VOD Hub up thanks to chiflutz;

86.121.175.144:1090 or TLnet.mine.nu:1090, use a client like DC++ for best results, also forward ports etc etc.

For safety sakes, please put your name as your TL.net username.

I WANT ONE <3

I have a 400gb just waiting to be filled with VODs <3

edit: Exactly how does the hub work? My brother had DC++ and he downloaded like 5 trillion music files and his speed was off the wall :O

Is this like torrent or something?

I'm already sharing around 15Gb of vods on DC++, so just let me know if you set up a hub. I'll be there.

Hmm, if this happens I'll need an external HD as well.

We should share replays as well on the hub.

I may not be an expert in direct connect but isn't bittorrent a far more efficient data distribution technologie?

I would rather suggest putting up a proper tracker / indexer to make it easy(ier) to search for files.

Edit: 5 min of googling strongly suggest to me to forget about direct connect, as it is, in fact, sooo 20th century. Bittorrent is superior in any way.

Yes, bittorrent is a far more efficient data distribution technology, but the problem with all torrent trackers is that torrents die, i.e. aren't seeded anymore after a certain amount of time. This, compounded with the fact that most people here happen to have (somewhat large) repositories of vods, make a DC hub a good idea.

Hosting one isn't a problem, it doesn't require much bandwidth. But we can do something a bit less technical - use IRC to share them.

The concept is similar, except it's done on an IRC channel. You need to setup a search bot and people that want to share get a script for their client. People search and download via DCC. It's more copy/paste, as opposed to point-and-click for DC clients.

Either way, the idea sounds fine. Want me to do some searching and help set it up, just say so. I know lots of people on IRC have bots up and running.

How is this different from ANY p2p system? As long as users share (seed) the better protocol yields better results. If users don't share (seed) no protocol whatsorever will help.

Hosting one isn't a problem, it doesn't require much bandwidth. But we can do something a bit less technical - use IRC to share them.

(Number of users/20)^2 kbit/s - that's for the protocol alone, without any data transfer.

Don't get me wrong, if it works I won't mind at all, I'd love such a service! :-)
But I seriously doubt it will.

I've just checked on my hard-drive and I buggered up the copying. All the folder names are on it but the folders themselves are empty. No idea what happened. It does however mean I am missing several complete starleagues and hundreds of proleague vods. Most of which are no longer seeded. If I am to salvage my collection I'd need this kind of thing.

@zatic - ...what ?
You compared bittorrent with the dc protocol. I don't even get what you're arguing there. And I don't really wanna know where you got that formula.

Anyway, if anyone wants to help me test it, get on IRC. :D.

Tested, works and stuff.

TLnet.mine.nu:1090 - open to everyone.

Edit: DynDNS takes a bit of time to propagate new hostnames, use 86.121.175.144, port 1090 in the meantime.

I don't see what's hard to understand about it. But let me rephrase:

The formula is an estimate from the ADC developers, the guys who developed the initial direct connect protocol. Ah, right, you didn't really want to know, sorry :-)

Anyway, I'll check it out when I get off work.

Ping tlhub.mine.nu and see what that comes up with. IP is 86.121.175.144, in case the DNS didn't propagate already.

The formula is an estimate from the ADC developers, the guys who developed the initial direct connect protocol.

That's the worst-case scenario, everyone's passive, communication is done exclusively via hub. Still, for 500 people (or 500 concurrent connections, anyway), according to their formula, that would amount to 625 kbps, or roughly 80 KB/s.

Yeah, I think I'll be able to play dota just fine in the meantime. But why are bandwidth concerns so important since there will be this obvious lack of activity?

Really, I don't see the problem. Someone makes something for everyone on TL, you use it if you wanna. If it benefits you. Now enjoy. DNS issue should be sorted out in 12-36 hours, depending on your location. I doubt my IP will change in the meantime.

With Revconnect you can download one file from multiple users at the same time. I use this and it works great actually.. I'm sure there are other clients that works like this aswell.

<Hub> Dropping unknown connection: temp banned

I have no control over connection-based flood protection, so you're gonna have to throttle your connection attempts. Failing that, use a different client. Sorry GI, nevake.

I noticed you got in, tho. :D

L2W, I have 350 spare gigs, lemme know how much that collection weighs.

Cant connect either (didnt respond)... :/ Also ping to that IP gives timeout, so maybe you're just offline.

If you need help with hosting in european timezone I guess I could help out. My computer is on all day anyway (not night), and I'm on a good connection.

EDIT: yay, I'm in! thanks!

I'm still banned now. I'm not even connecting excessively - I just start DC, notice I fail, and then shut it off.

Okay, after being banned twice as well I scrapped that server and now I'm running PtokaX, which is quite good. At least I can see why people get banned.

It seems the old one didn't support TTH searching and had a weird way of disconnecting people because of it.

Sorry, I never actually hosted a hub before. We should be fine now.

Edit: Oh, same IP/hostname : port.

I think this might be because you're on a passive connection (settings) so that means you can only connect to active connection users and not other passive users. You need to get directly connected.

edit: Actually I'm having problems connecting to everyone as well. On other hubs I can connect to everyone. Not sure why.

port forward 1090 inbound and outbound, then in DC++ settings under the connection bit, input 1090 in all 3 ports and choose Firewall port forwarded or w/e. and then also input your external IP in the box. that should do it

IP changed, please use the hostname - tlhub.mine.nu - from now on. Same port, 1090.

i put in my ip, put in 1090 for all 3 slots, selected firewall with manual port forwarding and typed in my IP

Even with the older version pics they use it's pretty straightforward.

Anyone have the same problem as me, where when you starting getting a file list or a download the speed starts strong and then slowly but surely drops into bytes and then 0 and then timeouts?

Out of curiosity, is this project permanently dead? It'd be a very nice, convenient, and quick way for people to grab VODs instead of downloading them through torrents (for example, many universities block torrents) or searching for them through other means.

I was under the impression that it wasn't possible to access outside hubs from inside the university firewall. DC hubs on the local networks at uni is great though.

I think no one was really interested in it then it died down after the initial hype.
