur own race kind of thing

I think you need to look at it separately tho. In my opoinion Bisu has figured Flash out, he knows his plays style and in the last games he played a perfect counter to it. This does not necessary mean that Bisu has figured out a way to beat all Terrans, after all Flash style is a bit different. But after all, Skyhigh is so new to the scene that anything else than Bisu winning would have been a huge upset.
To people who say Skyhigh is a terrible terran and played like shit today: this is only the beginning, Skyhigh has showed what he can do and he will be lethal in the future, watch out.

i am really not sure anymore that he has this "massive" amount of fans. i've been to two of his games vs savior (the osl games last year and the msl game on thursday), and the room was packed with savior fans, and the cheers all went out to savior. on thursday people actually started leaving after bisu's game vs magma. they didn't even stay to see if he'd qualify.
you could argue that savior is just more popular but even so, bisu's supposed fans should make their presence felt more. speaking of which, i'm never going to one of savior's games again. his fans are fucking crazy. i don't think it even comes across in the vods how loud they are. and have you ever tried staying next to the schoolgirl who screams the "1, 2, 3 majaeyun hwaiting!"? i thought my eardrums had burst.
rant aside, congrats to bisu for a redeeming series. i'll be a fan regardless of whether he wins or not.

Nice play by Bisu, bit of redemption for his poor OSL/MSL performance. Funny how his PvZ became his weakest mu, confirmed of all people against MJY but not surprising I guess since he became the kid to beat for all zergs. And wtf is up with people calling Skyhigh bad ... yeah he lost this series pretty badly due to some poor decision making but Bisu has been a monster PvT/¨PvP and Skyhigh has already shown a lot of promise. I hope he develops his agressive style to a trademark style that wins a starleague. ^^
|
Man, Super Daniel picked UpMagic and Sangho and MBC picked Bisu and Sea? xD
I guess his picks are coming around these days...
Was pretty much expecting a 3-0. Bisu is fine mechanically, he just had some lapses in judgment/scouting (and his opponents played really well on the whole). Think most of the "Bisu is slumping" was wishful fanboy thinking... of course if he loses the finals, I get the feeling that it's going to be even worse.
Although I don't know what in the world Skyhigh was doing game 1... kill the zealot or some probes when you have a bit of an advantage, don't wait!

Why are so many people confused about Bisus performances? PvT and PvZ are very different, he just doesn´t have the edge he once had over zerg players anymore. Maybe he set his priorities on his PvT/PvP, and it paid off, even if he lost some of his old PvZ strength. He was so unreliable before, especially versus terrans.

Just maybe. Maybe i'm wrong but isn't gom a lot less prestigious? yeah, they dont practice for gom at all.. Gom is not as respected as OSL and MSL because its a new and "unproven" one, but the ProGamers practice for it just as much as they do for any league obviously.. There is money to be won. i dont wanna go into this discussion, but players said them selves , like flash etc.. that they dont really have time to practice for GOM, but you go ahead, and believe what you want.. Well, the players obviously care since last season, when GOM wasn't sanctioned, Flash practiced soley for the finals, he said he didn't even care about the WCGs. So it's situational, it's not a hard-set rule that players care less for GOM.

It's far less superstition then the OSL curse or the Protoss winning in fall in which way more people tend to believe...
I am just a casual GomTV watcher (and I have seen just 4ish games on Destination) and I must say that its still funny for me. Bringing something Interesting into casting is always good, and although it will piss off 10% of people, the rest will be either untouched or even positive towards it. Superstitious or not, when the 'Teddy Bear guy' (-Daniel Lee, 2009) died, I was suddenly rooting for Bisu.

im betting on bisu vs jangbi rematch, though this time im scared of jangbi unlike in the MSL bisu was gonna rape him (which he did)
|
+ Show Spoiler +Jangbi will easily take down Free in the other semifinal and then Bisu is going to slam Jangbi once again. That powerrank is just stupid, although I'm quite afraid of Bisu's recent form in PvZ. I almost fainted when I saw the 2-0 loss against by.hero, then just a week later he turned up in a all Z group and lost. And yes, he sucked!

I guess so.
More interesting is the fact that he's either playing a bo5 against either jangbi or free, so he should have a good idea of what to expect no matter what

Well. 2 first games were a hugely disappointing (SKyHigh played really terrible), but in the 3rd game Bisu showed some really nice play.
And another tournament will be won by a Toss...

I find the "pandabear guy" comment by Tasteless amusing. Korean Starcraft is full of superstition. Legend of the Fall, OSL curse, etc.

Bisu showed again why he is one of the top Dragons along with Stork. His play is so dynamic.
1. anti-cheese defend 2. 14 nexus, reaver to carriers 3. manual labor shuttle
SkyHigh never got into his normal timing when Bisu did everything SkyHigh wasn't expecting. Had Flash been in another bracket, the finals would likely be Bisu vs Flash in a best of 5.

I find it amusing as well. Everyone has his/her own opinion and the popular vote should probably influence how the casts are done going forward, but, Tasteless, if you are reading this, you have made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Please continue to do what you have been doing.

That was such a beatdown. I feel sorry for SkyHigh.
Jangbi for GOM champ!

Even though the first 2 games were a bit one sided and dull, the Tastless+Daniel casting team had me laughing out loud several times. Always fun to watch!
Good to see Bisu is keeping his composure. Anyone who expected Bisu to drop off the earth after a a couple bad vZ games were seriously getting ahead of themselves...

What bothers me about the pandabearguy joke is that it's not a panda bear at all, but a polar bear. Seems like Bisu's worst MU is PvZ now, but probably for just a while. I'm sure he'll be able to revamp it (For example taking a few things off Kal's book) so that the Z's can't counter it so well, and he should be doing well again.

Ya the panda bear guy thing was kind of strange at first since it is like you said a polar bear. W/e you get used to it.

While on the topic of pandabearguy, does anyone know if theres ever been a game where a progamer detonates a critter?

Fixed.
But your point is right, Bisu was simply better prepared. It seemed to me that SkyHigh was practicing against Bisu's usual strategies, only to find out that he completely changed them. This Bisu reminded me more of Much in game 2 and 3 rather than his old Bisu PvT Style, with his pimp carriers and rush on Colloseum. But SkyHigh was still playing the old Bisu.
Bisu's change is probably the reason for his defeat in other starleagues. He definitely uses different Bo's and style than before, and although the transition is visibly painful it is the only way for him to stay on top.
Boxer had to reinvent himself, Nada had to do the same, and even Savior found out that his old dominating strategies no longer even grant him a spot in a Starleague...

Mind Control. At least Daniel and Tasteless sated that a MC'ed critter is destroyed, so you have to parasite it in order to have a spy on the map.
And I have no Idea who has done that in a game, and I would love to see that too

omg the amount of blind bisu fanboyism is unbelievable... skyhigh fucked up big time and bisu played acceptable to take this weak opponent out. If Bisu would have beaten skyhigh 3 weeks ago and then proceed to lose msl/osl qualifiers people couldnt have argued that he simply isnt at the top of his game right now. Just because things happened the other way around people suddenly talk like bisu is the no.1 again. No he isnt. Even if he wins Gom, his massive failure in osl/msl was not a random fluke, but a sign of weakness. Bisu is not at the top of his game right now, beating a very unimpressive Skyhigh on P maps 3-0 doesnt change that.
btw I dont care that Skyhigh beat best. He surely played very good in that series. But what does it matter? He obviously isnt consistent enough to play on that level every time cus against bisu, he played like a mediocre noname terran (which he actually was only months ago) at best.

Maybe the fact that he managed to go 3-1 vs Flash in the past 2 weeks is helping his case?
Yeah, maybe he's not as dominating as he was a month ago but it certainly seems like he's got his PvT/PvP under control.

Of course if he beat SkyHigh recently it's better than the other way around, because it's more recent, duh. It means that he's performed better recently. Also, he has shown nothing but invincibility in vP and vT, it's absolutely sickening. He becomes stagnated in vZ, loses 4 matches, and people say god he sucks? Anti-Bisu fanboyism is incredible.

Maps played a role in both his wins and losses, if you're going to take that into account for one you have to for the other as well. Tears of the Moon and Neo Harmony both are off to >70% ZvP starts.
(I don't think maps really determined either outcome, just sayin...)

Unproven yes, but GOM could very well be skyhigh's first of many successful tourneys to come. He beat Leta a few days after beating Best, has a win against Kal too.

Plus, Zergs went on a 13-0 streak ZvP on destination. Bisu played terribly that game tho -.- (vs Zero)

Although Bisus PvZ was shaky in OSL/MSL (to say the least) he has shown us some really impressive PvT lately. His wins over flash, both in GOMTV and ProLeague were beautiful and he somewhat showcased new aspects of gameplay in the PvT match-up, in my opinion.

Why would 4 losses versus zerg say more about Bisus current form than a 1st place in a huge tournament..? Of course the most recent matches says more about the current form of the player. Also, if you are saying that Bisu can win GOMTV and still not be on the top of his game, then I say kudos to Bisu.

I don't really think Bisu playing worse was why he got eliminated in other leagues. It is more the zerg has gotten better rather than Bisu playing slightly worse. Zerg strategies are changing to counter the protoss ball. It is similar to when Bisu 3-0 Savior and Savior was playing bad when in fact he is still using same strategy that won for him. It wasn't until after that people realize that it was in fact, Savior's opponent was playing better. A dark age of pvz may be coming soon or at least a setback.
|
Possibilities: 1. Zerg players have gotten a lot better, even though the superior Terran Mech and Protoss players have managed to mask that with their wins. 2. Zerg players have finally undermined Bisu's style (for example, I felt that in Bisu vs Effort on Medusa that Bisu looked far from invincible). 3. Bisu is having trouble with Zergs because of the lack of good practice partners (SKT Zergs lol) 4. Bisu was overconfident in his matches against by.hero and sAviOr and therefore didn't practice much. Either that or played risky (not sure about this as I haven't actually watched the matches) due to underestimating his opponents. 5. Coincidence/bad day/etc,etc

god i hope it isn't 3 or 4. i'd rather have bisu beat by having his play studied, but dropping his pvz because of lack of good Z partners is just ridiculous. not that this could be it or anything, but if that was the case..
|
Bisu's performance in OSL/MSL will be forgotten soon enough. Especially if he wins GOM and continues hes PvT/PvP dominance. A couple bad PvZs do NOT = a rapid descent into mediocrity.
Same thing happened to Flash in last MSL, it just happens sometimes.
|
What happened was that zergs going against bisu prepared extra-hard to counter the bisu build.
Come on, bisu does the bisu build like 99.99999% of his pvzs. I'm sure Bisu prepared for the matches (although not as hard for his other matches since his pvz is the best MU and that must be partly why he wanted an all zerg group). Zergs finally took a hint and started hard-core countering it with prepared builds.

Bisu did dark drop rush vs ZerO and suicided his first 2 sairs so instead of darksair harassing ZerOs main it was 2 darks running in circles from a few muta. It wasn't the classic bisu build, it was just a really bad build.
