Race distribution: Terran : 13 Zerg : 15 Protoss : 36
Hype/Groups: I translated the hype from Chinese. Group A: FoR..jmdjj(神经病) Vs Max..lovexiaoppp FoR..HaNeul vs FRDS_feng + Show Spoiler + Group A will kick off the Ro64's, it's still a question though rather these games will be picked for the live cast. The two FoR members in the group jmdjj and Haneul (who's studying overseas in S.Korea) will battle against Zerg and Protoss, jmdjj's ability should make him the strong favorite in the group. Although Haneul wasn't a favorite going into his preliminaries group, he qualified easily with a no-loss record, a strong indication of his skill level, he will be going up against ex-fan favorite FRDS_feng, definitely a spectacular match in the making. On the other hand lovexiaoppp is a player that's not well known, I had even mistaken him for chinappp, against the strong jmdjj his chances are slim, luckily he still has good chances against the two other protoss' in the group. He can still use the ZvP advantage to qualify out of the group. Over-all the predictions are that the two FoR players qualify hand in hand out of this group with a strong showing.
Group B: FoR..xiaozi vs [JXSA].lower(迷糊) FRDS_ZP(瑞格格) vs The.PrinceOfStar + Show Spoiler + This is a group with all 3 races represented and all of them in dominant form. Xiaozi is a seasoned veteran, 迷糊 was once a top 3 non-korean terran, 瑞格格 was once indominable, and princeOfStar is also a fan favorite. Everyone has potential and would bring exciting matches, but in terms of their form, 迷糊 coming out of the group shouldn't be a problem, as to the other 3, even though 瑞格格 qualified with out noted difficulty, his skill has decreased by quite alot, so the second place should be a fight between Xiaozi and PrinceOfStar, personally I want a non-protoss to qualify, so I'm picking lower and xiaozi.
Group C: FRDS_SKTelecomBisu vs HisT=Li_WJ Sun=HS_one vs NJ_StoRm4ever + Show Spoiler + Before the match 小新(bisu) wanted me to keep collecting karma for him (it's a Chinese joke where you keep dissing / praising a player for the opposite effect, for example if you want someone to succeed then you say that he's a terrible player who can't win etc), so the first to get disqualified should be him. Next up HS_one who is one of the korean fighters(won against koreans recently) should be able to capture a qualifying spot. And StoRm4ever should be able to use the ZvP advantage in this group to get the second qualifying spot. And unfortunately Li_WJ I don't even know much about, so he is scapegoated this time, but maybe since I massed karma for you you would also qualify?
Group D: =A.ce=miracle86 vs [B.D]=s2zerg [HS81]五竹 vs NT..805 + Show Spoiler + "Headwash"(not sure where this nick came from)-hyung battling against "dumb-jwa" (S2's nick name in China), s2zerg always talk to me about how his ZvZ is so "bugged" (i.e. good), but I feel that this time his chances aren't great, so the frst one to win the ZvZ should be the player to qualify. And also 五竹 should be feeling tremenduous pressure from fans to qualify out of this group, 805 player is so mysterious, with a lvl 12 VS account but a 28-5 record (85%) in STL, it's quite a tense moment for 五竹妹子(younger sister, 五竹 is a girl). The final results should be between s2zerg and 五竹.
Group E: NJ_xiaoxiaoma vs Sun=agony_gg The.Jaystaryx vs [HS81]278346174 + Show Spoiler + Xiaoxiaoma is goign to help gg type gg, Jaystar running into "Flame"-hyung, in the end will the horse rider (ma means horse in chinese) prevail or the one carrying a gun (jaystar's nick amounts to something like "sniper") prevail? Or would both players qualifying be the most favorable result? Regardless the two favorites are Jaystar and xiaoxiaoma, ofcourse agony)gg and 278346174 won't just sit and wait for their demise, from my predictions, a black horse (pun) emerging from this group is very likely, so I will predict gg and 278346174 to qualify. Predictions being too logical isn't fun, Please flame me~
Group F: D7_liantaiye vs [B.D]=117 A.G=woailaopo vs FoR..jois + Show Spoiler + Plu D7 team's "ace" player (oldest legend player)'s participation is key, making it into the Ro64 is already satisfying enough, so you can go rest (drop out of the tournament)... You understand. On the other hand 117 has been in great condition recently, making it out of the preliminaries against zergling (player), so you can't help but be worried for D7's ZvP. On the other hand woailaopo will run into fierce terran Jois from FoR, you can only say that everyone is stressed, wives aren't useful so they are resorting to husbands (woailaopo means "I love wife" in chinese, and Jois is married). So this group 117 and Jois should qualify, regardless of rather the competition is an old veteran or a new comer, sorry~ Now is the period of the "middle"-man's dominance (prime time players).
Group G: GP).Startoss vs FRDS_Colonel (ZK) FRDS__An_forgret vs OBO=akjh999 + Show Spoiler + I'm going to throw my arms up here, regardless of rather you are a veteran or a star, I just want Zergs to qualify, there are way too many protoss'. Even though Startoss and forget are both strong, ZK-hyung is even stronger, not too familiar with 999 but you can also qualify~ Work hard guys I don't want to see a Ro8 with all protoss. (Protoss is by far the most populated/active race in China)
Group H: The.aPriL vs [HS81]Agile_AQ love_Helios vs F.Y=aqiang + Show Spoiler + Danh Dang Dang (bell sounds) Can we get a re-count (regroup)??? There are only 11 terrans in the Ro64 and a 4 terran group appears? It is to commemorate the now defunct Chinatttt (a bankrupt Chinese motocycle company)? So in this group there are 2 of the top 3 terrans, leilei and AQ, and also aPriL and deyidexiao (means smirk in Chinese). "Laugh"-hyung has also gotten good records in on-line tournaments, so he won't give up the spot easy. Regardless there will be 2 terrans who are disqualified from this group, in terms of ability, leilei and AQ come out on top. Good luck. P.S: You should all count yourselves lucky that China's top TvT HighDrak isn't in the group, else your dreams would be crushed.
Group I: FoR..Jmjm vs PSER=STILL NJ_highdark vs ExTra.liangxu + Show Spoiler + The unparalleled "Gengda" (highdark) will tear through this group of new-comers (noobs), he has a history/skill set that's invincible, coming out of this group wouldn't have any problems. And Liangxu player is also a veteran, after being trumped by Gengda he should only be even more motivated and break out of the remaining 3 players. Poor jmjm and STILL, after trying to hard you still can't escape your tragic destiny, you can only blame the your timing, having a bad streak, being in the same era as Gengda, and getting placed in the same group.
Group J: GP).OnlyCC vs PSER=ALL_ZR(SR) love_tudou vs [HS81]Lmarlboro + Show Spoiler + This group has 3 terrans fighting against 1 protoss. Fa(means law in Chinese)-jwa (Lmarlboro), General C (OnlyCC) and "Deity" (ALL_ZR) are all well known players, and tudou also has strong potential. "Deity" should be able to capitalized on the TvT match up against veteran General C, it's an era where he's unbeatable is it not? On the other hand Fa-jwa's game against tudou could come down to any instant occurence. So predicting this group is very difficult, but I will go out on a limb here and say that Deity is destined for a tragic outcome, and that Fa-jwa and tudou qualify, General C will successfully play out the "best supporting male cast". According to playsc's karma theory, this prediction is very potent (Chinese jokes about reverse predictions).
Group K: [B.D]=Key vs A.G=shiftzerg PSER=_die_jaedong(猜猜) vs GP).UDPzerg + Show Spoiler + Haha I'm here to collect Karma (again), this group has 猜猜 who's famous for zergling run-bys, crazy practice-bonjwa shiftzerg, veteran jedi (UDPzerg) and new comer key. Key is going to be fighting alone against shiftzerg which should be a complete disaster, and then getting owned by one of 猜猜 or jedi, and leaving the OSL stage with regret and sadness, so he can focus on doing the organizational work (C-OSL organizer). And the drama between 猜猜 and Jedi isn't too important, what is important is that they both fight to keep out the despicable protoss' and qualify. This group doesn't have any uncertainties, so it doesn't even need to be predicted.
Group L: =A.G=angel~kiss vs FRDS_999 PSER=my1hero vs NJ_vulture + Show Spoiler + Players Angelkiss and 999 - kiss-hyung being a "soysauce" (meaning noob) player who was grouped with me in the preliminaries - being eliminated shouldn't be surprising at all. On the other hand is a struggle between macro beasts, there are people who say "happy" (my1hero) -hyung can get to 200 supply at 10 minutes, some people who say that he can get to 200 supply at 9 minutes, from my understanding it's actually 300 supply at 8 minutes, so Vulture is going to lose, even though making it out of the bracket eventually isn't a problem. In this group the player who unconventionally swapped a "1" for a "l" in their name (my1hero and vu1ture) should qualify first.
Group M: D7_jiaotou vs FoR..oldpig FoR..CQLQ(疯子) vs love_273 + Show Spoiler + Jaiotou vs Oldpig is one of the few TvZ match ups, personally I favor oldpig; on the otherside of the bracket is 疯子 (fengzi) against 273, judging by the recent games where Fengzi is performing spectacularly against korean players, he should qualify with out any uncertainty. So with out any ado with a conserved estimation, 疯子 and oldpig will qualify.
Group N: [B.D]=QingFeng vs FoR..Pige(皮皮鲁) GP).guoqian vs GP).Zdy + Show Spoiler + This group is just terrifying, "royal roader" qingfeng against 皮-hyung (pige), 皮-hyung you are already a star player, why are going harassing qingfeng? Just let him have his royal road, okay? And guoqian vs zdy is also two star players, after examining carefully, it seems that China BW's #1 player zdy-hyung will win, and be again C-OSL's #1 favored contestant (half joking), and bring us more Vods of him owning noobs, ofcourse this time the show is even higher level, it will be him owning strong players! Predicting qingfeng and zdy to qualify, pige and guoqian will "get soysauce" (be the noobs).
Group O: FRDS_Te_kunhu vs [JXSA].reinforced FRDS_lcydh vs The.weifeng009 + Show Spoiler + This prediction is so easy to make, China's #1 PvP 东海(icydh) will qualify first, and China's #2 PvP 超神 (reinforced) will qualify second, China's #3 PvP kunhu is just tragic (being placed in this group), and could China's most amazing frontal assault 009-hyung be able to win in a straight up fight? This group is a match made in heaven, do not miss it.
Group P: =A.G=tostar vs =A.ce=zg_zhanhun NJ_iloveyouwxy vs PSER=PS_Royalabbey + Show Spoiler + The closing group will be the last battlefield for the Ro32, zhanhun (战魂) player is strong and could use his strong fundamentals to qualify for the Ro32, and tostar has also kept his edge (is a veteran). Other than zhanhun, the other three are all old names in the Chinese BW circle and will fight for the other qualifying spot. I will hazard a guess and predict that iloveyouwxy will successfully be disqualified, along with "sensei" (Royalabbey), leaving tostar to qualify for the Ro32 alone.

Thanks, I'll add it to the list of alternate IDs on Liquipedia. He's still listed as [SvS].Fengzi on Liansai.net for STL though.

About what fish skill level are these players? I haven't watched them yet and are wondering if they are worth watching.

I'm stoked. I wish these players didnt shift names so much!
I'll be casting from VODs thanks to the assistance of Caihead so I'll keep you posted.

I don't know their fish ranking. The best of them are about Scan's level. The rest is between B and A- Iccup.
|
i think most of them are 1200~1500, with a few, like fengzi, jaystar, vulture could be higher since they are ex pro i have worked with some of them during last nation war, 猜猜said he is around 1450, and he is considered one of the top z(zvp strongest) in china.
|
Speaking of which, can people who understand the different servers (VS, HF, Fish, Brain, iccup, etc) please pm me, so I can transcribe instructions to appropriate threads and chinese forums. Thanks

That's mainly because we are not familiar with the clan tags included in their names yet. Caihead and I are also starting to add those players to Liquipedia.
e: If the Chinese leagues are appreciated on TL, we may even try to get them added to TLPD, so we may have TLPDized players in LR threads !

good lord doing TLPDs for like up to 600~3000 players would be a nightmare (30 teams where ~10-20 play regularly, have 200 on roster including b-teamers)

Well this is the COSL thread, so I was mainly talking about COSL. We don't have to record the prelims in TLPD, so that's only 64 players.

Is it possible for someone to record the streams and upload them as VODs on youtube? :o It would defintely be appreciate by me, since downloading youtube videos is the most convenient way to watch SC.

If its possible to download the VODs I would much rather set up an English Cast Youtube rather than stream all of this to twitch. It'd be a lot of work, but with help I could make it happen.

VODs of prelims are available on Youku on 叮当's channel : http://i.youku.com/u/UNDU3MTUyNzU2 The video names are 第一届中国星际OSL海选赛X组直播VOD, X being the group's letter.

Chinese players do crazy shit all the times, like crazy proxy builds and timings, jaystar used a proxy gate dt rush on a 4 player map against scan (terran) and made an instructional video of it with timings and everything.

its the scene, terrans are really inactive in china and most chinese players prefer a certain all-in-ish or macro late game play style to compensate for lack of ability to practice all the time and have resources like the Korean scene, protoss' fit that quite nicely.
|

Omgmgomg yes. Im stoked. No bad luck expect English Commentary from this whole round
As for the race selections, the Koreans were low in the pre-boxer era if Im not mistaken. Maybe a terran just needs to "break out." i didnt see any solid terran in thw CFTB, but die.jaedong and zergling were both superb, agressive zergs. Aystar too.

I think it was mentioned that korea's zerg population (over-all not just progamer) is byfar the highest hence some of the reason why some progamers decided to go terran.
Also fake Jaedong is clearly better.

Korea = Zerg, Top Korea = Terran
Foreigner = Protoss (i know this for a FACT), Top Foreigner = Zerg
Therefore,
China = Terran, Top China = Protoss ?

That was a pretty good game. Nice cost effective engagements by toss, but terran was just too ahead economically.

I'll attempt a restream. This time with the lovely bcoverlay, it will be epic! Haha. I hope someone else (s2glow?) casts this and that there are no lag issues! http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/Stratos (I'll try to add myself to the event) I'll try to cover some games including Terran, start with theTvZ if possible.. in case anyone wants to cover something else. Or if you're casting let me know which and I'll restream another games.

FoR..oldpig vs love_273 g2 http://www.twitch.tv/stratosj/b/324993377 2:47:00 or wait for the official VODs, probably better quality and no lag issues, although it was pretty fine for this game.
