It seems banal to say that human progress is tied to specialization. The erudite scholars of the 15th century, who pondered the nature of man, painted frescoes on cathedral ceilings and observed the nighttime stars while diddling the King's courtesans, dwindled into obscurity as religious faiths clashed. The broadminded aristocrats of the 18th century, who rode home from war to become merchants while pursuing scientific endeavors on the side, were swept away by revolutionary fervor. The larger than life industrialists of the 19th century who, from a single plot of land or drop of oil, built business empires spanning the globe, crumbled under the weight of their own monopolies. Today, to attain mastery in any field one must single-mindedly devote oneself to that pursuit.
Or that's what Coach Cho thought.
CJ Entus in the past.
But I ask you, what is a great PvZ if your dragoons march into a minefield? I ask you, what is a great TvT if a single lurker spine crucifies you? What is a great ZvP, if a handful of marines can sack your main? Skyhigh is a player who, when drenched in bear semen, can take on even Flash, yet he drops games to Modesty and Firefist. Effort is the fiercest ZvPer in the proscene after Jaedong, but he's on a 9 game losing streak versus Terrans. Movie is held back by his mediocre PvT, though right now he's the most solid-looking player on the team and clearly the one holding the fort.
CJ Entus today.
CJ Entus, victorious in the 2009 Winners League, finished second to last this time around. The Winners League was all about momentum -- players had to win multiple games in various matchups. The more well-rounded they were, the better their chances of making it past the snipes, the cheeses, the oh so annoying mirrors. Specialists will win a game in their best matchup, only to lose to any scrub sent out afterwards to abuse their weak matchups.
With the return of the standard Proleague format, can CJ's specialists shine once again? Will Skyhigh serve his purpose and take down Leta in a duel of the Flash-killers? Will Movie defeat hite's many middling Zergs? Will Effort find a way out of his slump? Will players like Snow make an appearance, providing fresh blood to the lineup? What about Idra, their great white hope -- will he be dragged away from SC2, screaming and kicking, to save the team?
It is a matter of life and death. Slumping hard, rocked by the foul winds of sleaze and corruption, CJ Entus will either be reborn, stronger than before, or wither away, remembered only for its past accomplishments.
Skyhigh started a fourth at 12, got denied by the mountain cat. But Skyhigh set up a few tanks at bottom right, to delay expoing.
Puma took bottom left instead, dropped Skyhigh's fourth again. Got counter-dropped and lost a sizeable amount of forces.
Skyhigh had taken 6. Discovered Puma's fourth when he floated his own CC over -- attacked it with his maynarding SCVs!
Puma attacked 6. Skyhigh attacked 12. Mining stopped at both bases. Skyhigh pushed across the center of the map. Puma didn't seem to have the best of macros. Went for a somewhat suicidal drop at bottom left, lost his forces immediately to a counter-drop.
BByong walls in at his nat and goes 1fact CC vs. Horang's 12nex. Probably not going to be able to apply any pressure at all, since he's not getting any vultures.
Zealots go up and pressure the wall a little, but the tank is there and they back off almost immediately. Range being upgraded for Horang2 with 2gates, while BByong adds on a 2nd factory.
Relatively fast starport from BByong. Not sure why, as it's a little too slow to really abuse the 12nex's late obs with a vulture mine drop.
Horang2 going for 12nex --> 2base arbiter.
Dropship loads up with 2vults and an SCV to take the island expansion very quickly. Aha, so that's what he had planned for the starport. SCV now building an ebay there.
BByong also drops off another vulture at the 3:00 island expansion, and lays a mine there to make sure P doesn't take it. Or maybe he'll take it himself in a minute.
Still no armory from Terran. P adding up to 8 gates now with 2base arbiter.
BByong taking the island. Transfers 8 SCVs there with the dropship, and ALSO taking his normal 3rd base. Protoss meanwhile is adding on his normal 3rd base as well, but he's behind the Terran in expansion timing.
2 shuttles being loaded and dropped at the 9:00 expansion, 1 shuttle gets taken out but the drop is successful.
Traitor mine kills all the SCVs!! Probably not that big of a deal, since the zlots and goons would have killed them anyways, but it still looked painful.
Larger number of vultures taking out P's 12 expansion, but P ignores it and just attacks terran. Not enough vultures and the zealots all get in the tanks. BByong loses everything.
Well, so much for his careful strategy and gameplan. Being ahead in bases does nothing if you just get run over like that. He had his tanks really nicely spread but no mines and no vultures around to protect them from the speedlots.

effort pushed in with lings, got 4 left after fighting hogil + sunken. gets a few drones and harass in the main, but now hogil's lings are all rushing to effort's base.
Effort going in! Hogil positions his zerglings to block the runby. Effort has a lot more lings and wins the fight despite the sunk, but doesn't have too many left.
Some REALLY great multitasking by Hogil, pulling the two low HP drones at his natural and not losing any there. He still loses 2 in his main though.
Mutalisks out now for Effort. Hogil delaying them with his lings, takes out at least 1 drone, maybe 2.
Effort also loses a mutalisk to naked scourge. Not very good micro there. Then he loses another mutalisk to just scourge, but Hogil's out of mutalisks and losing drones.
Then he loses ANOTHER mutalisk to scourge. Effort being sloppy with his muta micro here.
hogil lost all of his mutas, drones getting sniped now. this looks like its the end for hogil. scourge pop up in time for hogil and get the mutas on the run
Such a sloppy game from Effort. He completely had that, but then he lost a ton of mutas to scourge and threw it away. And then powered way too many drones and just had nothing to fight.
On April 12 2010 19:30 Mystlord wrote: Oh my God if Effort hadn't lost those Mutalisks earlier to those Scourge... He'd be so far ahead it wouldn't even be possible for Hogil to climb back.
Those types of games make it really seem like game fixing exists, although its very very unlikely considering the recent revelation and investigations. it's pretty baffling that a profession player could be THAT bad
Just got done reading the "Illegal gambling" thread and yeah, assuming a list is confirmed in the future, I wouldn't be surprised to see Effort or other CJ members on it. And once that happens, I don't see how I can be a fan of CJ anymore.

oh ffs. if effort was on that list, he wouldn't be on the roster anymore. everyone needs to calm down. effort has been slumping for ages now, he wouldn't get paid to throw every single game.

Exactly. Right now is the least likely time for players to be throwing games, what with the investigations going on.

It doesn't matter if Effort is slumping. There is no doubt that was purposely thrown and not just a normal loss.
Either way, he deserves to get thrown off the A team and B team for such a bad performance.

or maybe that EXACTLY what they would do... throw a match so hard that it seemingly justifies all of your past losses as simply bad play. hm? anyways hopefully Leta finishes this so Effort doesnt get score a point just from losing the ace match

Yeah, lineups not being revealed ahead of time really screws with betting.
Anyways, on the game:
Once again seeing a 12nex from Protoss. Leta looks like he's opening for an FD, but he's going to scout Snow last so he won't have any chance at all to pressure the 12nex properly.

I don't care if this was match fixing or just horrendous play. This type of play doesn't deserve to be in CJ's A team. It's irresponsible.
If a player does not perticipate in the lineup before ace match he cannot be ace am i right ? In that case why not send Movie, cjs best player right now ?? Whats going on..?

no, Ace often sends a player who did not play the first 4 games for the ACE match

I wasn't aware of this rule. I'm pretty sure you can send anyone, it's just uncommon because you want to send your best player and you also want your best player to play in an earlier set.
I'm pretty sure I've seen SKT1 use Fantasy or Bisu in an Ace match when they didn't play in one of the first 4.
Leta just taking his natural now. Very late expansion. He needs to do a LOT more damage with this drop for it to be worth it, but Snow already has goons positioned in his main to get ready to stop it.
fail, almost drops on top of the goons, but snow doesnt react in time so vults get quite a few kills. leta drops on top of the ramp, Snow fakes a counter-drop
2 tanks dropped on the ledge above the expansion, but Snow already has a shuttle, so he fights it off with ease. Leta's expansion is mining now, and snow looks like he wants to push across the map and pressure with goons.
Leta loses all his tanks at the front, but his emergency bunker is up just in time. Goons backing off a little to shoot at it now, but Snow's going in again, sniping the tank but losing a lot of goons in the process.
that was bad =/ not an ideal position for tanks to be placed right behind bunker. Snow going to attack with shuttle full of lots. Leta with no, make that 1 tank

Definitely have a point there. Should have worded my post better...
Mad at effort playing like shit.
And even more mad after the thread if it happens to be true.
Just playing devil's advocate... wouldn't now be a good time to continue playing poorly/throwing games? Why change all of a sudden, that just throws more suspicion on you?
No way Leta's going to be able to defend the carriers. He lost a TON of tanks defending that goon pressure, so he's going to be desperate to rebuild his tank count for defense. And he has no upgrades (does he even have an armory?)

Dropship moving across the top of the map and now down the left side. Snow say it with an observer and moves goons to intercept, but then pulls them back.

lol this is exactly what i said. Throw that game, make it look like you are in a huge slump and playing terribly. that way it looks like all of your past losses were just cause you sucked, rather than because you were losing on purpose. winning convincingly might actually be MORE suspicious
Oh no, dropship gets taken out before it gets into the main, and also before it sees the carriers.
But now the carriers attack a spider mine, and Leta knows it's on. Goliath range started, and he's trying to throw down turrets but it's too late. Only 2 carriers out for Snow, though . . . and Leta does have 6facts of production.
Leta adding a 4th CC in his main to float off later, Snow at 4 base right now with 4 carriers. actually questioning Snow's decision, seems like a really bad map for carriers since Leta's 3 bases are sooo close to each other
Leta has a fairly large army of goliaths out already. 3stargates producing carriers for Snow, who has 4base and is taking his 5th at 9. Leta has 3base and is taking his 4th soon at 12
ground army attacks while gols out of position, Leta loses most of his tanks and cant defend the carriers at bottom well. But snow pulls back a little, at 8 carriers now
Snow carelessly walking his ground army into a large number of tanks and losing everything. Now he just has the carriers, but he has 7bases and 7 stargates so he'll be able to get a whole lot of them.
tons of carriers for snow, but no ground army anymore. also, lots of exposed expos. leta really needs to send some tanks to clean up. carriers are still trying to break leta's nat, unsuccessfully.
Leta losing his 4th CC here, though it stays in red HP for a very long time with that many SCVs repairing. Lifting off and getting some more SCVs in to repair might have saved it.
there we go, leta sending a group of vultures to 8 oclock, they manage to take down the nexus just in time, as goons and zealots are seconds from killing them.
meanwhile snow's carriers take down leta's CC in his nat, and are overpowering the goliaths.
leta has taken care of mining out of 2 of snow's expos on the left, but snow is all over the place, with this econ he can keep the interceptors coming back for a long time, leta cant keep on defending like this, as he is almost mined out.

What? Snow won . . . why would he risk losing the game and throwing away his lead just for the hope of wearing down Leta slightly more.
Did you watch the game? Snow never completely went in, made cannons at all his seven expos and had full tech and upgrades starting.
He was never even close to losing.
Yeah, but he was constantly poking in as much as he could and being pretty aggressive with his carriers. I don't think that there was ever a point where he could have clearly won the game with his carriers but pulled out instead.
I suppose the decision to go carriers in the first place leads to a situation where Terran's multitasking will really be stretched and he might get worn down, but that decision was made well before he had 100% secured the win.

Also doesn't allow the teran to move most of his army for map control, since they have to be back home to stop the carriers. It's what allowed Snow to take the entire map, with leta not being able to spare more than a few vultures.
Hogil getting a sunk and a spore at his 3rd to prepare for the sair/dt push. Really nice sim city on that sunk there with the two evolution chambers. Movie has to back off without doing much.

Hogil refusing to move out to try and take it down. Probably too scared of DTs.
Yeah, since he still doesn't have overlord speed. Nice timing by Movie, knowing that Hogil wouldn't be able to move out early enough to stop the 3rd from going up due to DT map control.
Hogil counter-attacking Movie's 4th! Hogil holds his own expo with nicely spread lurkers, and manages to take down all the cannon's and probes at Movie's 4th at the same time. Movie manages to save the Nexus, though, and responds by just throwing down a 5th base before Zerg.
Movie has too many bases. Hogil trying to catch up by taking a 5th and 6th at the same time, but a DT harasses the 5th annoyingly. Even if he gets it up, Movie's on 5 bases and will be able to build an unstoppable death ball army (probably).
Movie going into Hogil's 5th (bottom left) base! Looks like he's going to take it out with ease. Meanwhile Hogil is going into Movie's 3:00 expansion, and takes it out.

Hite is such a team of cowards. :p
I'm pretty sure they didn't send him because they knew it would be Movie, as he's the obvious ace -- his PvT is good enough to take on Leta's mediocre TvP, and he doesn't get rolled by Zergs like so many other tosses.
Wait, how did Hogil get 5 points in fantasy? He appeared/won (3 pts), then he appeared/lost (0 pts), his team lost (2-3, 0 pts). I see 3. Screwing over my fantasy

OK it's official. Movie is a BEAST. First taking out Stork and Bisu (especially Stork), he then dismantled THE ZvP sniper of Hite who smiled on his way down when he saw his opponent was Movie. If we wins against Baby in OSL, oh man oh man.
