Welcome: TheShimmy Showmatch Series is a series of Bo7 Showmatches amongst some of the most talented and competitive D/D+ players in the TeamLiquid Community. It is designed to give the top level players from the D-Ranks Team League and D-Ranks Individual Tournament a place to showcase their skill. The showmatches will encompass all six possible race matchups and will be casted by myself via Twitch! The Players: Subject to Change
How to Watch: All showmatches will be streamed via my twitch which will also contain the VODs if anyone should miss the initial stream.
Schedule: Subject to Change
Match One July 15th, 03:55 GMT (+00:00) Babo VS IU + Show Spoiler +
A rematch of the semi-final from the DRIT that brought us some classic D-Rank level games. Their last series saw proxy gateways, DT rushes, and an elimination race. Expect great things as the Bo5 becomes a Bo7.
Match Two July 24th, 03:55 GMT (+00:00) Essbee VS Massssssss + Show Spoiler +
What could be the best match of the entire series. Essbee won gold in DRIT Season 1, whereas Massssssss has demonstrated excellent play at the zerg D+ level.
Match Three July 28th, 03:55 GMT (+00:00) Aeghrur VS Nikon + Show Spoiler +
The "Coin-Flip" matchup of ZvZ pits DRIT Quarterfinalist Aeghrur against DRTL S3 organizer Nikon. Nikon has promised to practice intensely, whereas great play can be expected from the both.
Match Four August 10th 03:55 GMT (+00:00) Obelisco VS L_Master + Show Spoiler +
The series concludes with an excellent TvP matchup, as the always dangerous Rexel is pitted against the beloved long-time D-Rank streamer, caster, and player L_Master
Match Five TBD 03:55 GMT (+00:00) Guygun VS Nagisama + Show Spoiler +
At last, my favorite matchup. Pray for two port wraiths as two of the best low level terrans go head to head.
Match Six TBD 03:55 GMT (+00:00) Fl0i VS Arca(Crema) + Show Spoiler +
D-Rank ZvP always promises lots of fun. Arca grabbed silver in DRIT Season Two and is the favorite, but Fl0i is a very dangerous zerg that could take the Bo7.
Let's Do This! Alright, the matches are set! The next cast is scheduled to begin at 03:55 GMT (+00:00) on August Seventh. Be sure to vote and predict the winners. All winning players receive automatic bids to next season. Big thanks to all the support and for the efforts from the players!
Yes several other players mentioned you, and if either Terran rejects the bid you are the first to be invited . Your invite is definitely coming in Season 2!!

UPDATE: The Schedule has a small change. Floi VS Arca(Crema) will be played in match six, and Rexel VS L_Master will be played in match four. Also, the first cast is set for July 17th, to begin at 03:55 GMT (+00:00). I will hopefully be casting on a weekly basis but due to moving, etc. There may be a small break in regularity. Floi and Massssssss have accepted their invitations. Now only Rexel and GuyGun are left to accept their invites.
Yes there will most definitely be C Ranks showmatches. Possibly next season I will have three D Ranks matches and three C Ranks matches. With the ultimate goal of this developing into a cash prize backed showmatch series for top level ameteurs.
Awesome news! Two bonus shownatch casts are coming up July 11th and 12th starting at 23:55 EDT. One is between DRIT Seasons one and two winners Essbee and Babo. The other features two great D-Rank players in a Bo7!!
Nice casting, have watched VODs. Kinda frustrating, when there are something going on on the minimap, but you are talking about something and don't move screen for like 15 seconds.^^
1) Yea I messed up my upgrades in game 1 but usually P doesn't get many upgrades vs T (except attack upgrade), I THINK that saving gas for arb/ht/research is more important.
2) You can check out my series vs 4Adun if you want to see my opinion on carriers xD
3) Protoss should almost always be 1 base ahead of Terran.
4) "When you are ahead, get more ahead" ^^
5) IU did respond to me, series is going to be played on time.
Thanks for the updates and info. Babo! From my experience it seems worthwhile to double up forges after you take a third, just to make sure the tank army doesnt overrun the goons, but your arbiter control really carried the series.
As for results you can watch the VOD because I dont want to spoil it just yet.
Wait til some zergs come out, then I can sound like I know something.
The next showmatch cast is coming up next Tuesday at 23:55 EDT! Babo VS IU.
BTW Babo means 'fool' in Korean, was my ex's nickname for me and I was reminded of it by this song which I was listening to a lot when I made the name Baekin[BaBo] (white fool) on Fish:

Correct! The first match will be cast tomorrow. Check the times in the OP.

Obelisco as T? Something tells me that after playing his Z and P that his T is going to be just as evil...

It's invite only. Next season is gonna be formatted a little differently, with a wider range of talent.
UPDATE: MATCH TWO'S LIVE CAST IS NOW ON THE TL EVENTS CALENDAR. MATCH TWO IS SET TO BE CAST AT 03:55 GMT (+00:00) on JULY 24th. MATCH THREE IS SET TO BE CAST AT 03:55 GMT (+00:00) on JULY 28th. LEAVE YOUR PREDICTIONS IN THIS THREAD AND I'LL READ THEM DURING THE CAST.
From what I've seen of both players, EssBee is the better player. Well-rounded, good macro, good timings. Mass relies on early ling aggression in his games - a pattern that EssBee is sure to be aware of. When Mass's ling aggression gets denied, he sort of crumbles due to the fact that he spent early larva on ineffectual lings and his mid/late game play is weaker overall. Thus I predict that a cheese from Mass will take one game from EssBee but EssBee won't let it happen again and will win a sound victory.
Although I would say that Aeghrur is the better player overall, perhaps the best in this series of showmatches, he truly is bad at ZvZ. He always says so, and unfortunately it is true. In my opinion this is because he is a management player with a super-solid late game; his skills do not translate to ZvZ too well. I feel bad for him that he will have to play his worst MU in this series because I would have loved to see him in season 2 against a P or T. I don't have much information on Nikon's ZvZ but he is a strong player, so I expect his ZvZ to be better than Aeghrur's despite the fact that Aeghrur is probably better in the other 2 matchups. I think if Aeghrur invests a lot of effort in refining his ZvZ he might have a chance, but as is I give it to Nikon.
Hahaha a Bo7 ZvZ always has its share of craziness. Im excited to cast both series. Truly am. Also, I'm not exactly sure how many players from this season will be returning other than the guarunteed six, but I expect a wild card or two and maybe some new invites.

Nikon will 4-0 or 4-1 Aeghrur, no offense to aeghrur's skill... but Nikon's ZvZ is far superior.
Never ever count out anybody in a ZvZ. Usually it takes an absurdly good ZvZ player for me to say "yeah that other zerg has no chance." There's just so much that can go wrong (or right) in a ZvZ. Aeghrur is a talented player, and if he puts a lot of practice into his ZvZ he can take this series.
Essbee and Massssssss will be playing their matches tomorrow! The cast is set to start on time. Check the calendar on the right side if you aren't sure what time this is for you.
When you have the players send you reps you should have them make fake ones so there are always 7 reps. In your cast it was clearly only 4 games in the folder that you looked in every time ): Not only does it spoil the audience but it spoils you, the caster, as well. Usually casters try to avoid this ^^
On a personal note, it's rough being in a 3 zerg group with Bloody Ridge and Aztec as the first 2 maps ;-; And S2Glow in my group Dx
The reps are in for Aeghrur VS Nikon (Andddddd spoiler proof ) so tune in this Saturday at 23:55 EDT (check the calendar for your time) and watch the ZvZ showdown!
Btw the event on the calendar didn't have your stream posted last time, it was pretty inconvenient getting to your stream (had to click on the event itself which led to the event page, then the link to this thread, then the link at the bottom of the OP to get to the stream).

I turned my stream online and then associated it with the event. It should have had the stream just underneath the event. I'll have to figure this out next time. Weird.

Yea and even with that speed bump there were 60 viewers when I tuned in ^^ Things are getting serious! It was great initiative putting it on calendar in the first place, once you figure this out it will be even more on point.

Nahhh you'll be playing another winner from this season. I plan on having three D-Ranks games, Two C-Ranks games, and then a Main Event

Yes, looking at minimap is SO key. Also, I noticed that sometimes you miss things that are on the corner of the screen you are looking at - a few times you had a dropship or shuttle in sight (like, on your main screen) but were saying that you think it died/can't find it. Slow down and take your time, look around and such (:

Its actually pretty difficult to cast and obs at the same time. To achieve maximum efficiency, casting and obsing will have to be done by separate people. Which is why the Koreans commentators do not control the observing. Doing both by yourself, you'll need to be really pro.

Yes, constantly look at the minimap and go for the moving dots or the colored dots that shouldn't be there (harass and drops).
Keep moving around, even if it's for a second, you can actually spot that there is a drop while there is a big engagement, just spot the drop and comeback on the main point, it shows the audience what's going on. This is a small suggestions that makes a lot difference
I like the way you talk and you express yourself, I really have nothing to say about that. (I liked the comparison to Fantasy haha )
Keep going, you're doing an awesome job.
@Rlentless Oh I see, never thought about that, I'm not a caster myself so I wasn't sure.

This is true, not everyone sees everything, even the Korean obs. I think in-game skill helps a lot though, as your peripheral (sorta) vision widens and so does your minimap awareness.
EDIT: I think at the amateur level, having the duties split actually makes things close to impossible because of stream lag and the fact that two people do not share the same vision in this game. In other words, the person moving the screen around isn't synched with what the commentator is saying and vice versa. Also, obsing a game for commentary is totally different from obsing for yourself. So basically, I think that the best way is for one person to do it, but that person needs feedback like this to improve, no?
I'm working on my minimap watching skills. I think I've already come a long way. And Essbee its hard to keep up with so much harass!! Haha. Straight vicous in game two. Awesome play from Masssssss in that game as well.

Yes, I feel pretty confident late game in pretty much all matchups except a bit against zerg and Masssss is pretty good late game so I really needed to take an advantage during the mid-game so I didn't get overwhelmed. And as you said numerous times, his mid-game is weaker since he's throwing a lot in his early game so that's where I needed to do something but in game 2 he defended pretty well so it came to the late game where he pushed me to the verge of losing but I knew I had to harass more if I wanted to win. I love vultures
He has sick muta control too :O
Edit: Oh and by the way, the bunker cancelling in game 4 was intended, I usually do that when I see an allin since even with a bunker, he'll just run-by and you gotta unload your marines while he's harassing your mineral line. I pretty much always do that. Why would you recommend me to keep my bunker? You think it is ok if I keep building it and block the ramp with more scvs so he doesn't go in my base? I'm not too sure tbh but your reaction surprised me so I would like to hear your point of view.

Youre a much player than I'll ever be and no I liked your reaction to block with SCVs. At the time I just thought youd misclicked or were indecisive and had cost yourself the game potentially, but then I saw your plan.
I like what you are doing for the foreign scene theshimmy and I enjoyed your casting for Esbee v Mass . Your commentating is good and informative although you miss out some action on the map and that is forgiveable because commentating and observing in the game is no easy job . Looking forward to more show matches and vods casted by you .

Seconded. Great effort, on this and setting up the college league
I wanted to publicly thank Aeghrur and Nikon for an awesomely entertaining series. Seriously guys that was brilliant. Not my best bit of casting at all and my mini-map watching is still weak but my god that was fun.

Hahaha, glad you enjoyed it. I really have to thank Bakuryu for helping me choose some of the builds. The guy was a genius, and really helped me pull it off despite my terrible ZvZ. Glad it was fun to watch.
Also have to thank Obe for playing ZvZ and getting 10 hatch ling-all-inned by me over and over, lololololol.
