<vs Free>
Q. Did you check zealot first opening vs Free with SCV scout?
I don't miss stuff like that.
Q. Why he decided to do a timing attack
Saw free's adun with dropship. Because of this, I knew there wasn't any possibility of Reaver tech. Since I already got complete map vision with mines, skipped even getting siege mode.
Held making up to 5 facts until latest time possible. I had easy time getting 3rd due to mines. I also thought I was not disadvantaged at all at that point, but when I checked replay, i was a bit behind.
There were mines at Free's 3rd, and thanks to that, I was able to get good engagement when attacked with timing.
It didn't matter even if it was blocked. To block that attack I did, Free was forced to put all his focus into macro and fighting, while I was able to tech up while pushing out and keeping up macro at the same time.
I baited out and forced out the multi-tasking battle.
<G1 vs Snow>
I didn't know Snow would be so greedy in PvP with 1gate FE when it was against random me.
I was bit stumped there. My original plan was to do ninja expo with speed shuttle. If i didnt find out him going FE at natural, even if my ninja base was operation, I would not be in good position.
From this point, I began to have upper hand, and began to do fake out so that I prevent opponent from finding out my natural timing.
To hide fact that I skipped dragoon range, I avoided attacking with dragoons as well
<G2 vs Snow>
As soon as I saw Snow's nexus first, I thought "this guy is freaking crazy". I felt like he sucker punched me. But my unit control was really good today. So I won.

Those comments vs Free really shows the depth of thought that goes into games at pro level. Absolutely nuts

Did you mean micro and fighting?

Thanks so much jinjin!
Would love to hear Snow's thoughts vs Flash as well. Seems like Snow may have mind-gamed himself. Going FFE against Flash's random means he expects Flash to macro cheese, regardless of race. Also, as evident in G2, Snow probably underestimated Flash's ballsy-ness to fight head-on in a mirror match.
Snow may have just unwittingly scared the shit out of the rest. Sure, Flash's micro as Z and P may not be as good as theirs. But his fearlessness and flexibility will definitely stress them out even more.
Flash definitely scored a huge psychological win last night.

I’m thinking the match ups Odds at this point look like this:
TvZ/P/T: 80/20
PvT: 60/40 PvZ/P: 50/50
ZvT: 40/60 ZvZ/P: 20/80
The only reason I think his ZvT is that high is his unique understanding of the matchup. Similarly for PvT.
Only ZvZ/P Is his Biggest weakneas. But sense there is only 1 Terran left, it’s very likely he will have to play a series where 33% of the time, this will be the case
|
I feel that Flash's ZvP will be quite strong. He excels in early game when he's able to exert map control and pressure. Flash "'hydra good unit" swarm mode will terrorise any Protoss going FFE (or force them to play more conservatively).
That said, with Best and Snow still around, his odds will be lower this particular ASL.

I doubt anyone's going to FFE against him: it'd be blindly choosing a build that's not even that advantageous against flash's worst race at the cost of instantly losing the game if he gets terran or protoss.

Thank you very much for this jinjin.
Any chance you can share with us what the reaction from the korean netizens was to Flash quali in first? Did they expected it or were amazed? Or did they blame Snow?
Thank you once again

Perhaps it exists and I haven’t seen it, but man what I wouldn’t give for guys like Flash and other top pros breaking down a series or a set in real detail on stream.
Happy birthday oh drone of the flying variety!

gosh , flash is such a genius

He needs to write StarCraft Bible when he retires. But hell no, I wanna see him squashing noobs even when he hits 40.

well, i guess losing to effort doesnt even bother him, thats not a challenge, the last time they faced flash didnt even show much passion about it and moments later he retired for a year bc of arm issues. the real challenge was the best zerg in the world (jaedong) and flash surpassed that one. effort is just some unimportant homework to do.

Are there any infos on the military service for flash? He is getting to the age that he can't postpone it further. Or is he somehow excepted?

Playing random he’s got the initial information advantage, a 1/3 chance of rolling GOAT Terran and a 1/3 chance rolling his Toss which is pretty damn good especially with the initial random advantage.
Does leave him an ungodly amount of prep to do for all the various scenarios he can potentially get. If he’s a real God he’d play his weakest race straight up and we’ll see how good he is then!
Joking aside it’s pretty crazy what he’s doing, possibly unparalleled in eSports that I can think of anyway.
Taking a step back and something I feel has been not mentioned enough in assessing Flash playing random and how impressive it is, is matchups while playing one race.
Even amongst the best of the best in BW a lot of players have weak matchups, sometimes to a comic degree. Which I think frames the difficulty of Flash’s quest and the progress made thus far in an even greater light.
|
I have no idea what he's talking about on the vs free game and how and why Y follows after X, but I am stupid and flash is not. He's the universe brain, the one that is omniscient, we all want to be like him, that's enough.

I think he meant macro. ie, Free had to focus on solely producing units and fighting, while Flash was able to tech up during that time.

what is more impressive? win as random or as Zerg / protoss?

Given how many zergs keep getting deep into the ASL I'd say winning as zerg doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore. Winning as protoss seems to be the hardest these days.

Maybe Fatality, an FPS player who achieved great results in many different games, which is kinda like playing different races in BW. The competition was not as fierce back then though.

reminds of me of Gareth Bale, switching positions and still doing well

G1 was great to watch but G2 snow opening had me going "goddayumm this guys gets it" repeatedly for the first few minutes. What a fucking smart way to set the pace and kill a lot of momentum flash gets for being random. Not to mention coming to that conclusion after the way G1 went. So smart. G2 of that series and then ofc the snow vs free game were great, and pvp is my least favorite mirror

Yeah Jiexian and nojok, two good shouts there!
I guess Wendell/Fatality existed in a different era of eSports (not temporally, but in terms of maturation in the West), but yeah he’s a legendary figure.
Not so familiar with fighting games, but will investigate further.
I guess what makes Flash so impressive to me is that BW is so figured out and the level is so high and even then most of his peers can’t master their race to an equivalent level across 3 matchups, indeed many have an outright clear weak matchup.

Obviously random is easier as he can still roll T. He’d have to prepare for more MUs, but the same is true for his opponent. Random games also tend to be less straightforward, giving the inferior player (Flash) a better chance.

I worry that if Flash main-ed as Protoss, he'd win everything and make all other Protoss players feel stupid for struggling as hard as they do. I wonder if this is what Terran's feel like right now?
|
Honestly, his protoss is like top amateur level so I think he could qualify for ASL with it but I don't think he would get much further than that.

He has medical exemption. Search for the gigantic scar on his arm from surgery he had 10 or so years ago due to his injuries.

It is opposite. Everyone thinks terran is easy and OP because Flash makes it look easy, while in reality we are losing all the time and complain about terran being to hard. ;-)

Yeah, the way he kept running forward with a few goons in the open, with no vision of snow's army, almost losing them one by one was hard to watch. I get that he wanted to scout where snow's army is and the number of his goons, but that's an easy way to lose all your goons. At best, you can run them forward a bit, and then back to get the trailing fog of war vision to see any incoming units.
I haven't seen many games where he plays protoss, so it's probably too early to judge about his level, but that one thing is kinda basic.

I think the true value in this translation is in revealing just how little our commentators know about what is actually going on.

Yeah but that's true in almost any sport and any commentator.
There are very few exceptions (ex: Tony Romo and American Football), so much so that when it does happen, fans truly take notice.

Of course random is more impressive. It's not even close.

But when you random, a third of the time you get to play Terran. When you choose Protoss, you never get to play Terran.
