I have a 400gb just waiting to be filled with VODs <3 edit: Exactly how does the hub work? My brother had DC++ and he downloaded like 5 trillion music files and his speed was off the wall :O Is this like torrent or something?

I would rather suggest putting up a proper tracker / indexer to make it easy(ier) to search for files. Edit: 5 min of googling strongly suggest to me to forget about direct connect, as it is, in fact, sooo 20th century. Bittorrent is superior in any way.

Hosting one isn't a problem, it doesn't require much bandwidth. But we can do something a bit less technical - use IRC to share them. The concept is similar, except it's done on an IRC channel. You need to setup a search bot and people that want to share get a script for their client. People search and download via DCC. It's more copy/paste, as opposed to point-and-click for DC clients. Either way, the idea sounds fine. Want me to do some searching and help set it up, just say so. I know lots of people on IRC have bots up and running.

How is this different from ANY p2p system? As long as users share (seed) the better protocol yields better results. If users don't share (seed) no protocol whatsorever will help. Hosting one isn't a problem, it doesn't require much bandwidth. But we can do something a bit less technical - use IRC to share them. (Number of users/20)^2 kbit/s - that's for the protocol alone, without any data transfer. Don't get me wrong, if it works I won't mind at all, I'd love such a service! :-) But I seriously doubt it will.

You compared bittorrent with the dc protocol. I don't even get what you're arguing there. And I don't really wanna know where you got that formula. Anyway, if anyone wants to help me test it, get on IRC. :D. Tested, works and stuff. TLnet.mine.nu:1090 - open to everyone. Edit: DynDNS takes a bit of time to propagate new hostnames, use 86.121.175.144, port 1090 in the meantime.

The formula is an estimate from the ADC developers, the guys who developed the initial direct connect protocol. That's the worst-case scenario, everyone's passive, communication is done exclusively via hub. Still, for 500 people (or 500 concurrent connections, anyway), according to their formula, that would amount to 625 kbps, or roughly 80 KB/s. Yeah, I think I'll be able to play dota just fine in the meantime. But why are bandwidth concerns so important since there will be this obvious lack of activity? Really, I don't see the problem. Someone makes something for everyone on TL, you use it if you wanna. If it benefits you. Now enjoy. DNS issue should be sorted out in 12-36 hours, depending on your location. I doubt my IP will change in the meantime.

<Hub> Dropping unknown connection: temp banned I have no control over connection-based flood protection, so you're gonna have to throttle your connection attempts. Failing that, use a different client. Sorry GI, nevake. I noticed you got in, tho. :D L2W, I have 350 spare gigs, lemme know how much that collection weighs. ![]()

It seems the old one didn't support TTH searching and had a weird way of disconnecting people because of it. Sorry, I never actually hosted a hub before. We should be fine now. Edit: Oh, same IP/hostname : port.
