I dont wanna get fonger's hopes up thats all!!

me and sky went into this with hugeeee aspirations and dreams
and we fell flat on our faces (almost literally)

fonger has these dreams, and good on him for having them! but if he goes into this the same way we did, then he'll end up disappointed like we did

that being said fonger, ill lend you a hand in anyway i can; i want to believe this can work... but as eras said- its been tried and failed so many times before...
if you are really serious; ask yourself this question; what make this time any different? why will it work this time? come back with some solid responses and you can make this work

You having failed many times is no reason for me not to even try

Goodluck, i doubt there will be any exceptional circumstances (which we had) which would propel interest

I don't require exceptional circumstances to make this happen. All I need is a bunch of players who are interested and committed (several of whom I already have). You're overestimating the relevance of your own experience.

To find a dedicated group of full-time nz gamers is bloody hard,
skill base is also a concern; i doubt there a (m)any B-teams we could beat

Do I need to repeat myself? Skill base is not a concern. I don't give a shit how many B teams we can't beat; I only care that we have the opportunity to play them.

we recently lost our one strong player because he felt that NZ wasn't paying well wnough,

Could you be more specific? Is that ears or skyglow?
if you think about it the answer is obvious...

Your comments to date would seem to indicate that you have no interest in providing any kind of constructive criticism, but I'd ask that you at least have the fucking courtesy to make yourself clear to someone who doesn't have your wealth of experience to draw on. Apparently there's some glaring difference in skill between eras and skyglow that I'm not aware of; care to enlighten me?

goodlove (our resident gosu korean) scarcely plays anymore, rookie is terrible pvz and pvp, sky is inactive, im inactive even, gag[sharky] is inactive, eunji is around i guess.. last i heard he was on seige; but he was flawed- in his conduct at the very least

I'm interested in starting a New Zealand team, not a gosu-Koreans-who-happen-to-live-here team. The skill level of Kiwi players doesn't concern me. Their interest, activity and commitment does. You give me a list of apparently decent players who don't play any more, but I have a list of active, enthusiastic players who'd love to give this their best shot.
So because a korean lives in NZ, with NZ citizenship it makes them not-applicable for the team?

Where did I say that, and what right would I have to say it? My comment was intended to convey the idea that I'm looking for commitment and enthusiasm rather than pure skill.

Goodlove, rookie, beautifulgame are 3 koreans with decentish skill and im sure there are more...
the latter two being semi-active at times
In observing the last team, there were real commitment issues.
eRaS did not particpate
Goodlove did not participate
eun_ji did not participate
Lang was unrealiable, he showed up and was a force but never showed for games
GAG is a one trick pony
Rookie was a one trick pony
Sky was a one trick pony (didnt see his tvt though)
R_I's forte was tvp, but tvz/tvt were decent
fortissimo moved to italy
beaut has commitment issues because he plays at work (internet cafe)
Nexies was almost impossible to track down

I don't know half these names, and "one trick pony" is hardly a reason to exclude someone from a team, especially if they haven't even applied

80% of the people in NZL-1 are ums
5% BGH
10% FPM
5% Low-moeny

I'm aware of that. You'd probably find similar statistics in any default channel.

all our traditional sources of strength have gone, trust me..
we dont have the strength/numbers to have a national team

We'll see.
Your also asking at a particularly bad time; semester 1 is drawing to a close rapidly and hence mass exams are on, also many highschools have midyears etc
didcated players around this time are scarce at best

Nice to see some productive input, but I don't think this is too important. People with time constraints won't be excluded by default, and I don't plan on making this 2-3 month fad that'll fizzle out after exams are done. There'll be time for everyone to play.

I suggest if you are really serious about this that you assemble 5 reliable players (lol goodluck) and get some games going; in ASEAN we won 1 set (thanks RI!!), dont over estimate our skills, we are very much a weak nation. Goodluck regardless

We have a shallow player-base compared to other nations, yes, and our top players are relatively weak. I don't overestimate our skill, but I don't feel that an inferiority complex is going to serve us well in competition either. We'll just do our best and see what happens.

I'm still a little drunk right now, so I may not have come off as offensive as I'd have liked to. I'll see what I can do tomorrow morning

Hehe you're grossly overesitmating my skill fonger. I got raped by eras the last time I played him, and since I haven't been playing I'll be even more useless now. Again you're gonna have to be very organized and think carefully about the times of any matches or events if this is gonna work. Even forming a group that plays regularly and together would be a challenge I think, although this itself would be quite nice. Maybe start off with getting everyone to play at the same time that you set like on a sunday every week or something, then if you can keep that going good progress onto setting up a team and matches.

We need to concentrate on learning from mistakes. In the past what we've tried to do is gather up as many people as possible in 1 go, and it worked for maybe a couple weeks but fizzled out extremely quickly as people drifted further and further away in terms of communication and they lost interest because of the lack of activity, which caused more people to lose interest too. Start slow and work your way up. I'd be happy to play sometimes in a group that gathers some time every week and trains together. If you can't even get something like that going, then you're unlikely to get a nation team going and the idea of playing as a group of NZers isn't gonna work.

Furthermore you might want to think of the upcoming possible release of SC2 etc. Make sure you plan this well and think it out or else it will be a waste of time like in the past.

Thanks Plexa, that helped put some things in perspective I was actually following the team during the period you mentioned, rooting for you guys in ASEAN ;D For me it wasn't about winning, there was just something cool about seeing a Kiwi team play against other countries.

Hehe you're grossly overesitmating my skill fonger.

Who cares, you have 300apm :D Seriously though, I couldn't tell the difference between you last we played. The fact that you were both so far above me in any case may have had something to do with it :p

I'd be happy to play sometimes in a group that gathers some time every week and trains together.

Let's get some contact info together then. Do you have MSN or any equivalent?

Yeah the idea of a NZ community and a team appeals far more to than a team that hasn't got team spirit but is able to win games. My msn is skyglow1@hotmail.com.

Unfortunately Plexa knows very well the situation in New Zealand.
He's just trying to point out the difficulties, thats all... and he's always been very big on the idea of a New Zealand team - even though I tried to persuade him otherwise.

I seem to have an unnecessarily sharp tongue these days. It just seems like the idea shouldnt be "dismissed" so quickly.

One thing, from my own observations, that I think any new team should do is get in the habit of practicing with each other before trying to set up matches. It builds up the team a little bit, shows who is good at what, and gets people in the habit of playing together at times good for them. After doing that a few times, then go out and look for a match. I think the results and longevity of the team would be much better.

On the subject of msn as well, the first real important thing is to establish good communication between everyone. We can either do this by adding everyones msn to each other etc, or by always posting on the team aus boards. I think in the long term using msn isn't gonna work cause you cant reach enough people easily, so you should get into the habbit of using the team aus forums.
