+ Show Spoiler + A while back, I had a slight misunderstanding with the Brood War community. I was trying to criticize two specific groups of BW streamers – those who had been convicted of matchfixing, and those who had become a “stream monkey” ready to humiliate themselves and others nonstop just for the cash grab – but my words were quoted out of context; people thought I was looking down on all BW streamers, something I have never done. I tried to clear it up back then, but I know a lot of people, including some ex-BW pros, didn’t receive the memo. I hope I can clear it up for good this time during my first few weeks on Afreeca."

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/starcraft-2/517030-the-last-hierarch-stork-on-spl-and-bw-return I'm very much looking forward to seeing him stream, Stork always did extremely well despite not being a mechanical monster like the rest of TBLS, so it'll be nice to see how he plays from a first person view. A lot of people already explained this, but Stork was really complaining about two things on Afreeca and I believe for good reason. For one it was that matchfixers like Savior were streaming and making money instead of being shunned by the platform and community. The other was for people like Terror inspiring really stupid antics and kind of 'ruining' the professionalized image of progamers, which of course damaged ongoing Pro-gaming which Stork was still a part of. + Show Spoiler [ASL Day3] + Storks play looked solid, but PvZ is still going to give him the most trouble, we'll see how lucky he gets with the brackets.

He's looking solid, decision making is still good, but he was kinda slopping in the Rush game with carriers. 6.5/10 Rush made the obvius response -in this case poor- judgement with the rush, which failed due to Stork anticipated and prepared for it to such extent, while cutting porbes and rushing for goons he even made a pylon in Rush`s nat, so the probes would exactly intercept the incoming rag-tag army of terrans. I guess, Rush`s risktaking was due to he didn`t wanted to play from behind the whole game (who wants to?). I was suprised that he didn`t gg-d out though after this, and carried on actually pretty well, despite Stork now insourmantable lead. After the game he must have thought, that if he just let Stork get away with the fe, he would have crushed him later on. Watching the game I had this feeling wandering around in my head.

It's like saying speed isn't important in football, because slow players such as Riquelme are able to have great success. Being able to play the game at high speed, is a quality that isn't essential to win the game, but is an asset that simply cannot be ignored. Of course, protoss players can get away with having lower eapm than the other two races, but for terran and zerg players, having a high eapm is a super positive quality. FanTaSy succeeded despite having mediocre speed of play, but even he was unable to overcome it fully, as evidenced by his lack of success with pure bionic play (which is the most mechanically intensive terran style of play). Of course, necessity is the mother of invention, and FanTaSy overcame his deficiency against the zerg race by developing the meta-game of the match-up, but imagine he had the bionic capabilities of someone like Light in his prime, and had the strategical aspect added on top of that.

It's not a perfect measurement, of course, but it's not useless statistic like you seem to suggest. Is there a player with an eAPM over 200 (out of any professional players, or current streaming ex-professionals) you consider to be slow in terms of carrying out their actions?

+ Show Spoiler + I also think that's the reason Protoss players tend to have less APM in general. Another example is with zerg play: lurker/defiler play tends to be around 350 even with the fastest players, while aggressive muta play goes up to 450+

For the past two days Stork has been almost non-stop streaming his quest for ladder #1 on SCR playing some really entertaining games. As far as I've seen he's met Larva, effort, Last(?), ZJD and a number of amateurs with unusual tactics. It's a blast, I highly recommend it. edit well, he just paused

Yesterday and today he went on a ladder rampage breaking into top10 again. Currently sitting at #9. As far as I followed he had a winning streak of around 12-0 beating Boxer, PianO, Mini, skyhigh, Snow, the mysterious Fantasy handle among others. This was right after he lost 3 spons against Ssak and lost to Larva in a great ranked ladder match. (I'll try to find that VOD it's highly recommended.) In the afreeca chat he mentioned he's afraid of losing all his viewers if he continues to lose so often :D good motivation if you ask me.

After a horrible meltdown on ladder and easy spon losses to hero on the 29th of Aug., Tue Stork wrote, hovering around 2450, throwing matches away left and right like a paperboy in the morning that he doesn't mind the grind he's going to get back to 2700+ again, that is where he belongs. After a few more losses (going 1-8 or 1-10) not showing himself on cam anymore, he joked he might need a new id. I felt uneasy about what might come next. Enter Phoenix: Stork outlasts Rush and convincingly beats MisO, that's two spon wins in a day. Probably a record for Aug. Even better than the wins was the focus and composure that is missing on other days. I was glad to see that it didn't evaporate for the ladder rounds. Masterful early pressures and 2 clutch holds against hydra busts vZ; Carrier rushes and sick mid-game engagements vT (especially in a great win over Leta); and a run of about 12 wins (to 3 losses or so) means Stork is back above 2700 when he starts playing today. It's not all rosy, though. Here's the problem (not in my opinion but in Stork's words): The qualifier will be much harder. If it's hard to stay consistent against semi-pros and amateurs and yo-yos daily between top10 and 100 it will be especially hard coming weekends. The sloppy shuttle plays vP (it cost him a game against Snow) and weak defending vZ doesn't help. In the end, I'm very glad that I couldn't jinx his performance yesterday and hope to see this promising trend continue over the weekend.

FFO: Carrier Not recommended for: Terrans who hate to get wrecked by Carriers Just this week Stork's ladder results followed the pattern of 2-3 losses for each win. However, his tenacity has started to pay dividends. He was firmly in the top20, closing in on the 2800 MMR mark. Most matches were vT and it's a highly recommended watch for those who enjoy the Samsung style of playing Protoss, with oceans of storms and Carrier flanks, and maxed out lategame badassness. As far as I was able to follow notable players he beat included Snow, Mong, Free. He also played spons with Mong winning back-to-back. We can definitely say he ended the week on a high note and I would be pretty dumbfounded if this wouldn't be enough to qualify to the Ro 24 of ASL. But his weakness to early game T or Z pressure might make it hard to get back to the Ro8 where he appeared just 2 seasons ago.

Also while Flash just rolled hard as far as I am aware Stork was able to hide an expansion in both games. If he'd have had a bit of a breathing room it would have payed off. So I think the potential is there for him to be considered a dangerous presence again after all these years.

I know there was fighting because JangBi felt mistreated by his team, which wouldn't give him the highest pay and some other benefits despite beeing by far their best SC2 player, a lot better than Stork. Beeing mistreated by Samsung is why he eventually left iirc? Which is kinda sad because he was one of the only pros who seemed to like SC2, he even played it in his free time in like 2010/11 before the switch just for fun. Well ultimately I hope that that just means he will become great at BW again and we have the two Samsung Tosses back <3

Ladder log | 2017-09-01 Aside from playing at the inven fest he also streamed a bit. There's not much to post about as none of the matches were that noteworthy and most matches ended early- to mid-game. (Except [there's always an exception]: Is JDyeyo a handle for the JD? From Stork's comments it seemed like it is. Here's the match.) Just as much as losses were due to comical mistakes the wins were due to his superior execution. So what's going on there? He can't seem to escape this duality. An example of this was a back-to-back encounter against some T. First ranked match the T was not even close to defend the push and gg'd. Next he went for an early pressure again but then as the game went on he threw away his army for 7-10 waves against a defensive Terran and then lost out as the game went on. It seemed like he never had the right composition. Luck wasn't on his side either, as he didn't manage to play any mirror matches while his bracket is full with notable toss players. I don't think there's any need for me to theorycraft here any further as The Big Day dawns soon. GL HF!

Stork played an amazing 40 mins PvZ against Larva. Stuff didn't come easy. He let lings ravage his main right at the beginning, holding onto dear life by a few zealots. He even lost his only pylon powering his one gate. During mid game his pushes were constantly held and the affair seemed similar to how Larva's game against Rain played out on this map. Good scouting and DT and zealot harass kept Stork in the game however Larva always switched up his tech from hydra to muta to lings. Stork managed to hold everything with great storms, nice archon pick offs vs. air and good DT harass. In the end he managed to break Larva who had to gg after his last all in was held. I am not sure where fans can easily consume this since Korhal has been removed. But as great this game was I bet it will be available on Stork's official YT channel.

I would wait for Stork's video[0] though it's better since he wins. ^/^ [0] Here's the Afreeca VOD. Timestamp is 04:46:45: http://vod.afreecatv.com/PLAYER/STATION/27325062 Nothing on YT yet. EDIT: Just checked, after yesterday's sweep Stork's BJ ELO is at a personal all time high (still a meager number compared to the pro days but the improvement is there http://sponbbang.com/bj/elo_graph3.php?bj=송병구)

(If the URL doesn't work: http://korhal.info.pl/#/stork - 01-11-2017 - 2nd video - Starts from 14:47) Highly technical PvZ that contains some gems like Guardians, a Devourer, ensnare to defend against a DT, maelstroms and feedbacks against the defiler supported zerg ground army, which plagues and swarms the hole centrefield. One plague gets the whole group of corsairs. Ultralisks make an appearance too which in the end proves to be too much. It's all very wild, check it out!

Stork v Larva, super fight vol 65 These guys are just always cranking out ridiculously amazing games whenever they play each other. I guess we have to thank Larva for that as he basically produces high-quality games against anyone. That's not going to make this any less entertaining. Stork produces some ridiculously close holds against ling and hydra pushes than does some out-of-the world Zealot control that really got me all nostalgic. It all comes inevitably crashing down on Larva but then he just keeps grinding so it takes awhile and I'm thankful for that because it produces a rare, arresting dance of death. After watching now most of the old BW pros streaming and trying to put fanboyisms aside, I think Stork's POV if one of the most, if not the most satisfying to watch.

Stork v Hero spons The whole video has some good-to-great-to amazing pvz's but why I'm posting it especially are matches 2 and 3 where Stork tries to negate the quick third of the Zerg at another main's natural with cannons. Pretty interesting strat. and when it worked it was really effective.

A nice little short film (featuring Jiyu) about Stork's trip to the Busan qualifiers. Well produced, funny, and emotional. Five stars. He's also streaming quite a couple of great games but I'm tired to type about those.

Highly recommended series, especially the first match of the series which for me is one of the matches of the year so far. It seems like it might be for the taking by one and then the other, or another, or this other one - again - and this tug-of-war goes on for about 50 minutes. http://vod.afreecatv.com/PLAYER/STATION/31330528

Transistor - Gladiator - (if needed) Transistor I don't want to spoil a lot but to me this is the spon of the month: http://vod.afreecatv.com/PLAYER/STATION/31573295 The whole series consists of drawn out, total war matches full with suspense. PvZ can't get any better than this. + Show Spoiler + which obviously means protoss wins at the end

It seems that in PvT you just have to accept that you will lose your main, and try to work with that. I don't think you can realistically top pushes from Terrans in such a confined narrow passage.
PVJ
Hungary5214 Posts
Still seems pretty hard for Terran even if they can expand to the original Protoss base. The map is ripe for carriers to pick the terran army apart.

But yea if you just adapt to losing your Main and expand into the third world (Yikes), it is actually really decent for Protoss. This map certainly produces interesting, new kinds of games, it will be interesting to see how the meta further develops.

There are not many games I watch from both player's PoV but I can't wait to re-watch Soulkey's VOD on this. He played an amazing game! It's also rare to see Guardians, so that was some fun.

Stork is the only one with a positive winrate against Flash, going 9/7 as of today. To put things into perspective, Stork is the same age as Firebathero and debuted in the same year as July. Ygosu is exploding with Bangligans (started as a derogatory nickname for Stork fans: Bang + hooligan) praising Stork's explosive rise. Personally I think if Stork doesn't meet any strong Zergs, he is totally capable of reaching top 4 in the ASL.

Yeah, I was noticing a very definitive rise in new sponsors (fan club members) in the past week, two weeks maybe, donating. He must use his commander strategies in the group selection to make sure he has a comfortable group and then I think it's definitely doable from there!

There's no YouTube VOD but also very revealing and rewarding if you have the time and patience is to watch how hard Protoss has to dig to find suitable strategies vZ on the 3rd world. It's not easy at all! But finding something viable is besides the point why I find these matches so special. It's more about the process how a player has to cycle through proxy 2 gates, 2 stars to mass reaver to templar tech only to clutch 2 base speed timings and give it all on each attempt having to thread on this line between what's possible and what can be possible on that other side. Stork played on March 30 15 matches against Larva, and it's wonderful to see how he goes from 1-2, 1-2 (with Gladi and Transi in play) http://vod.afreecatv.com/PLAYER/STATION/32106533 to 2-1, 1-2, 2-1 (3rd world only). http://vod.afreecatv.com/PLAYER/STATION/32109571

Yeah, I also realized that watching some games when Flash has really been cornered. He switches all his attention to unit production and aggresion, contrary to his "normal" game when he is in the lead. His usual style is to macro up quickly taking bases like crazy, build up a superior macro engine behind and slowly but surely pressure the opponent to break. When he is really behind, he takes what he has and becomes a wild animal, and with his superior mechanics it's so amazing to watch how he can constantly fight with such precision.

I have not, however, had the chance to watch his streams of late. How has his performance level been? What sorts of strategies has he employed? How has he looked across the different matchups? Goes without saying that his KSL group does not afford him any breathing room. However, getting to miss Jaedong (his worst matchup) in the first round of matches aids his circumstance. He did look very strong in game 2 of his qualification final against quite a solid Terran player.
