Seems like you saw a few games from ggaemo, such as his minesweeper against Upmagic, or this one - both terrible showings. When he entered the air force he was playing in the top form of his life for a while, taking games for ace left and right with dominating and sophisticated play.
imo the military-jaedong name is mostly based on him having been on oz before, and having had much practice with Jaedong shows when he's having a good day - sadly he is very inconsistent, fits well into the ACE practices in this regard.

What the hell?
1) People can cheer for whoever they want.
2) ggaemo deserves all the support he gets because he practices his ass off and tries his best.
3) The nickname is a joke. Jaedong and ggaemo were teammates. Repeat: the nickname is a joke.
4) If all you remember is 3 of his games then no wonder you have no clue why people cheer for him.
Hating on the progamers is about the dumbest thing you can do on TL. Without them you have no pro BW. And there will always be progamers with below-average winrates. That's what "average" means.
