Interview with Jaedong

'Tyrant' Jaedong, "If I get the chance, I will all-kill CJ"

You performed an all kill.
- I was slightly worried because I felt that KTF had become stronger recently but I’m happy that our team was able to advance in the playoffs like this. This time my goal was to get at least 3 kills so I’m very satisfied with my all kill.

Were you confident in completing an all kill.
- Even before the match began I was very confident. I thought to myself that I wouldn’t lose. Because that was my mindset, I think my games went smoothly. Even while playing I felt that an all kill was very much possible. As soon as I completed the all kill, I was very proud of myself.

If you had to pick the hardest match tonight…
- The last match was intense so I think it was the hardest. From the opening I think the game was in my favor but Rush Hour 3 itself is terran favored so until the end I tried very hard not to lose focus. I think my will power was the power behind my win.

In the 1st set you showed some amazing game play.
- In the first match the build order was against me so if I did not gain an advantage I knew I would simply lose the game. But my opponent haphazardly attacked and so I think I was able to win the game.

A direct showdown between you and Forgg unfolded.
- I knew it was going to happen. Because we know each other so well I didn’t really feel too pressured going into the game.

You’ve been all-killed by KTF’s Flash.
- I practiced hard enough to not think about that game all that much. I just made a promise to myself that I would do my job to help get my team to the finals. People were worried that if I lost from the start the team would be in a dangerous position but that acted as a stimulus for me to practice for all situations so that I wouldn’t get sniped.

You now have to play CJ in the finals.
- In the regular season our team lost to them. I know this is just about stats but if we had won there we would have gone straight to the finals as 1st place. When I lost to Skyhigh we were taken out so I felt it was just very inconvenient. Just as this is a new opportunity, I will prepare hard and get revenge. If the chance arrives, I will perform an all kill on CJ.

Last words?
- The passion of all the fans who came to cheer was so amazing that I could even feel it while I was in the booth. I received a lot of strength from the cheering. Also, after the match was over, my teammates were upset they didn’t get a chance to say hi to forgg (laughs). Next time if there’s an opportunity I think it’d be nice if we can at least go out and get food together.

Original Korean Interview:
+ Show Spoiler +

Interview with Hwaseung Coach Jo

Hwaseung Coach JoJungOong, "I turn the honor onto my players"

Your feelings on making it to the finals.
- After the vacation, we only practiced for 4 days so I think the result was better than I imagined. I’m thankful for the great performance by Jaedong and I want to turn this honor onto the players who practiced hard for today’s match.

It’s the first all kill of the post season.
- Rather than the score I believe the record is more important. Because Jaedong is setting many records in Esports I’m very happy. Like this I think our team will be known as the team with many records in Esports.

If you had to evaluate today’s game.
- I was sure Forgg would come out in the 2nd set. The biggest concern was the 3rd set. We thought a terran would come out but Luxury came out instead. However, we trusted Jaedong’s zerg skills and watched over him. Although Rush Hour 3 is a hard map for zerg, but because we were on a momentum I thought we could win. I a bit greedily anticipated an all kill but the fact that Jaedong was able to fulfill an all kill made me very satisfied. Many people were worried that sending out Jaedong would end up with a result like the last playoffs but we believed that that wouldn’t happen.

How did you prepare?
- We had a lot of time to prepare so I wondered if they should spend that time preparing but we haven’t had a break in a while so I decided to give them a long break this time. I think the result was that the players rested well and their game play strengthened.

Now you will play CJ in the finals.
- We’ve won once before against CJ in the finals. But this season it seems CJ has gotten stronger so we definitely won’t lose focus. I will care for my players so that they don’t feel pressured that it’s the finals but practice in a comfortable atmosphere.

If you had to pick an important deciding factor in the finals?
- I was hoping that in the 4th set, Tau Cross would be picked but Rush Hour 3 was chosen instead. I think the crucial factor will be where we decide to place Jaedong in the lineup.

Who is the player on CJ to watch out for most?
- In the Winners League, Jaedong lost futilely against Skyhigh. So I hope this time the same matchup can occur. I believe the players to watch out for most on CJ are Skyhigh and Savior.

How are you going to prepare for the next round?
- Because I’m thinking more broadly, in the 4th and 5th round I’m going to use a different system of practice. I will use the mindset that the last person laughing is the victor and not forget my original purpose as I prepare for it.

Mindset before the finals?
- I believe we need to spread the name of Hwaseung to more people. Because a lot of company persons are cheering for us, even if it’s solely for our company we must win.

Last words?
- With the same passion we prepared for the finals I hope we can prepare for the finals and show good results.

Original Korean Interview:
+ Show Spoiler +

Thanks for the translation.

If CJ beats Lecaf, they're basically the best true team this round. CJ has no monster players but they've been strong and steady unlike T1, Lecaf, and KTF who have many star players but have fallen here and there.

Great translation, thanks a lot.

I thought the games today were fantastic and I'm really pleased Jaedong won.

Also the strategy he used in game 4 was satisfying. I always use hydralisks myself and it's nice to see the top players consider it a decent strategy.

I've forgotten how important and great Skyhigh's snipe was for CJ. Once again the key to beat Hwaseung will be to snipe Jaedong.

I thought his name was Coach Cho? Weren't both CJ and Lecaf coaches named Cho? Weird......

Jaedong with the sick all kill. Too bad CJ is going to win the finals =D There's so many possibilities for a Jaedong snipe. Iris, Skyhigh, Much, maybe even Movie or Memory. This is going to be a sick finals.

Wow.

Jaedong is amazing. The interview is kinda disapointing though. We didnt learn that much and the answer looked almost premade, typical.

Rofl @ the hair pic.

I'm disapointed this series ended after 4 games, I wanted to see more matches, but seeing jaedong get an all kill was worth it I suppose.

Jaedong played brilliantly vs forggs metal build, he did the usual mass expo counter to metal but was careful to keep sunkens and a flock of mutas around to protect his drones from vulture harass. The defiler use to soften up the metal push then the swap from gound to mass muta to seal the deal was awesome to watch. I often wonder why zergs don't attempt to use such tactics vs metal since defiler seems like such an obvious counter but I guess few zergs have the macro to pull it off as effectively as jaedong.

Game 4 was my favorite, ended up watching it twice, it was just so intense. I was holding my breath when flash walked by jaedongs sneaky defenseless 9 o clock expo early on. The switch from lurker/ling to many hydras/defilers to counter the insane 3 starport vessels flash was pumping out was nuts. I don't how jaedong seemed to come in with endless reinforcements to stop the endless waves of terran infantry, especially when jaedong was on the frits when his 9 oclock and 2 o clock expos went down mid game.

I think he's referring more to the fact that Flash is 4-8 in his last twelve games.

Oh yeah true, my mistake, I based it upon that many draw conclusions like this when someone lose a game ^^

Well, Flash has actually lost a few games, but you cannot win everything right?

It's not about winning everything, Flash is definitely not playing at his optimal level right now. The frustration is evident on his face. It's much more than the typical reaction to a loss.

yeah, they're really a team...Oz will have a hard time preparing their sniper...coz vs CJ is not only "When" but also "Who"...

Yes, that is a real problem. OZ has a few backups for Jaedong, but he really needs to take out at least 2 of CJ for OZ to win it.

And therein lies the question: does the OZ coach put Jaedong out first again? That was a ballsy move he did against KTF, letting them put together their snipers and trusting Jaedong to muscle through them.

This time, I don't think that's the right way to go. Sniping is all about being able to adapt your game to your enemies, and CJ has a lot of good, flexible players. And they only need to get one win on Jaedong for it to all fall apart.

I think the best way to play it is to actually hide Jaedong. The designated CJ Jaedong-snipers will have spent the last week (if not longer) studying Jaedong's style (such that it is) and preparing for him. If OZ instead trusts some of the heavy lifting to non-Jaedong players, it could catch CJ slightly off balance. It could also leave OZ open to being down 2-3 games before they're forced to employ the Tyrant.
So you know, cats are interesting. They are kind of like girls. If they come up and talk to you, it's great. But if you try to talk to them, it doesn't always go so well. - Shigeru Miyamoto
