Dreaming of becoming the next (T)TY?

AfreecaTV has announced that it will host the "Star School Tournament" (SST), an amateur student league in order to expand the Starcraft esports ecosystem.

The SST is an amateur competition for students who love Starcraft, and anyone over the age of 12 can participate. It is expected that talented players who will lead the future of esports will appear in this competition, like Jeon Tae-yang (TY), who played in various student leagues at a young age and continues to be participating in esports despite debuting over 13 years ago.

The tournament's online qualifier will be held in a best-of-three, single elimination tournament format. Through this online qualifier, four players will advance to the semi-final stage where on August 16th, they will play out the rest of the tournament offline. Online registration will be open via the AfreecaTV ASL homepage from 29th July to August 5th.

The total prize pool for this tournament is 4,000,000 KRW (~$4000 USD) - 2,000,000 KRW to the winning player, 1,000,000 KRW for the runner-up and 500,000 KRW for 3rd/4th place.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, audiences will remain barred from spectating in the studio for the safety of staff and players.

ASTL gives top amateurs a chance for practice with the top players, offline matches.
ACS the first step for them.

Hopefully this is successful. Afreeca are helping/building the BW ecosystem, imo they're doing it well.

Maybe we'll even have a retirement league in 20-30 years.

That's cool. The korean scene needs something like this! We see young generations in Eu and Na, but Kr survives mainly because of old legends

I LOVE this. It would be awesome for there to be concrete motivation for youngsters in Korea to play BW instead of the usual Leagues and PUBGs. Really great news, hope this thrives.

Wow this doesn't seem like big news but it's one of the best news in a long time! Getting new blood to the scene is so important to keep it going. Hopefully this will suay some young people from LoL to BW.

Long live BW!

It also helps that they have alot of incentive to do so, from what I see BW is very popular on Afreecatv (gaming section) and usually in the top 3 games watched.

The lag and low TR from many South American players make it pretty annoying to play for everyone else for it to be fair.

2 of the players are from snow's recently established Postiz team (Fleta P and Sayaku Z both 19), Desperado Z is still in middle school so only 16? some promising young players there.

I was afraid of the map pool it's good to have staples but both CB and FS would have perhaps leave some sour aftertaste. However, in the end the way it played out was great.
