Regarding the game: Poor JD, but tbh he did not deserve to advance with this performance. He dies often nowadays but at least he dies in a spectacular fashion most of the times. His aggressive style was very entertaining to watch once more. At least my favourite toss, Snow, advanced, it was a good day!

He is not hysterical anymore, he is more eloquent than Tastosis, and he surely has stepped up his game sense, which still behind the other casters but that makes him great company. Also, a truly momentous moment in time when Zelot beat one of the best of the new (Snow) and one of the best of the old (JD) to advance. He never played in a progaming team or even was a practice partner like Larva was. People like Zelot could very well be the future of Brood War.

How can you call a top 5 player of any race mediocre? He is not the all-killing monster of old, he does not do amazingly great in 1v1 leaues but still, do you even realize how extremely and impossibly tough it is for players to even qualify? Calling a player like that mediocre does not do him justice at all. I guess you compare his current form with that of old and this is just not reasonable. Past successes are in no way a guarantee for future ones. He has won every title there was to win in KESPA era, what's surprising that now he is not that motivated to play for 14 hours a day? I am just glad we are still able to watch those people play and show us the game with the best gameplay.

The very fact an amateur who has never been associated with a programing team can advance after beating two excellent ex-pros, even if he played cheesily, means that ex-pros are no longer an impossible obstacle for amateurs to overcome. And remember that Flash too used to be very cheesy in his early days.

And remember that Flash too used to be very cheesy in his early days. not privy to flash's practice games back in 06/07, im pretty sure he had huge latent ability and is already quite the beast in macro, just wasn't GOAT tier yet. only uses cheese as he lacks confidence and thinks cheesing gives him the best chance of winning. zelot though, i watch his stream over the years...really no lol. cheese/aggression is his defining trait. usually only forced to play macro when his cheese is repelled and then is just serviceable at best, really lacks tempo and urgency that top zergs have. only recently do i see him start practicing more macro games which is a good sign i guess. but if you want actual potential soma is the one to watch.

On the contrary, JD actually played quite beautifully vs. Snow up until the last quarter of the game when he unfortunately got broken. I thought he was going to win it if he played solid the rest of the way through and finished clearing the bottom right. If he burrowed his lurkers at his hidden expansion and got reinforcements through before his nydus got sniped, it would have gone to the late game. The JD of old probably would've been able to, but yeah, not sure, maybe his mental game also affects his composure as well.

While I do agree with most of the sentiments towards JD's play, I don't think it's right to necessarily criticize his decision to go 3hh - it's a strong build and always good to keep your opponent on their toes in a BO1.
