Representatives of On-Media announced today that their subsidiary, Ongamenet, would cease "major operations" after the upcoming Starcraft finals between Lee Jae Dong and Jung Myung Hoon, scheduled to take place on April 4th. No details were given as to which programs or events on the channel, if any, would survive the scaleback. However, On-Media explicitly stated that the Starleague planned for Spring and Summer '09 will not occur, mostly due to the company's inability to find a suitable sponsor for the event.
Park Hee Kyu, a vice-president of On-Media, delivered the sudden news in a short statement. He gave the reason for the drawdown as "an unwillingness to sponsor any long-term event, given the shrinking nature of the Korean economy."
"The suddenness of this announcement must be striking for all of our viewers. It is a surprise to our executives as well how external financial support for our programs was withdrawn so quickly and without warning."
"We are working hard to ensure that, as money becomes more freely available, Ongamenet will return, along with all of the programs we provide today."
MBC Game executives expressed shock at the news. An source within the company stated that MBC has already secured sponsorship for the upcoming MSL from an unnamed MMORPG.
Tomorrow, on April 2nd, Ongamenet will release information about its new broadcasting schedule, including whether the planned "Old Star" event planned for this summer will take place as planned.

i find it funny that your post starts off by berating him for not being elaborate and careful enough and your third paragraph begins by stating that "There is no reason to try so hard to be funny." i don't think that motbob's plan was to be " known as 'that guy' who made the epic April Fools thread." so it's perfectly fine if his joke isn't the perfect april fool's joke. i certainly enjoyed it. also, it's rather difficult to pull off the perfect april fools joke on a large forum like TL's anyways as there's bound to be someone claiming that it's an april fool's joke on the first page; in fact in this particular thread the second reponse was one that immediately suggested that it was an april fool's topic, which would have put people on guard regardless how much effort put into the prank. your post seems overly critical of a lighthearted april fool's attempt making it seem that it's instead you who's "completely missing the point."

Wow - I am so, so glad this isn't real. For me it'd mean the end of pretty much everything because there's no way I'd ever stay in South Korea with only the MBC Hero Centre to go to. I have made some wonderful friends here, but the stress of teaching english/my terrible health and the lack of the OGN studios (basically my second home with a wonderfully kind crew, great casters and journalists and a lot of fond memories.) would end my e-sports photography career in all likelihood. Even thinking about something like this as a joke makes me feel sick.

I thought about the much-used WWE metaphor and thought about whether wrestling might shut its doors temporarily. I actually think it's plausible that both SC and wrestling would scale back operations during a recession.

I think this thread takes the cake as the best april fools of the year here on TL.net. And it also had some fierce competition. This site is overflowing with april fools joke .
I came here and the four first threads I read were all april fools. I thought "this one is a joke", "this one is a joke too" and "omg, another april fools".
Neither of these fooled me, but I thought that this thread was the more interesting and more well done, gratz.
