With a lot of people switching to SC 2, while he remained with BW, I'm sure he's high up there by default, just as non Koreans are within their respective scene who stuck with BW. But, when he was "just another Korean," he was still the favorite vs any non Korean.

Huh? What's this regional based league shit blizzard's aiming for? How come we're not talking about that??

To prevent korean players rape local heroes again and again and again. Whiteguy players can't get sponsors and income when they crushed by korean every month. No local player,no audience,no money. Looks like Blizzard try to avoid the mistake on SC2 events, that's a good news.regional based leagues are absolutely important to promotions outside of korea.

I agree. Region lock is the probably the main reason that allowed LoL esports to become so big in the rest of the world.
SC2 needed something like that since day1

If I recall at the very beginning of SC2 it kinda was. I remember Idra/Huk winning MLG's, players like Nony/Painuser making top 8 (Incontrol as well). That went away once Koreans started participating, but at first Koreans did not participate.

People wanted Koreans to compete at first. As time went on it changed.

I think it'd be awesome if there was a foreigner BW league, sounds like a lot of fun!

At the same time though SC2 was a new game.
I mean remember the upset in the TSL When MC was defeated? As much as I enjoy a good underdog story there wont be any foreigner who ever takes a game off Flash or anyone like that. Out of all the WCG's and foreign games the only real upset i can remember is A2 beating Jaedong in WCG(recently, im aware of the PJ/Savior games though)

Depends on how far back you want to go
I can't find anything about advocate beating jaedong though. at least not in WCG.

but there's really almost no foreigners beating koreans.
Obviously you mentioned PJ beating savior in '07
Advocate beat silent_control in '05 (maybe that's what you meant?)
Hellghost beat H.O.T-Forever in '03
Grrrr... beat Control in '03
blackman beat Essay in '02
ElkY beat GoRush in '01 (twice - first round WB and Loser's final)
NTT beat Bassy in '00

Seems to me like the later you check, it gets more unlikely to see a foreigner even taking a game off a Korean.

Could be wrong but I think it was a game on Tau Cross in WCG.

edit: maybe he meant this?

Yes that was the game i was talking about. Obviously this, and PJ's victory over Savior are the rare cases of major pros falling to non koreans(though the chinese are?/were very close at anyrate)

In this day and age i dont think we'll see a miracle such as i dunno, Sziky or something beating Flash in a bo3. or even winning probably more than 1 out of 100+ games

Having gone to Overwatch and a couple other scenes at the top they still treat korean practice like its some mythical shit. Not obtainable but thats disrespectful across the board, they did it with the exact same shit any excuse we put up is gonna just hinder us. If we fall into that trap again it'll be the same thing. Its important that we don't put KR practice on a unreachable pedestal, it should be on the ground floor and accepted. Promote the joys of learning and not the difficulty of starcraft and respect not glorify whom we learn from.

No one gives up. We don't even try because there is no way to compete with genius level talent + 10 hours of independent training.

Why are white people so obsessed of having a non-korean being competitive/being the winner? Can't handle that? Just embrace korean supremacy dude like we all did 15 years ago

Yeah I think Leg was the last of the foreign players who went over to Korea who could actually compete with and beat them.

After then it got to a point where foreign players had no hope.

Top foreigners have always been able to take games from top Koreans, no matter how frequent or infrequent. The important thing is that they can't win sets and BoX. Being consistently good is a skill in and of itself.

However, I personally can see somebody challenging Koreans in skill IF and ONLY IF they end up making their living off of BW. I don't think it's possible to do it as a side-thing, unless they are more talented than Flash somehow lol. Maybe they can go the Larva route, and, being already extremely talented at the game, become an entertainer primarily to build up a base of followers and once that is set and can support you, start grinding hardcore.

Anyways, I don't want to derail this thread any further.

So much this...

I think, it comes down to the reason you're watching to begin with. Real life sports have a lot of casual viewers who just get irrationally attached to a team / their home team and cheer for them no matter what. But they don't necessarily care about who the top teams in the world are, or watching them play each other. Because they don't fundamentally love the game. We saw a very similar thing in SC2 when at its peak (incidentally also a time with a lot more foreigner hope and players like HuK and Stephano actually able to win tournaments over a few mid-tier Koreans) compared to 2012-2013 when that started to diminish and you'd see 10+ strong GSL players in every MLG and every DreamHack. A lot of people quit, because they weren't watching out of a strong passion for the game, but more so for the "storylines" ™®, drama, home team bias etc.
mfw people who never followed BW speak about sAviOr as if they know anything... -___-''''

koreans are in no way superior ^^ lol
u can see if a korean in sc2 came to europe or america as his skill doesnt went up like crazy anymore, its just the enviroment, if u can play in a lan settings offline vs a bunch of other pros fulltime with coach and all, then its just like having someone training with barcelona vs someone trainign at home on his soccer field, at the end even with more talent the guy trainign at barcelona will kick his ass so easy
and on top of that all u have the training mentality which in korea is so different as in the west here and it favors that kind of training.
because of this reason in the start of a game often foreigsn are sometimes even better but get quickly overrun by koreans just because as good as we might be and as clever the training will win in the end ... always

and to win vs a korean pro u just need no selfrespect as ieven i noob beat an A+ pro in clanwar with just fuckn 5pooling him twice xD

Agree, for example, when http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Pj and http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Lx back to China from SKT1, they ruled all the touraments. Same as http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Draco from Team OGN, where the pro system works, produces star players continuously.
