The commentary through out the games was very informative and clear, however my suggestion would be to have more preperation done so you have something to talk about between games or when during the lulls in the game.

yeah we kind of just winged it, i had like maybe a comment or two jotted down for some of the matchups but we basically had no preparation.

I'm trying to sync up the games and put them on youtube. It would be too much work to figure out what to do with all the talking in between games (as entertaining as it was), so I'm just going to sync up the games, mostly.

Anyway, I have the first game up already, and I'll be doing the rest this week when I find the time..

Game 1:
Part 1, Part 2

I guess I could come back and edit this post or make new replies, but it'd probably be easier for people to just keep an eye on the VioleTAK youtube account since I'll be uploading them there.

yeah i knew it'd be problematic about the excitement level as chill and i both aren't the most energetic of casters, but we didn't set out to really describe what was happening because we knew people were watching the streams and didn't need it. so we tried to focus on talking about what was going on rather than telling the audience what was going on, and it's pretty difficult to get excited about analysis.

listening to myself talk i found a ton of errors and ways to improve. i need to smooth out my delivery and think a bit more ahead of what i am saying. also, i had a ton more stuff to say but never did because i didn't plan out how to say stuff very well. still, it was our first time so hopefully we'll have opportunities to do better.

I'll make a stylistic note in the video description for all of the people that are too used to me yelling, rambling, and making funny noises.

Game 2 is up.

Appreciate the feedback.

We consciously made the decision not to feign excitement but I think we took it WAY too far. I listened to it and we sound bored and boring for most of it. I think sometimes english casters sound fake in their excitement and that's why we decided to avoid that. But I think we really need to do the opposite and make a conscious decision to be excited or else you get monotone casting for three and a half hours. And we're not the most excitable people either. I expect Youtube to hate us since we sound WAY more amateurish than Moletrap/Diggity/Klazart, and we are boring to listen to and don't even call the play haha :X.

I think the back-and-forth between Hot_Bid and myself was a little too formulaic. If we had three people it would probably be better. Moletrap/Diggity, how did you guys decide who was going to talk when you did it? I was thinking of having the Vent chat open and whoever has something to say types 'next' or something. The problem with this is if no one types next, then who talks? Also the fact that we weren't really reading the chat. If we can solve this problem it might be interesting to just have a ton of commentators and have at 'er. Hmm on second thought that might be a disaster lol.

As for the in between games, Hot_Bid mentioned we should prepare stuff for that but I said I didn't even want to cast in between because I had nothing to say. I think Hot_Bid had random notes but other than that we just went in cold. I think we should have got more people just in the Vent so we could round-table reactions more. Kennigit helped a lot in that regards.

What do people think of the banter in between games? Would you prefer it to move more towards professionalism, setting up the next game, reviewing the past game, etc? Or move away, trash talking each other, talking about random shit, etc?

I think the actual meat of the commentary was good, despite the fact that I missed A LOT of stuff. after rewatching it. Somehow I didn't see that Evolution Chamber in the Kwanro game even though I was watching the game super closely. Obviously this commentary isn't going to appeal to the casual audience because the excitement levels are extremely low. I don't really care about that, but I feel like TL members would benefit from a little more excitement. I also blame the games, as there were 4 rapes, 1 decent 2v2, and a really nice game

I dunno, I'm just putting my thoughts down here so people can hopefully use them to add their own suggestions.

Thanks a lot Moletrap for taking the time to sync that, much appreciated.

Why don't you guys get someone else to do play by play? A guy like Klaz can basically spice up your commentaries ten fold.
Keep it simple stupid.

Oh I also forgot to mention about "calling the game too soon". It really bugs me when commentators are like "he'll needed unbelievable play to come back" when the game is clearly over.

Basically I can sum up saying that the style of commentating I tried was a result of trying to fix errors I see others make, but we clearly took it too far in one direction. Hopefully we get a second chance to try again :D

because people are watching the stream, and they don't need to be read what is happening. they can see that with their own eyes. if you have someone there calling the play just to "spice things up" then theres not enough time for actual analysis. i found after rewatching that there was a ton of stuff i missed and didn't say, and we barely had any dead time during the matches.

because we're mostly looking to focus more on strategy (because the action is right on your screen)
plus klazart has shown that his attitude stinks (http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?currentpage=1&topic_id=65577)

Something to look into... either changing ourselves or adding a third. I think we're afraid of the commentary being dominated by emotional play-by-play. We don't want people being read to them what's happening on the screen, but we took it too far not even mentioning when good moves were happening. Either way something needs to change.

Analysis is nice and all and understandably you guys want it to be your focal point. But watching a starcraft match should also be entertaining, you don't want your audience member to fall asleep at their keyboards. Play by play gives the audience the ability to zone out, there's nothing wrong with having someone basically hand holding you and saying what's going on. A great emotional play by play can take a boring crap match like hiya vs much and make it presentable and worth watching. It'll elimate dead zone, cause since you sharing mic time, you'll be ready whenever you have something to say. There's really very little negative at all.
Keep it simple stupid.
